Hey TC-don't get me wrong about Kofoed, I would take Ross Denne(Sp?) this year if he was available.

tmerton.......have you ever seen script Ohio being done live?  The entire stadium goes nuts.  It's pretty cool.  The Baton guy needs some testosterone though. ;)

Ross Denne was pretty solid.  Another SJU tight end converted to QB like Corey Stanger.

Congratulations, Dusty.  This article of yours at johnniefootball.com was a joy to read.  Very good.

You already know we all love your "road to the MIAC championship" series of articles at johnniefootball.com.  Can I make a request?  Maybe a supplement of "road to the second pick into the post season" section?

WIAC is this close to having a two loss second team.  IIAC already does.  Same with the NWC.  SCIAC not yet (could they qualify two?).

(EDIT:  and All, I didn't want to turn this into the NWC board, so please forgive my indulgence.  Six months until I pop-off again, as that seems to be about the pattern for these outbursts of mine.)

Good idea-- I was actually thinking of doing a West region recap to it anyway, especially after a discussion I had with Zip late last week.    But I will put an accountant visor on and start crunching some beans to see if the numbers work in the Johnnies' or even the MIAC's favor at this point.

My gut feeling is that UWW losing hurt, but Williamette's win helped.  I think the NCAA will be very hesitant to put two SCIACs in given their playoff history...but that is just off the top of my head.

I've seen it on television.  I don't have it on my bucket list (it's not like it's Amherst and Williams or anything).  I imagine it's pretty cool to see, though I've been in downtown Dallas the night before an OU-Texas game, and I'm not sure there's much to top that - even Amherst-Williams.

Hey Wonka,

Where did this RB from Gustavus come from?  Quite the impressive day for him on saturday.  Gustavus seems to be putting together quite a balanced offensive attack.

Besides from no where, you mean? He's a senior with 464 career yards to his name entering his senior year. He'd totaled just 141 this season prior to Saturday's outburst. He's the definition of a "flash in a pan"...but I certainly hope he can keep it going.

Keep in mind, GAC had around 600 yards rushing in the previous six games. They rushed for 360 on Saturday against Augsburg...

For what it's worth, Wilson was supposed to be a stud coming out of Totino. I think the GAC coaching staff was hoping he'd contribute right away. Clearly, that didn't pan out. I don't know that I've ever seen him run well — from a sketchy memory, he has a pretty up-and-down style that takes a lot of punishment.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Having coached while Denne was at SJU; he was no leftover that would suffice in a pinch.  Keating's playmaking ability was the ever so slight difference between the two (it is debatable that there was a difference).  Had Ross been healthy in the 02 playoffs, we would have defeated Trinity and played Mount Union in the Stagg Bowl.  I can also assure you that Ross would not have tolerated horse$hit offensive line play.....you was one of the most competitive QBs that would not let his linemen play like slugs...you often went reda$$ on them.

One of the most impressive player performances I have ever seen occurred with Ross at QB against UST in 02.  Ross passed for 420 yards and 4TDs, while SJU piled up 709 yards of total offense (514 of which came in the first half with 22 first downs).  Not that I am bitter at all, but we also had over 300 yards rushing that netted to 264 after a punt long-snap was launched over Wooderson's head late in the 4th quarter and cost us over 30 yards.  What made this game and performance so incredible was that early in the week prior to the game one of the former players for SJU (and good friend of Ross and many others) passed away....it was a very emotional week and game.  Ross was/is a pure leader.

Esq,
We are going to need something in this 'Bye Week" as the natives are getting a bit restless  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I remember going to Homecoming in 2002 and watching Denne play QB. I was very impressed with him (as well as being amazed by some guy who wore #2. I told my son after about a quarter that he was, by far, the best player on the field. Boy am I a judge of talent or what ;D) I didn't find out until later that Denne was the backup for Keating, and couldn't believe there was a better QB on that team. I saw on TV the next year what I had missed, although I wasn't sure he was all that much better than Denne.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

3.)  SJU is, in my opinion, doing some things that are exacerbating #2.  Namely, the pre-game glamor stuff (Does anyone really think that a kid from Fulda, MN is really going to be attracted to that sort of stuff.  Is any well-grounded kid who just wants to play football for the winningest college coach going to be impressed by it? I don't think so).

Pre-game glamor stuff ???  Perhaps you could be more specific.  You mean the new "anthem" or whatever they call it?  If so, that strikes me as a pretty marginal element and hardly likely to offend the sensitivities of prospective players.  And what do "well-grounded" kids from Fulda have to do with lack of talent in the O-line or defensive backfield?  The connection isn't obvious to me.

I suspect there may well be issues regarding SJU recruiting effort, recruiting strategy, etc., but I've yet to see anyone posting here who actually has any real knowledge about what the Johnnies are doing or not doing in this regard.  Gags was quoted as saying the SJU recruited UST's Waldvogel very hard, and the kid was apparently ready to head to SJU before Caruso persuaded him to play for the Tommies, but I don't know how one could ascribe that or other recruiting misses to Johnnie arrogance ("We're St. John's. You come here if you come here), much less pre-game glamor stuff, whatever that is.

Edit: Too bad I didn't see sfury's post first - I could have saved some time and just said "What he said" instead. ;)
Actually, the word at the two Avenues (Snelling & Cretin) is that it was a TEAM effort by Caruso & Fritz that landed Waldvogel-- for football AND hoops. Apparently, that kind of team play was lacking at the other schools he looked at.

Fulda produced Reusse-- hasnt the town suffered enough?  :D

As a small town kid (once upon a time), I'd say I'd have been blown away (In a good way) by the pregame hype, crowd size, etc...that is SJU's biggest selling point for football-- DI-like atmopshere without the D-I BS
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.
