Whew.  I cannot believe the Johnnies are in a position to win the MIAC this year.  This season has been a crazy ride, for sure.

I am terrified of the Knights.  They's given us fits the past few years, and that was when they were a below average team.  I think the Johnnies will get a tough game.  Should be a doozy.  Pretty neat when it all comes down to the last game, though!
Do you think we'll stay with the 3-4 next week?

If they insist on calling Stanton a defensive end in their new scheme, wouldn't it technically be a 4-3 that they primarily ran on Saturday?  It looked like #13 spent about an equal amount of time in coverage and in the backfield--it was almost a 3-3-5 stack with an extra strong safety in the game.  I guess the name doesn't matter so much as the results and I think they'll have a hard time getting Stanton off the field at this point.

Hey Duff, you think you can just saunter back on the bandwagon or what?

Should be an interesting game at Carleton...anyone know what the field is like?

If the Tommie SID keeps writing his blog in gray on purple, no one is going to be able to read it anyway.  Pot shot away, Gene! 8)

looks like the Johnnies and Carlies aren't the only ones playing for a championship on Saturday according to the St. Thomas S.I.D.  The Ramsey County Title is up for grabs at Reynolds field on Saturday after the Tommies eliminated Bethel from contention.  This and a terrific potshot at the johnnies can be found at  http://www.tommiesports.com/ftbl/news/Blog21_11-9.html

Well, the Tommies are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their last outright Minnesota championship, and 18 years since they shared a title in Minnesota, but hey, it has been only four years since the Tommies won the Ramsey County crown, so celebrate what you can get-- and even then, I would imagine the coaching staff at Concordia-St. Paul may have something to say about the mythical title.  Has Northwestern ever won a Ramsey County crown?  I can only imagine the buzz on Lydia and Snelling about the possibility of winning a non-UMAC or non-NCCAA honor!

And while I appreciate Gene's humor, he is dead wrong on two counts:  1.)  the Tommies beat the Johnnies in 1990 25-14 at UST, so his stat is off (but given that it has been so long since the Toms did end up in the winner's column against the Johnnies, the mistake, I am sure, is inadvertent); and 2.) the Johnnies have been running up the score since way before 1990.  You would have thought we had all the tradition and success of Bethel if we've only been running it up since 1990!  ;D
Northwestern holds a 15-10 series lead over concordia st. paul.  They jumped ship and moved to D-II, without logically thinking that they would have no claim for the Ramsey county title if they did so while still behind in the Northwestern series.  and no, I can't say Northwestern has held the ramsey county title before as the Eagles haven't played the tommies in football before.  We're always perennial contenders in various sports in the snelling ave. shootout though (bethel, ham and mac).

So when did the Johnnies officially start running up the score then?

Well that explains the hallucinations the author must have been experiencing when he wrote the "For Recruits" section of the Carleton website.

Right, so St. Cloud State can't compete for the Stearns County title because they are D-II?  Jeez, somebody better tell them differently.  They are still trying to compare themselves to SJU-- you would have thought someone would have informed the Huskies that they can't compete because they are D-2.  Same goes for Moorhead State, who always seems to struggle to beat Concordia-Moorhead.  But because Concordia-St. Paul is D-2, they can't compete anymore for the Ramsey County crown?

By the way, the answer to your question is 1921-- SJU 28, St. Cloud State 0.   Come to think of it, the Johnnies have run up the score against SCSU a lot, including a 50-0 drubbing in 1960 and a 42-7 monkeystomp in 1973.  And before you start talking about how that is ancient history, remember that SJU won 9 of the last 10 against the Huskies.

Not sure, most of the games played there this year have been in good weather so the field looked to be in decent shape the last time I was down there (a few weeks ago), but I don't know if it got torn up in the Hamline game.  A lot will come down to whether the ground is frozen or not, as a frozen field provides much less traction.  Not sure how much of a role the field itself will play in it, but the advantage probably goes to Carleton being they play on the surface on a regular basis.

I'm predicting another shootout type game as that seems to be the way all of the Knights games of late are.  The Knights have been giving up a lot of yards on the ground the last couple weeks and the defense makes me nervous at times.  They do have a couple playmakers on D, and come up with some timely big plays.  The big matchup in my opinion is whether the stout Johnnie D can slow down / stop the Knight's offense.  The knights have been putting up big numbers on O, and have experienced skill players, especially at QB.  Ramler always seems to have amazing gameplans against the Johnnies as well.  It should be an excellent game, quite exciting for us Carleton fans to actually be in a final game that means something.

The Johnnies have never "ran up the score". It is just that at times they have been able to score at will while playing everyone on the sideline including the waterboy and the athletic trainers. Even the Tommie SID admits that it was the 11th and 12th string guys. Sheesh! Don't be such a hater.  8)

SJU uses the term "plus" to describe that position, as in "Stanton is the plus guy."  It's kind of a SS/LB/DE hybrid.

I'm confused if I should be on the bandwagon or not.  If you're asking if I will be at the game, then no.  SJU's been winning with me listening to the radio, so I am hoping to keep the streak alive.

Bennie:  I thought esq had answered the question pretty well, but as long as you're questioning my motives I might as well point out that I had no problem with  Wayzata 38 - Tech 0.  Do we have any Tech grads on here?  I thought duff maybe was?  there sure were some unhappy tiger fans posting comments on the Times recap of the game.  especially regarding a certain hit a certain linebacker I know pretty well put on a mr. kaczor.

What is the series with SCSU at?  The Johnnies probably deserve the mythical stearns title based on the last 10 and a better winning percentage in most every season.

The cobbs definitely deserve the moorhead crown after their recent dominance forced the dragons to stop playing that game.
