Retagent-what a goal by Semin yesterday. He must have been working on that in practice! ;D

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

how about those packers Buckeye?   You gotta love seeing Farve and the Jets at 6-3 while Rodgers gives up two safeties as the pack drop below .500.   another crazy game for the vikes.

There's no way Carleton is the favorite on Saturday.  You don't beat the Johnnies by looking good on paper.  Of course, I wanted to say the same thing about the cobbs....

CobberFvr

Crosby is so reliable...but somehow before the snap I knew he'd miss.

Oh well.

RE: PRF07 - Does anyone really think SJU would be the favorite next week?

Seems like the Johnnie's qb is coming around.... Just looking at stats he seems to be pretty mobile being that he had a good rushing game against the Auggies.

PRF;  What you have said has just made everyone in the room, well... let's just say it's the understatment of the year.

The Johnnies got 25 votes in the d3football.com Top 25 and the Knights got 20.  I reckon the winner finishes the season ranked 24th or 25th.  Oh, and in the playoffs, of course.

bennie - I did see the game, and Semin's goal. Since there was no Washington broadcast, I had to watch, and listen to Micheletti and Sam Rosen(as you would have too if you watched the game) I thought they would never see what happened on the first two goals so they could quit whining. The second with the goal "still attached" was a question I had. I thought that Gordon had knocked it off when I initially saw it. They were clueless, and when it went to a review, it took them another three replays to see what the question was. Then when they got the rule, they misinterpreted what it said. I thought that New York would have better crews. On Semin's goal, they were questioning why he did it. I didn't think he had anything to lose. They had been out on the PK for a while, and were getting tired. I'm sure he wasn't trying to score. If he missed the net, they call their time out, get some wind, and settle down for the last 20 seconds.

I was flipping between the Jackets and the Caps so I wasn't exposed to the Ranger announce team for long. It must be something about NYC! The only announce team on my "Kick in the Shins and Run" list is the NY Islander's team. When the Jackets played them last week and came back from 3-0 to force overtime, the NYI announcers kept making comment about how it was one thing for the Islanders to have done that with the Habs, but what were they thinking letting a team like the Jackets score and get back in the game. They apparently haven't checked the standings. When your team is in 29th place out of 30 teams (and the BJ's are NOT 30th), I am not sure you are in any position to dis the competition!

GREAT game in Northfield.  Oles win in 2OTs.  D-line was outstanding today.  Nick Tolen is a scary man.  He manhandled GAC's guards and centers.  I was incredibly frustrated with the officiating today.  A DB for gac pushes a st olaf receiver out of the way and turns around for the interception, no call.  The officials called st olaf for defensive pass interference while the defender is holding his arms out to the side with open arms, their legs were about to tangle, and they fell over.  Clearly unintentional.  St. Olaf outplayed GAC in my opinion, and came away with a great win.  Haberman is much improved at this point in the season.

I wasn't at the game, but this seems a little much. The Gusties controlled the clock (31:30-28:30), were outgained just 342-334 and had identical first downs.

What's that leave? Turnovers. Gustavus had 3 to Olaf's 2...but two of GAC's came on picks in the end zone. Those are killers.

Were the Oles a better team? Perhaps...but the numbers would seem to suggest an even game across the board. And it would be easy to argue that GAC mistakes at crucial times were the difference, though the Oles obviously played a part in that, I'm sure.

I'm not so much upset we lost...I'm upset that Schoeny's last game is now meaningless because both the Cobbers and Gusties choked. It could have been a spectacular finish.

It was one of those games where there was never a doubt in my mind that my team was going to win.  From my perspective they seemed to play with more intensity.  That was the way that the oles controlled the game in my opinion.

Also, saying that someone's mistakes are the reason that they lost the game is like saying that the team that scores the most points is going to win the game.  Most TD's are the result of mistakes by one team.

I feel dumber than usual after reading that. Good grief.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Touchdown Tommy

Just 1 thing tonite.  The hit by #13 where he bulldozed the "blocking/chipping" RB on Auggie Tech's 1st drive was one of the sickest hits I've ever seen in Collegeville.  Man that was a thing of beauty.  Love the energy and tenacity we saw from him all day long.  Clark Jr. (TC preferred moniker) is here to stay and had a helluva game Saturday...

So you're saying that despite the ToP being nearly equal, yards are almost identical, first downs are the same and the game goes to double overtime...you were completely confident the Oles were better from the opening snap based on their intensity?

I'll gladly congratulate you on a big win, but please read that again and try to understand how ridiculous it sounds.

I see that Jordan threw 2 pics while Boyle threw one.  Was that the difference in the game? I know it was knotted at 7s going into half, so it seems, just by that, that it was a fairly even day yesterday. However, being -1 in the turnover category can often spell disaster when playing a solid team like St. Johns.  Was that the case yesterday?

LAB

LAB,

All 3 picks were converted into points, so yes the -1 did hurt the Auggies. The wind was a factor, but I really think the new look Johnnie defense had more of a factor than the wind IMHO

Lots of posts about the Johnnie D and they deserve them.  Lots of posts about the wind, it was brutel.  The real performer in Saturdays game was Russell Gliadon.  Play back the Augsburg punts into the wind and then Russells.  Without looking up the stats the Johnnie punting game was marvelous.  When you force Air Auggie to make lenghty drives on almost every series the Johnnie defense will get the stop.

TDT,

How about during the return of Stifter's pick when #13 launched Winford two rows into the SJU sideline  ;D

Except for his 8 yard punt on 4th-and-5 from the Augsburg 43 in the second quarter, right?  I mean, that kick wasn't THAT sweet.

How do you know Jimmy & Co. have no faith in Boyle?  They didn't go for it on that 4th down.  When has that situation ever NOT been 4 down territory for the Johnnies?

To answer your earlier question, LAB, I don't think Berg's picks were the difference in the game.  While the first half was certainly even, it felt like the Johnnies were about to assert their dominance a couple of times in the second half.  But every time they went up by a couple of scores and had momentum the Auggies (well, Berg and especially Winford) would answer with a big play.  The flip side to being aggressive and taking chances, especially against a good defense like St. John's, is there are going to be some mistakes and turnovers.  The Auggies were good enough to keep the game reasonably close, but they never seriously threatened in the second half.
