I hate my team-whichever one is losing at the time. :o

Tweetybird--- the fact that your club has won three straight against SJU is definitely something to be proud of, but like last season when the chest pounding for respect became unbearable, true respect is earned in the playoffs.  Having THREE playoff victories in your existence is hardly a beefy resume (although it is three more than the Clown Conference that Northwestern plays in) especially when all three wins came in one season.

VOJ--- you have taken my idea one step further, but I totally agree with you.  Some of the AQ conferences have taken up space.

As it relates to AO/Northwestern; the fact that your conference is so tough and deep that you have to play an opponent twice in the regular season should be an automatic disqualification for NCAA playoffs (the NAIA does that crap due to such a small number of schools left).  Don't kid yourself into believing that the UMAC teams are qualitatively superior to high school teams in MN.

You really do live in your own little world don't you?

What do you expect; this is a guy who lives in a world in which sad sacks Tirico and Kornheiser are considered good announcers (I'll give Jaws a pass).

My own little world of getting paid to fly around the world and broadcast sporting events. Let me tell you, it's a rough life  8)

Apparently it is not just people's feet that swell when they fly... ;)

Damned for living in my own little world and damned for describing the world I live in. Tough crowd  :)

I don't think any SJU fan likes SJU losing to anyone, let alone and especically to Bethel.  I think bitter is inapposite -- well, maybe it's descriptive of me at times-- and abandon is completely out of the park.  I would defy you to find a fan on here, or anyone of the 10,000 that show up for games, that would truly throw SJU to the scrap heap.  Whether it's UW-L 1996 where they lost in that mud bowl charitably described as a field in LaCrosse or it's the 1993 smack down by MUC or it's the 3 consecutive losses to Bethel, or it's the 1986 4-4-1, or it's the 2002 loss at Trinity where SJU darn near rescued itself in San Antonio in the 4th quarter, or it's a tie with Concordia and a loss at to STO in 1995 the playoffs are missed despite having Chris Palmer, or it's 1997 you won't find an SJU/CSB person who actually abandons the program.  Every other school, to my knowledge, has very limited stand capacity and they have a lower fan turnout from game to game except the games in which they play the Johnnies.  The Johnnie game is the revenue maker most times.   Why is that?  Because the SJU fans travel very well and, usually, there are more of them than the home team fans.  What does make me truly bitter is the Bethel gyro-jump.   :) Even STO fans did it last weekend.

So in a UST vs. Northwestern game, what are the posters here thinking? Obviously there is plenty of hate for UST here, but Northwestern is also disliked (somewhat courtesy of AO)....so does the fact that UST is MIAC cause an SJU poster to pull for the tommies? or are you eagle backers for the day?

I'd be an eagle backer that day.  My support for other MIAC schools only comes into play during the playoffs.

For the first time in my life I think that I would have to go with UST(D).  Unless of course NW has been eliminated from playoff consideration.   ;D

I guess that's what happens when you lose to a team 3 years in a row....

I didn't realize that TC lost anything.

Distancing yourself from SJU? At this point that is a wise move.

Why do you pretend to know my reasons for why I would or would not cheer for a particular school?  For the record, I wouldn't have pulled for the Royals in 2005, either.  And if you haven't noticed, St. John's has lost some recent games to Concordia and St. Olaf, too, and I have nothing against either of those programs.

I'm thinking St. Thomas is going to win by at least 3 scores.  I also think I'd like to see both teams lose.  If it were up to me to choose the winner of the game, I would choose which ever choice would benefit St. John's at that point.

Finally, a window into AO's demented mind, taken from this week's ATN:

"3. Here's more proof that score strings are only as helpful as one wants them to be: Northwestern (Minn.) beat UW-River Falls 41-34, and UW-RF beat UW-Stevens Point, 36-30. UW-SP just knocked off defending national champion UW-Whitewater, 17-16. So obviously Northwestern should now be considered a national championship contender, no?"

I did get a chuckle seeing them in front of both CC and SJU, but what made me laugh even harder was Monmouth in front of the two Wisconsin schools...come on haven't we seen this before??

It will be an interesting march to the finish, plenty of showdown games between the Cailfornia teams and in the WIAC.

Yeah, I see Monmouth and think 62-3 ....

As for Miller, he seems to be channeling a less-physical Janelle McCarville.
hey now...lets not be dissing Janelle like that... Id say Miller looks too "tall" to play for the powerful NW Eagles
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Not sure if she types.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

It's kind of like watching a Jerry Springer episode with trailer-trash lesbians battling over the rights to their three-toothed cousin...  You're glad that you can turn the channel and don't have to watch, but it would be nice if the program didn't end so they could go beating on each other for eternity while you can relax and enjoy real football games on ESPN.

I'm sorry if offended anyone by claiming that some may have abandoned the johnnie football program.  If you did take offense, you have proven me wrong and I'm thankful because contrary to popular belief, I do respect the tradition at St. John's.  It's incredible to have that kind of fan support for a D-3 college, it's definitely one of a kind.  It wouldn't be near as much fun to hope for a johnnie loss if nobody cared, win or lose because they weren't playing in the game.

Redtooth:  can you think of any football conferences that have a conference championship game?  by golly, you're right, the SEC and Big 12 have no business competing in Bowl games when they could potentially play the same team twice in the regular season.

I respect the tradition, dislike the arrogant "fans."  You would think a program with so much on its side wouldn't have so many insecure fans.  When you are at the top you can either be a gracious ruler or a pack of pricks.  Unfortunately over the years most SJU fans chose the latter probably because they don't have much else to lean on.

Don't worry about Redrash, he is bitter towards the sju/bethel/miac for other reason.... ::)

Last time I strapped on the pads was December of 2002.  I have not lost to a team 3 times in a row since high school :P  And you have never beaten the Johnnies nor had any part in ever beating the Johnnies.

Further proof that you don't want to be associated with your team due to recent poor play and losing streaks.  I expected more out of a Johnnie fan but I guess your true colors come out when times get tough.

Does this mean you won't refer to SJU as "we" or "us" anymore?

For half a second it seems as if you are posting something that is a bit smart and tricky (having set and sprung a neat little trap), but the Bethel helmet used as your avatar and we're reminded of the saying about monkeys typing Shakespeare given enough time and luck.

EDIT:  But then we find you were actually taking yourself seriously rather than just trying to trick some guys into a pretzel when you type this:

I never take myself seriously on this board.  I just like to ruffle some feathers when I get bored in the middle of the week  ;)

Ps do you really think Tirico is that bad? Kornheiser is terrible and likely gone after this season but I would rather listen to Mike than Michaels or Joe Buck any day.
