Dusty,

Your prediction a few months ago that Sid wasn't long from checking in to the Shalom Home seems to be coming true.

Yesterday on the radio he referred to Gus Frerotte as Gus Favre.

Wow. Looks like what everyone on the radio was saying, Tommies were indeed screwed.

As tough as it is to give USTD credit, their paper did a nice video recap.

I've gotta say, nice job Tommie staff on that report. And yeah, it definitely looked like he scored. Anyone remember what happened in the 1994 Johnnie-Tommie game? Didn't that end in really controversial fashion as well; maybe a Johnnie player stepped out of bounds but it wasn't called and they scored on the play? I think Ramler had just taken over as QB.
I do remember that game, as I played in it, still have a pin in my thumb from it, and have the game ball on my mantle in my Johnnie Cave (not because I was awarded it, but because I grabbed it after the game; UST people even came into our lockroom looking for it!).  It was Ramler's 1st start as it was the game after we were upset my Hamline.  Late in the game, St. Thomas' TE Ryan Davis made a catch and was ruled down on the 1.  I have the MSC tape from the game , and on film I am 99.9% sure he gets in.  However, in a classic Scanlon move, the Tommies elect to kick a field goal on either 2nd or 3rd down, it gets blocked by Brian Deters.
The play you are talking about happened the drive before when Matt Malmberg looks (does) to step out at about the 3 on a sweep play for the go ahead and eventual winning touchdown.  My dad always has told me that the "skip pass" against Albion was karma from those two huge blown calls.
Overlooked in all the "iffy" calls was the fact that the D had about 50 sacks that game including on with about a minute to go that forced a fumble to seal it.

I just looked at the photo sequence on d3football.com (amazing how Ryan gets two different perspectives on the same play :D).  The only possible basis I can see for the refs calling the ball down short of the goal line is if they thought (for some reason not apparent in the pictures - and which seems to be disproved in the Aquin video) that the runner's knee was down before the ball crossed the goal.  As plainly visible as the ball seems to be in the pictures, while being held over the goal line, surely that was not missed?

Still waiting for the review of the game from Vegas ...  ;)

Under the category of shamelessly beating a dead horse, another possibility is the ball was loose while crossing the goal line, knee went down and ball subsequently securred.  Would that be ruled a TD or would the ball be moved back to the spot prior to the goal line where it was still secure?  Does it look like the video rules out this possibility?

Vegas doesn't care one way of the other because TD or not, the Tommies still beat Buckman's spread. :D

CornHorn...my comments were not that I expected those clubs to vault past the Cobblers, but rather they are the only teams that have players that have played in a playoff game or two.  Like it or not, the playoffs are a different beast altogether.  If you think a team without playoff experience, exceptional speed and the forward pass can go into the playoffs and make a run; enjoy November.  It will be enlightening.

Concordia made the national tournament in 2004 and 2005. You can say you don't respect their speed or scheme, but questioning their postseason experience seems a little silly.

CC's #2 QB in 2005?  A freshman named Jesse Nelson.

CC's #2 RB (by a poofteenth of an inch) in 2005?  A freshman named Cory Johnson.

The Cobbers are the MIAC's best shot at playoff glory, I figure.  Second round if they make it.  Maybe third.

Cory Johnson was started the first week of the season his freshmen year.  He has the most playoff experience of all the cobbers.  However, I hope they aren't looking any further than Hamline this weekend in St. Paul.

Amen CNation.  I will say that even halfway around the world I continue to be surprised by this MIAC table each and every week.  As I said last week, UST had a shot.. and clearly from the video footage.. don't know what to say, but yes Johnnie faithful, it does come down to 4 chances on the 1 yard line. Fine.  Anyhow, hats off to my beloved Cobbers for a well fought victory in Minneapolis, if they take it one week at a time.. who knows what can happen.

Soli Deo Gloria

Great win for the J's even though the win just fell out of STU's lap.  If we could just get the Cobblers to lose 2 more and Bethel to lose one and if we could just win out, we should at least get one home game as conference champs.  As conference champs and even with 2 losses, we'd still get at least one home game, right?

I guess weirder things have happened.  Like the last 60 seconds of the SJU-UST game.
