If Matt Penz (or Kofoed) were still in MIAC play, their team would not have lost a game, or have been within 20 points of their opponent in MIAC games.

Both offensive lines appeared to me to do acceptable jobs considering the defenses they had to play against.  Neither QB made plays when the opportunity was presented.   I do not think either team makes a lot of improvment for next year unless they find other players to play the QB position.  I look forward to seeing both the Auggies and Knights quarterbacks in the coming weeks.

On a less controversial subject, the new science building looks awesome.

Among the mud-slinging of the past few days, there has been one point that has pertinence (haven't used that word in about 10 years).   That is, how to give the "other 100 players" some visibility for both the coaches and fans.

What would be wrong with this idea?  Have an intersquad game the Saturday before the season starts, using just the "other 100".  Divide them into two teams and let them play a full contact 60 minute game.  Allow free admission but sell the normal food and other stuff.   This goes a bit against John's approach to practices but it would be fun and also give the new kids a chance to show what they can do in a competitive situation.

What about play a JV game? The MIAC has rules set up for JV games.
All this talk of Kofoed, I would hope that any qb that has started for 2, 3 or 4 years would do a better job than a first year starter and that is pretty much what SJU has this year.
Who knows about recruiting, but I bet some kids just want to knock the champ off, whether it is SJU or Mount or UWW, so let's go to the other school and be the hero.
How about some perverse logic, maybe this is all good, maybe there are a couple of stud h.s. players who now say I can go to SJU, start and be the hero by bringing a championship back to SJU. Maybe...........

That won't happen as long as John is around.

Duff, do you know what John's "thing" is with playing JV games?  Is it the extra burden on the coaches?  Does he think it gives opponents another chance to "scout" SJU?  Seems to me there would be clear benefits, especially during seasons like this when non-starters aren't getting a lot of playing time in the varsity games.

I'm not exactly sure.  I think a lot of it has to do with the extra time it would cost the coaching staff and the potential for injuries.  Don't quote me on that, though.

My guess would be time and cost.

Is the Official Bandwagon still carrying Concordia?  I think they will win out.

I'm not even going to get into my use of a verb (assault) and an image (collective ivory tower) and an adjective (inane) to describe the response of some SJU faithful's reaction to points that go against the usual SJU conventional wisdom  -- it's ok, never change anything.

It all boils down to this, chewey: You think you're stickin' it to the Man and speaking Truth to Power, problem being we're not the Man and we're not the Power.  We're just a bunch of guys (and gals) that enjoy Johnnie football and share your frustrations with a sub-par season.  Who here argues that nothing should change?  No one.  What we don't share is your flamingly personal and increasingly belligerent rantings.

You have no apparently genuine interest in discussing what can be improved at SJU, since if you did you would find plenty of friendly folks here.  Instead you seem more interested in engaging in cheap polemics and unhinged ranting.  And on that topic, as well as on your analysis of what ails SJU (damn that fancy song!), you also fall embarrassingly short of competent.  Your latest screed is a pitiful victim of your tragically limited argumentative vocabulary and monochromatic bully technique.  It also seems that you are victim of an inability to comprehend your own argument.  We are not a bunch of rubes and patsies that fail to see the wisdom that only you have shined a light upon.  Your apparent inability to recognize our offense is with your name calling, not of the Johnnies but of us, points to an obtuseness of rare density.

You think the Johnnies are off this year and it may be systemic?  Fine (ooooh, an unique insight.  Not.).

You think we are a bunch of SJU sycophants for failing to whither under your melodramatic histrionics? Blowhard.

And with that finished, I now follow tmerton's advice.

Very nice 60's imagery.  Could I get a tie die shirt and a peace sign with all of that?  Having been on this site for years, it's not a theme of sticking it to the man.  Rather, it is the redundancy of SJU apologia year after year.  I don't know where polemics comes from, unless it's a continuation, of your inapposite 60's sticking it to the man theme.  I don't think we've been discussing politics or religion here.  I guess you must have some complex -- building upon your thumbnail psychology above -- that you impute to everyone whom you are claiming to defend - how patriarchal -- with all of your "rubes" and "patsies" business.  Rather than continue to not only prime your affected and priggish sensibilities but also feed your need to engage in anarchist imagery I'll end with indicating that the pre-game pomp and circumstance, of which the songs are just a part, among other things mentioned above and unmentioned have turned some very good athletes away.  I can think of one who accepted a partial to MSU-Mankato and another who decided to walk on at Iowa State as cases in point. As to the competence of my positions, we'll see in the next few years.  There were many who discussed the paucity  of talent in the St. Cloud Times blog this summer.   A couple of people indicated that the talent level is just not there and feared that it may stay that way for a couple of years.  I thought their arguments were without much foundation then.

We can now play off listerv.

Geez, OZ. I had to run and get my Roget's. I pulled a hammy doing this, then my shoulder went out carrying that tome. I'm a better man for it. I think I'll listen to Dennis Miller today, and be futher enlightened.   ::)

Agreed.  Both teams need more experienced QB's.  If no one comes in next year for SJU, hopefully Crees, Hansel or Boyle will have learned much from this year and can take it to another level.  I'm excited to see Auggie and Carleton too, especially the receiving/QB combo at Auggie.
