BTW: Pat you were incorrect about the SJU game. Hope you pick Carleton next week. ;D ;)

The MIAC seriously needs too look into new referees. There were way too many calls made that were no where near personal fouls.

Penalties: Number-Yards     2-19  7-61

Good luck Carleton...though I'd rather see SJU hand you your heads.

Also, another good game for Cory Johnson...155 yards again today. Still don't know why we went away from him again.

AO

let's just compare the attendance at Bethel then, clearly there would have been more SJU fans in attendance this year if the Johnnies had not dropped a game the week before.  I assume that those fans will be more likely to attend the game against Carleton, than they would have if Concordia had clinched the MIAC crown a week ago.

I will agree with that, especially with the economy this year, traveling is more difficult to justify.

stanbob

Well lets figure this one out, travel to a game with no playoff implicatons and sit for three hours in freezing temperatures or travel to a game with the conference championship and AQ up for grabs.  Good call AO you are right, more people will likely be at the game this week.    ???
Everyday is payday in paradise.

now, just add the word bandwagon to it, it's really not that difficult or shameful to say.   gas is 1.97, no excuse there.

snoop dawg

Congrats to the johnnies on the W.  Good luck next week.

I think for those fans who travel and can't make every game, Bethel would be the logical one to skip, since the visitor seating is so bad and there have not been adequate facilities in the past.  This year, with some improvements and the reduced fan number there were no long lines at outhouses and concessions.  Although I think it is true that more fans would have been willing to deal with the expected discomforts if we had a typical team.

The bandwagon can now be parked since our destiny is back in our own hands. ;D

The bandwagon is clearly parked and getting shined up in Northfield. It's ready for the Hot Carls to take out for a test drive.

GREAT game in Northfield.  Oles win in 2OTs.  D-line was outstanding today.  Nick Tolen is a scary man.  He manhandled GAC's guards and centers.  I was incredibly frustrated with the officiating today.  A DB for gac pushes a st olaf receiver out of the way and turns around for the interception, no call.  The officials called st olaf for defensive pass interference while the defender is holding his arms out to the side with open arms, their legs were about to tangle, and they fell over.  Clearly unintentional.  St. Olaf outplayed GAC in my opinion, and came away with a great win.  Haberman is much improved at this point in the season.

attendance last year at Carleton vs. the Johnnies: 1027
SJU attendance is down by an average of a little more than a 1000 in home games from 2007.  You've still got the most fans in the MIAC, but the numbers are clearly down.   you've found your quarterback in boyle, and you're playing for the championship on Saturday.  I don't know if "johnnie magic" really describes a move from 1-2 to potential champion, i'd say..........lucky.

That can be explained almost entirely by the weather.  Whether you think St. John's fans are loyal or just jackasses, they like to enjoy their football on warm, dry fall afternoons just like everyone else.  In 2007, not only did the Johnnies have the majority of their big games at home, they also had nice weather for all the regular season games.  The 2008 UW-River Falls and Augsburg games were played in pretty brutal weather conditions.  The 2007 Carleton game was against a crappy team in crappier weather.

I think TC will tell you the bandwagon is with Carleton. ;)

Let's get this party started!!!  Go Knights!!!

Already planning your excuse for why you won't be at next week's title bout?

Fun game today, though it was strange to be scoreboard watching listening at a Johnnie game.  It was a game that seemed to be teetering between a Monkey Stomp and a close game for most of the second half.  Busack's touchdown grab was Elliottesque and Winford's a stud--he made some ridiculous catches too.  Berg's arm is as strong as advertised but his accuracy wasn't anything special in the second half.

Clark Jr. played huge, had to be the star of the game.  Now that he's finally seeing the field regularly it will be hard to keep this Johnnie team out of the Stagg Bowl.  Can the kid play quarterback?

TC and TDT stopped for a pizza on the way home.  The friendly young server wasn't the most intelligent person in the place.  She took a while to bring back our change and TDT, of all people, opined that she was probably confused by such large numbers.  She was supposed to bring us $11.53 back.  When I opened up the little folder it contained, right on cue, $6.03 and a large foreign coin.  It's been a long time since I've laughed so hard.

You likely won't be hearing from Veek for a few days because he took his family to the waterpark right after the game.

Go Johnnies!  Go Knights!

The Pipers take out their frustrations of a season of coulda-beens on the Scots.  Pipers win in a double monkeystomp, 52 - 7.

The Oles had better be on their toes next week or there could be big trouble in little China.

Wow AO; It's great that you continually present the Johnnies as the gold standard to which all others are compared.  We do take our work seriously.

It'll also be interesting to see how many folks the Knights fill the stands with next week, after all, it is for all the marbles.
