AO- Go away.  If NW makes the playoffs (due to playing a weaker schedule than Melrose) you will get a chance to see how far away from any level of D3 success your club truly is.

Take it easy on the Dutchmen!

Just because Mrs. 105 is a Dutchman doesn't mean you have to defend them  :D  I would never defend the BBE Jaguars because they are horrible :o

Yea Duff, every year when the roster comes out and she reviews it she trys to figure out who the parents of the Melrose kids are...."did I go to high school with Noel Meyer's mom?"  :D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Watch me get this wrong, but in my defense I was a Methodist when I attended SJU and only became a Catholic three years ago.  And if I get it wrong, it's the surest way to get someone to say what is right (so in that respect I'm still doing a good service).

A 'Father' (Fr) is a priest, ordained to hold mass and lead the flock.

A 'Brother' (Br) is a monk, qualified to do lots of other important monk stuff (for instance scholarship) that doesn't include holding mass.

Can I keep my membership card?

Not bad but a little off.

A Father is indeed a priest.  A priest is someone who is ordained (receives the sacrament of holy orders) with the power to administer other sacraments, the two most noteworthy being the eucharist ('saying Mass') and confession/reconciliation (i.e., forgivng sins).  They also can do other things, including teaching

A Brother is not ordained and is not able to say Mass or hear confessions. (Note: one does not have to be a priest to administer all of the sacraments, which is another story, but the eucharist and confesion/reconciliation do require an ordained priest).  Historically brothers were often less educated than the priests and often focused more on tasks involving physical labor.  That has been less of a difference more recently and obviously was not a point of distinction with Br. Dietrich.

A monk can be either a priest or a brother but is someone who joins a religious community whose religious life and works (at least historically) center on, but are not necessarily limited to, a cloistered environment (a monastary) where prayer is the primary focus of their daily lives.  There are degrees of cloistered life, some more cloistered than others, but the members of these communities can all be called monks.  Benedictines are communities of monks.  There are other religious communities that do not center on a cloistered life; the Jesuits are an example.

+K for using the term "cloister" four times in one paragraph!

A tradition unrivaled...

Dear Bennie,  If you would rather talk about hockey, I'm sure there are many options available to you.  This is D3 football in 2008 where St. Thomas has beaten Concordia on the road and the Cobbs have beaten your team at home.

This is also the MIAC board. I'm sure theres lively conversation to be had on the UMAC board.  ;)
Where did I mention the UMAC in that post?

Melrose Sucks.  not nearly as bad as Long Prairie, though.  They dropped down to 2A, and switched to the WCC south to avoid Melrose and Albany and they still get whooped every game.  The only high school football I'm watching is my cousin at Wayzata.  Eden Prairie's days are numbered...

My eyes must be deceiving me, but I am almost positive that you are talking high school football on the MIAC D3 college board! If you are not talking about specific MIAC recruits, is that anymore appropriate than hockey? You might want to look into moving out of your glass house. :P

I'm simply pointing out that if you're going to rag on others for not being topic specific to the board they're posting on, then your posts about northwestern being playoff worthy belong on the UMAC board.

I was talking about the Tommies, not the royals or the johnnies.  Bennie was a little confused about Northwestern's history, so I answered her question.

AO, you seem the more confused, you want to dictate the parameters of this board and then continually deviate from them.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

Now be fair - we're only in week 8 of the season, and the UMAC board already has FIVE posts since the season began! ;D

(And ONE of them is even by AO. ;))
