Paaaatttt, they aren't playing nice again.   :'(

Pat's too busy mopping up the carnage and getting grief counselors on the NWC board.

On the St. Olaf field goal, I heard last night that this was the kicker's first game, and a quick look at the STO season stats seems to confirm that.

Just went over there for a read.  Geez and I thought this board was turning dysfunctional.   ::)

3.)  SJU is, in my opinion, doing some things that are exacerbating #2.  Namely, the pre-game glamor stuff (Does anyone really think that a kid from Fulda, MN is really going to be attracted to that sort of stuff.  Is any well-grounded kid who just wants to play football for the winningest college coach going to be impressed by it? I don't think so).

To add one thing, as someone whose entire family is either from or currently lives in or near the lovely community of Fulda, Minn. (sorry, Bennie), let me say that there haven't been any players from there in the last four years who St. John's would even want. And knowing one Fulda kid in particular - my nephew - who did attend a game last year with a classmate who was being recruited for a different sport at St. Johh's, I guarantee that these small-town rubes weren't upset about pregame glitz and glamour. In fact, shockingly, they actually thought it was sort of cool.

I don't think there's much evidence that the supposed sideshows at the Johnnie games are actually turning off players. Maybe it annoys you or me or other fans over the age of 30. But we're not 18-year-old kids. They appreciate different things than over-the-hill folks. I don't understand the appeal of text-messaging; but that doesn't mean I think teenage kids would be turned off by coaches who use that as a recruiting method.

Before the NCAA banned it - because it was working too well - schools would put recruits in promotional videos that had them starring at the college, or had a uniform for them with their future number. Do you think kids were experiencing that sort of wining and dining from, say, Florida State, and were turned off by it and instead wanted to go play at Yale, where the only pregame festivities consisted of frumpy cheerleaders in ill-fitting uniforms and nerdy bandmembers playing 'Tequila'? Of all the reasons a player might not go to St. John's, I'm guessing that the pregame and promotional festivities at the home games are probably about 798th on the list. There's probably more kids who don't go there because they hate the color red.

I'm surprised they got all those recruits who came to games over the years. I'd have thought they were turned off by the atmosphere of playing in front of 9,000 fans, and would have preferred the "middle class" values at schools that drew 500 fans.

I used Fulda as an example.  If you want present day real-time examples, think south central Minnesota area.  They have lost some extremely good recruits recently, 9000 fans or not, and it is a fact that other coaches do use the show that is pre-game, that they won't get in until their senior year (if at all), the "we are SJU" stance, etc. to their advantage.  It is having a greater impact now.  All you have to do is know, from church, business or just going to games, some parents of a couple good high school athletes.

You could probably recruit kids from Fulda (or Slayton for that matter) by showing them a Starbucks and a room full of girls that they aren't related to! 8)

I personally have decided that I can no longer visit my sister because the Starbucks there closed! :P

Even though St. John's won, for which I am grateful, it's too bad for that kid.  I think we'll see as good of things from STO as we've been used to seeing with Meidt.  Jerry O, the new coach, is very capable and used to do the recruiting for MN-Mankato bringing in guys like John Hebgen, Jamie Pass, Josh Nelsen, etc. in the mid-90's.

My sister doesn't live in Slayton. ;D  No Fleet Farm, but Slayton did get a Subway a few years ago!! That way you can have something to eat while driving the half hour to go to the movie theater... :-\

What would be wrong with this idea?  Have an intersquad game the Saturday before the season starts, using just the "other 100".  Divide them into two teams and let them play a full contact 60 minute game.  Allow free admission but sell the normal food and other stuff.   This goes a bit against John's approach to practices but it would be fun and also give the new kids a chance to show what they can do in a competitive situation.

As others have mentioned, the game would last about 30 seconds until someone got the wind knocked out of them or the gnats got too bad or it got too overcast and/or sunny.  There are some risks that just can't be taken when you've only got 180 players on your roster.

All this talk of Kofoed, I would hope that any qb that has started for 2, 3 or 4 years would do a better job than a first year starter and that is pretty much what SJU has this year.

OH.  MY.  GOD.   Could it be?!?!?!  A tacit admission from Zip himself that Alex Kofoed maybe, just maybe, might have possibly been the right choice at quarterback last year?  I don't believe it!

(And contrary to popular belief, I'm really not the Kofoed-Head that people make me out to be.  I just thought the calls for him to be replaced last year were badly misguided and apparently that makes me his biggest supporter on this site.)

Nice of the Gophers to step up and fill the void left by the Johnnies' bye week this Saturday.  I don't want to hop on their bandwagon just yet (see what I did to the Johnnies', Auggies', and Knights' bandwagons this season...), but let's just say they're on the radar.

So did any of you hear about the Navy game from this weekend? Four hundred and four total yards of offence all on the ground!! Zero passing yards! "Navy became the first major college team in 11 years to not attempt a pass in its 34-7 victory against SMU on Saturday." That is an interesting coaching decision, but it worked. :o

Oh, and I am surprised (or maybe not) that none of the Wild fans have mentioned how Columbus and Rick Nash were robbed on Saturday!! 8)

Hey everyone.  Haven't been on the board in a few weeks but just thought you'd all like to know (in case you were worried) that Silly is back, and I am jumping on my own bandwagon as it is the only bandwagon I believe in anymore.  Go ME.

The kicker was new. In fact, he wasn't even listed in the Ole program.

I don't have any information as to what was going on, but that's certainly a rough way to start a career...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

TC, being the Twins fan you are, what do you think of a kid in the system by the name of Trevor Plouffe.  My son played with him in high school for a year.  He was taken in the first round, we all thoguht he would make it.
