Since some folks occasionaly post about nhl on here, and sju has a bye, I've decided to write some brief thoughts about the wolves opener and see if anyone else is interested.

1) I sort of enjoyed watching the wolves tonight, which is rare for me.

2) Their new court and uniforms look sharp. Big improvement.

3) I'm glad the wolves got kevin love. I was not interested in another athletic shooting guard (McCants, Foye, almost Mayo)

4) It would be impossible for any reasonable person to take Mike Miller seriously with that haircut.

hey GB.....tell me about the Mike Miller haircut....I've lost track of Mike....even though he is from my hometown...

To AO:  Personally, I cheered for Bethel last year at Central and against MUC.  They've done a lot to improve their program over the years and they have an excellent coach.  I want the MIAC to win, regardless of the team.  I think that a conference that does well in the playoffs year after year will be more likely to be awarded a Pool C than other conferences that probably don't do as well.

I didn't cheer for Bethel last year, and I wouldn't cheer for the Royals, Tommies or anyone from the UMAC this year or any year.  But as far as Concordia or Augsburg or Carleton is concerned, I wish them all the best on their potential postseason journey(s).

Agreed.  I hope who-ever takes the MIAC does well and beats the western teams into the dirt.

To clear up a few things, UMAC football had 10 members between 2002 and 2007, 9 NCAA members when you don't include Trinity Bible.  But the UMAC wasn't a recognized d3 conference as a few members were still in transition.  This year 6 teams left for either the NAC or the SLIAC, or were kicked out in the case of Trinity Bible.  It would be nice if Crookston or Macalester would join the UMAC for football so we could get the AQ, but Pool B might be a better way of selecting teams as you are rewarded for playing a harder schedule and ending 9-1 versus playing in all terrible schools and getting an AQ.

Redtooth:  While I appreciate your fondness for the Classic Lake as my cousin leads the undefeated Wayzata Trojans in tackling, I doubt you have seen Northwestern or Wayzata in action this year.  high school isn't college, especially in football.  don't be an idiot.

on a side note: went to the T-wolves opener tonight and came away feeling much better about trading OJ Mayo for K-love.  We're coming.. We're coming.....

Finally, a window into AO's demented mind, taken from this week's ATN:

"3. Here's more proof that score strings are only as helpful as one wants them to be: Northwestern (Minn.) beat UW-River Falls 41-34, and UW-RF beat UW-Stevens Point, 36-30. UW-SP just knocked off defending national champion UW-Whitewater, 17-16. So obviously Northwestern should now be considered a national championship contender, no?"

And you didn't have enough core full Division III members among those nine anyway. You can only take on so many affiliate members to reach your seven.

The reason the NWC had a two-year waiting period is that they added Menlo as an affiliate member. If a full member, such as Pacific, had added football, they would've gotten an automatic bid right away.

Thanks for the information, Pat.  I was wondering about the NWC and why it did not get a bid last year.

If they beat UW-RF and Minnesota Morris, they really can't be too bad.  UW-RF is not a powder puff team, for sure, and UMM used to be in the NSIC with Winona State and UMD, although they were the bottom team usually.  I remember the Concordia St. Paul was a totally different program about 10 to 12 years back (maybe it was sooner than that).  SJU really beat up on them one year.   For a couple years now, at least, they have been a pretty respectable foe in the NSIC.

Lets see how Northwestern does against UST at the end of the year before we assume that they will get in via a Pool B bid...and if they lose that game, does that mean they are no better than 5th place in the MIAC?

I did get a chuckle seeing them in front of both CC and SJU, but what made me laugh even harder was Monmouth in front of the two Wisconsin schools...come on haven't we seen this before??

It will be an interesting march to the finish, plenty of showdown games between the Cailfornia teams and in the WIAC.

Maybe we need a new rule in DIII...if a conference's automatic qualifier losses in the first round 4 straight years, they lose their bid, which would then open up another pool c bid, which their conference champ could qualify for.  The only way they could get their AQ back is to win two straight years in the tourney...of course this will never happen and traditionally weak leagues with weak teams will be represented.

I heard that there was a "late" and "tough" pass interference call that had a hand in determining the Pipes game vs Concordia...anyone who was there care to comment?

I wonder if Northwestern benefits from the same name confusion that Cornell College does?  ("Hey, Mom and Dad, I was just accepted at Cornell!!!  But this letter's from Iowa!??!" :D )

Ouch!  You're right.

Now that Adam Morrison cut his hair and looks rather menacing, somebody had to pick up his "look."

The White Silly

If I'm not mistaken, Northwestern plays Crown this Friday for the UMAC regular season conf. chip' at the dome.  You heard it here first, Crown wins 48-41 (they lost to Northworstern earlier in the year 38-34).  Oh yeah, I'm also on the Crown bandwagon as I have a few connections there.  There is room if anyone wants to jump on the STORM wagon when they play Northworstern this Friday.  Come aboard!  To infinite and beyond!!!

Yeah, I see Monmouth and think 62-3 ....

As for Miller, he seems to be channeling a less-physical Janelle McCarville.
