I know I said I wouldn't post any more AFL updates this season, and technically I'm not.  It's currently half-time of the first International Rules test, being played in Perth, between Australia and Ireland.  The Aussie lead by a point, but the game is a drag.  This saccharin spectacle has been has been watered down until it looks like a bunch of Liberace's dancing around the pitch.

Much more fun to watch is this highlight from the last International Rules match in 2006 when Ireland said they would never play again due to Australian 'tuggery'.  A pack of whining nancy Irish.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Yes, the refs blew that call, but unless it is corrected before the clock expires, it has no impact on the game, beyond serving as a revenge motivator next year. An apology is nice (although a public apology would be better), but other than a feel-good gesture, what good does it do in terms of the outcome and the standings? Zip. Nada. I agree with TMert that it is a moot issue.

But did that call "cost" UST the game? The numerous failed drives between the first quarter TD and the fumble probably did far more damage to the Toms chances of winning. There really is no excuse for the game ending up as close as it did. Give the ball to Wartman more, throw a few short (3-6 yard) completions and build a sustained drive (if BU and Cord can do it vs SJU's defense, I'd say UST can, too) instead of throwing 12-20 yards and incomplete far too often.

UST, like everyone in the chase, needs to win out. they need a little help in the form of Cord & SJU losses, to get the autobid. Looking at the schedules, Id say the title is Concordia's to lose and I doubt the Cobbers will cough it up. I don't envision a scenario where the MIAC gets a Pool C, but it is more likely than the UMAC getting a Pool B.

Re sustained drives on the SJU defense, I'll have to check but I think of the games mentioned only Bethel had a sustained drive that resulted in a touchdown.  The Cobbers' TD, the first Bethel TD and the UST TD all came on short fields following interceptions.  I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken.

TM,

The cobbers had quite the drive for their TD against the Johnnies.

So I recently received the Basilica, the magazine of the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, fall edition. As I am paging through the mag, I come across the recent events section. Whose picture do I see? Ryan Hoag, who is dressed as St. Peter for the Masqueray Ball. He was standing next to some good looking gal.

For all the comments that "UST should have taken care of the ball and stop whining," the same principle principle applies. Turnovers are suicide.

And CC's 13 play, 85-yd drive came after forcing a Johnnie punt.

Ole Fans;  Anybody know if Manitou Field will be a mud bowl come Saturday?

No, Meidt is gone  ;)

Yes, but his father is still there!   ;)

Can I get everyone's advice?  should I go with the angry response (option A) or the sarcastic response (option B)?

A.)
Suppose the Johnnies didn't play a sh*tty game that day.  Suppose they won. Suppose they made the playoffs.  Now think about what would have happened had they played Linfield.  You should be writing the Oles a friggin thank you note for beating SJU that year.  That loss prevented them from embarrassing themselves in the playoffs.

B.)
They most remarkable thing about that rain game though? That somehow, someway, the Oles played in it too, and did not get psyched out by the weather.  The nice thing about the rain is that it gave the Johnnies an excuse for losing! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY despite the fact that SJU lost they were still the better team because it had been raining in Northfield for over a day!  I'm glad that we could finally get all of that out in the open.  I for one think that the four years of post patterns group therapy has been VERY helpful.

So which one should I use?

Proof Positive:  When the Johnnies play well they win and most of the time when they play poorly they win too.   :-*

This morning on the news, Wisconsin was listed as one of the states in recession. Minnesota was not. So........I'm thinking a little MIAC care package should be started for me, BDB, and retagent. Money would probably be easier to send than supplies. Who wants to get that organized?

It's true. and it really gets annoying...

You forgot to point out that sometimes, when the johnnies are about to go down by three with 19 seconds left the johnnies win because the refs decided that they don't like the fact that they picked up an std from a tommie girl the night before, and make a judgment call in the J's favor.

Well, it'd prolly be Saturday night and in this case would demonstrate a clear bias against the Tommie women.

Send me your bank account and routing number and I might be able to direct deposit some funds in your account. ;)

In the meantime, you might want to consider getting a 11x17 piece of cardboard and a Sharpie.  Write "Need money to move to Minnesota" on it and go stand with the sign at the nearest freeway entrance.

I see on the KFAN website that Dubay has been removed as an on air talent.

What used to be the "PA & Dubay Show" page just shows Paul Allen.

It's a great gig if you don't get busted with crack on a suspended license.  :P

Johnnie Red

To all our friends in Cobberland, i.e., the Redneck part of Minnesota.

How do you know when you're staying in a Redneck motel?
When you call the front desk and say, I gotta leak in my sink, and the clerk replies, `Go ahead.'

Did you hear that they have raised the minimum drinking age for Rednecks to 32?
It seems they want to keep alcohol out of the high schools.

Two reasons why it's so hard to solve a Redneck murder: 1) the DNA is all the same and 2) there are no dental records.

Who invented the toothbrush? A Redneck. If it had been invented by anyone else, it would have been called a teethbrush.

Did you hear about the $3 million Redneck lottery? The winner gets $3.00 a year for a million years.

A new Redneck law was just recently passed. When a couple gets divorced, they are STILL cousins.

Did you hear that the Redneck governor's mansion burned down?
'Yep. Prit'near took out the whole trailer park. The library was a total loss too. Both books went poof... up in flames and the governor hadn't even finished coloring one of them.'

BDB- when did this happen? I stopped listening to KFAN because they always talk about the Vikings. Go figure, flagship station and they always have Vikings talk  ;)

P.S. The Common Man has a great gig.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
