Northwestern is garbage.

Finally, a bandwagon we can all agree to ride...

Here's a question that might stir some discussion:  Who has a better shot at winning this week, the Rays or John McCain?

Just back from a great trip to catfish country where, incidentally, gas was $2.049/ gal.
I should do that more often since the JOHNNIES have a laugher when I do.   ;D

I wouldn't say they're garbage as that probably is a relative term.  In a conference, the UMAC, where Crown (we all know SJU's history with them) is 3 - 1, they are probably seen as pretty good at 4 - 0.   Admittedly, they'll probably get soundly beaten in the post-season, should they make it there.

I think I will ride the TGWS's bandwagon on this one.

The Rays.  John McCain and the rest of the Republican party will likely be beaten pretty badly this year. It's a toss up as to which is the more likely outcome:  Phillies winning or the Democrats getting a filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

The Tommies will improve in the win/loss column, no doubt.  Look for the winner of the Tommies final regular season game to go to the playoffs.  You heard it here first.

The last place I paid under $2/gallon was in Tulsa two years ago.  (I also remember the 'gas wars' of the 50s and 60s in Oklahoma - you could get gas for a nickle a gallon, or less.  But that was in the antediluvian period. 8))

Even with 2 conference losses and presuming Concordia wins out, do you think St. Thomas still gets a Pool C?  I guess I'd like to see that, presuming SJU would not get it.  With the IIAC and WIAC and NWC the way they are this year, I guess there could be a fair shot.

Looking forward to the continuation of the world's longest baseball game tonight. Hope it goes into extra innings. Then I hope the Rays win. Then I hope it goes to 7 games. Then I don't really care what happens.
I kinda like the Rays for the "worst to first" thing, but kinda like the Phillies because my dad's old beer drinking buddy, Rip Repulski, used to play for the Phils.

I remember Dad telling me stories of being out with Rip and Billy Martin, thinking the scrawny Italian would be out after a few drinks, then Martin would proceed to drink the whole world under the table.

I'm as lost as everybody else, but I'll trust Esq when he says the Tommies have a shot if they run the table.

After the Tommies win the next two games, are Johnnie fans going to get behind Northwestern?  As I recall there wasn't much love for the Bethel Royals after the Johnnies were eliminated.

I paid AU$1.54/liter on the weekend for premium unleaded. 1 gallon =  3.7854118 liters.  Today AU$1 = US$.667956.

So 1.54 * 3.7854118 * .667956 = US$3.89 a gallon.

Basically, that means I won't be coming home soon, at least until this recession (if it happens) sorts itself out.  A month before the Lehman's collapse, the Aussie dollar was trading at about US$.92, which meant that same gallon of gasoline, all other things being equal, would have cost me US$5.36.

Although it may seem counterintuitive, since you all transact in Yankee dollars, my purchasing power has fallen by about 30% in the last 6 weeks.  And that means all that fall in prices of crude oil haven't hit the pumps here and prices remain, in Aussie dollars, roughly what they where when crude was US$140 a barrel.

Down with Capitalism!111!!!!11

(EDIT: but as is to be expected with bloody Capitalism there are some damn advantages as well, the bastages.  As the price of crude was skyrocketing for you, the Aussie dollar was greatly appreciating in value so our prices at the pumps increased only by about %25 at over the last couple years while you know what happened to your prices.  Floating currencies helped us weather the increase with little impact, but now we don't see the same benefits as you in the drop in prices.

Ah, the hell with it.  Down with Capitalism anyway!!1!!!11!)

I'm going for the Phillies because of Charlie Manual, had a few drinks with him back in '92 when he was managing Colorado Springs.  If I remember right, Matt Stairs was also on that team and stuck around after the season and played fall softball with us in Widefield CO.  (How is that Snoop?)

That was exactly my thoughts as well.  I just leaned over an mentioned to Nolan Ryan & Frank Viola, here on a vacation and sitting in the coffee shop across from me, that you guys are name dropping like pros.

The mere fact that Northwestern is listed in the regional rankings this week is proof that the AQ system is fatally flawed.  When a school wins a conference against teams that would likely struggle to wins games in the Classic Lake conference, they certainly have not earned the ability to crow about football success.

When AO's squad makes the playoffs (due to an AQ) I guarantee they will not be within 50 points of their opponent....you heard it here first :o :o

BTW for Pat--- with the growth in AQ conferences the last couple of years, how bad will the playoff records of some of these conferences have to be before the NCAA puts some qualitative criteria on their selection?  You also need to update your playoff history page with the MIAC playoff record now at 26-14 (SJU 20-7, Bethel 3-5 and Concordia 3-2).
