Always nice to retain my judicial position after yesterday's election! Out of thirteen seats in our judicial district, I was fortunate enough to get the second highest number of votes. There was only one contested election in our district which was won by the incumbent judge.

Hopefully the Johnnie connection, the Stiftungsfestivities, writing for The Guillotine, ties to amateur "town team" baseball and the endorsement I got from Paris Hilton  ;) made it happen.

Well, congratulations!  Some of my favorite write-in candidates over the years, especially regarding the Senate race last night are: "Anybody but him," "Empty Suit," "Judge Roy Bean (the Hanging Judge)" "Captain Kangaroo" -- especially reserved for Judges  :) , "Gazoo."  These are usually reserved for the unopposed county commissioners and such though last night's Senate race was an exception.

Suppose I should mention that my brother J.P., who is also a Johnnie, was elected the mayor of Norwood Young America yesterday.

I saw that on the news this morning and figured it must be a relative of yours!

So, the defense against Auggie Tech's offense...  I figure success will be in the pass rush.

And do you all think that the Johnnie O has managed to get organized?  Could this week break 30 points against an increasingly weak looking AT defense?

Inquiring minds want to know.

(And congratulations, JJR.  Keep putting the crims in the big house.)

The weather is going to give the St. John's offense more trouble than the Auggies will this weekend.  The teams that St. John's struggles against offensively are those that can exploit their biggest weakness-the offensive line.  As you might imagine of a team that has allowed 325 and 354 rushing yards the past two weeks, the Auggies don't have much of a defensive line this week.

The Auggies' offense is predicated on turning short passes into big yardage.  Two things that might make that difficult are a speedy defense and poor weather, two things that should be present on Saturday.   If Augsburg thinks they're going to go 80 yards in 16 plays without making any costly mistakes they're sorely mistaken.

I think this game will be a lot like the SJU/UW-River Falls game earlier this year--St. John's dominated the game, but due to bad weather and a consistent but conservative offense, the scoreboard didn't reflect how well the Johnnies played.  St. John's 21, Augsburg 6 sounds about right.

(And I think I just wrote my preview for JohnnieFootball.com.  Free preview!)

For those that have seen any of their recent games, what's wrong with the Cobbers?  I really expected them to run away and hide with the division lead and win a playoff game this year.

JR.....are any judges in your district appointed?  I had a run in with a judge last week.  We are 2 months prior to trial and he wanted all jury instructions, motions is limine etc emailed to him.  Jokingly I told him I didn't have a computer and couldn't email them.  I then received a  stern scoulding from him about joining the 21st century and that I had to have one to practice law in HIS COURTROOM.  I then advised him the state bar didn't require me to have one.  He then asked me if I had a toothbrush and $250 dollars.  I had my secretary email them that afternoon.   :-X

Sabretooth Tiger

Geez snoop . . . maybe you need me to co-counsel all of your federal cases that require electronic filing!

You remember federal court don't you?  I'm sure you discussed it in law school civ pro.
;) ;) :D :D ;D ;D

OAS - congrats on your nice gig tonight on WCCO news.  I can't believe that you didn't have d3football.com up on your computer when they did that shot from behind your desk.   :)

Buckwheat - where the hell have you been?  Your absence has been appreciated. ;D
Go Johnnies!!!

snoop dawg

Hey....my secretary had to enroll in a special class just so I could file suit and comply with those ridiculous requirements and, it was very expensive.  The class was a prerequiste to being able to file docs!  WTF?  Someone is cashing in.  What a scam.

Jury Instructions and Motions in Lim 2 months before trial?????  Those are done one week to two weeks prior at most.  It sounds like your Judge has too much time on his hands or he's new and wants to make damn sure that he knows everything 150% and give the jury the right jury instructions so he can make bullet proof findings so he won't possibly get overturned on appeal.  A big show awaits when you go through voi dire

More likely just a guy trying to control his calendar and get cases to settle earlier - and/or someone who's seen snoop in his court before. ;)

snoop dawg

The guy is a control freak.  This is a simple auto v auto trial.  He is about 5'2".  A little weasle who got beat up as a kid and is now getting even withthe world.  He is now on my auto disqualify list.  In fact, I have discovered, he is just about everyones suto dq list. He is an electedjudge who will not be reelected.  JR if you want to run in  for judge in So. Cal.,  I will head your campaign against this ego maniac.  Hell, I will even fund it.  You will only need your vote and mine to win the election.  He will get one vote, his.  HIS CLERK EVEN HATES HIM.

Chill, you legal beagles. Do what I do and tell them my Mayoral duties preclude me from meeting your temporal demands, but if you insist, just come up with your own instructions, you know what I want. Whatever you come up with Judge, I'm fine with it. It all works out better that way. Really. The less you fight, the more they like you. The more they like you, the better the result.

Now feel free to check out, after a brief hiatus, this week's Sizzle.

Another interesting note from the land down under...

"That's a wrap for budding filmmakers"

FOUR filmmakers were arrested after neighbours mistook an armed confrontation for the real thing.

Apparently, they were geniuses...

Senior  Constable Wilson said it was only when officers found the filming equipment that they realised it had all been an act.  Four men in their 20s were arrested and are likely to be charged with firearms offences and creating a public nuisance.

...

"They hadn't notified any persons what they were doing down here today, there were no permits, they hadn't had the courtesy to notify even the security within the premises here,'' Senior Sergeant Stephen Cooper said last night.

I know it's going to be in Duffman's preview on johnniefootball.com, but I thought one of the Auggie backers may want to educate us as well.

Who is are these receivers you have that are so good?  Where did the come from and what makes them special (speed?  height?)?

Nice story Finsleft- in reading the sizzle it appears to recommend you to practice sharing the wealth this weekend?  I am sure in da north woods everyone is in agreement.  If you let the big one go by, some one else will send a bigger one your way.

Since I'm hanging around with nothing to do but go to bed, I thought I would put two great Harry Enfield vids up to have a look at.  These may have been here before, but even so they are pretty funny.

Women, Know Your Limits (An absolute classic)

Women, For Pity's Sake Don't Drive (Tough to follow a classic, but still pretty damn funny)
