I'm as lost as everybody else, but I'll trust Esq when he says the Tommies have a shot if they run the table.

After the Tommies win the next two games, are Johnnie fans going to get behind Northwestern?  As I recall there wasn't much love for the Bethel Royals after the Johnnies were eliminated.

Here's the thing holding UST back: Assuming there is a pool C slot to be awarded to either UST or SJU, if SJU runs the table and UST runs the table, and assuming UST does not show up in a regional ranking, while UST's RRO ranking would be 2-1, their head to head with SJU is simple: 0-1.  Head to head is a primary consideration for the playoffs, while record versus RRO is secondary.  So in other words, someone in the NCAA would have to choose a team that lost, at home, to the other team in consideration for that same slot.  Do you think the NCAA has the huevos to do that?

Now, taking it a step further-- while we all know past playoff history is not to be considered in who is under consideration for the playoffs...except when the NCAA disregards that mantra and does it anyway, and we are talking about St. John's, who the NCAA rewarded with a home playoff game last year???

Nah.  Not happening that UST gets the nod.

I think UST deserves to be under consideration, but not over SJU will they be selected.

Check out Keith's ATN article. It seems unlikely that any two-loss team will be under consideration for an at-large.

There are three weeks left...and who would have thunk this year would play out like it has?

Anything can happen, and that's why they play the games!

The mere fact that Northwestern is listed in the regional rankings this week is proof that the AQ system is fatally flawed.  When a school wins a conference against teams that would likely struggle to wins games in the Classic Lake conferenceagainst theMelrose Dutchmen they certainly have not earned the ability to crow about football success.

There, I fixed it for you Redtooth  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Does the UMAC get an automatic bid this year?

Where is Rip Repulski from? My recollection is Little Falls or some such two stoplight town.

Good ol' Sauk Rapids.  A hometown boy.

I don't think so.  I think you have to have a certain number of teams in a league for an AQ.  The NWC had 6 for the longest time and did not get an AQ because of that reason, from what I understand.  They get an automatic qualifier this year, for some reason (I'm glad that they do because I think they kind of got shafted last year), but they did not last year and both years they've had 7 teams.  The UMAC only has 5 teams so I think that they do not get an AQ based on that alone.

To AO:  Personally, I cheered for Bethel last year at Central and against MUC.  They've done a lot to improve their program over the years and they have an excellent coach.  I want the MIAC to win, regardless of the team.  I think that a conference that does well in the playoffs year after year will be more likely to be awarded a Pool C than other conferences that probably don't do as well.

You are correct.  It is my understanding that a conference needs to have 7 teams to get an AQ.

I didn't cheer for Bethel last year, and I wouldn't cheer for the Royals, Tommies or anyone from the UMAC this year or any year.  But as far as Concordia or Augsburg or Carleton is concerned, I wish them all the best on their potential postseason journey(s).

Well, the regional rankings are pretty close to what I figured. The only change I would make is swapping UW-W and UW-Stevens Point.

Also, is Northwestern really that good this year?

familyguyfaneightyfour

Suppose Northwestern makes the playoffs and the Johnnies don't.  What will be lower: AO's Karma or Northwestern's chances of winning?

Correctomundo Oz. Came back to town after his playing days and opened "Rip's Bar" on the corner of 8th and St. Germain, now known as the Landmark. I still have my dad's old softball shirt from Rip's--satin green with white sleeves, "RIP'S" on the back in block letters arched over a stencil of a beer goblet.
Rip's wife Millie still resides in Waite Park.

Two stoplights?  We have at least 7 in Little Falls.  Where the hell have you been?  :)
Go Johnnies!!!

Since some folks occasionaly post about nhl on here, and sju has a bye, I've decided to write some brief thoughts about the wolves opener and see if anyone else is interested.

1) I sort of enjoyed watching the wolves tonight, which is rare for me.

2) Their new court and uniforms look sharp. Big improvement.

3) I'm glad the wolves got kevin love. I was not interested in another athletic shooting guard (McCants, Foye, almost Mayo)

4) It would be impossible for any reasonable person to take Mike Miller seriously with that haircut.
