Your praise of Arlt reminds me of praise for Ryan Hoag...yea nice receiver, but when faced with playing the best team in the conference he didn't do much.  I am surprised that you left Fritz W. out...that guy scares me more than Arlt, or Hameed.  Carleton has great WR's and running QB's have given SJU fits...

What? Where is this coming from? Were you even at the game when GAC played SJU?

He went for 141 and a touchdown on seven receptions in eight passes thrown his way...and your fellow SJU posters were wondering why the Gusties didn't throw to him more. He was basically uncoverable by a very good Johnnie defense.

I understand the Hoag argument, but I'm not sure how you can even begin to try to apply it here.

Willy...I was at the game...I guess I had forgotten about his great day, I will say that he made some good adjustments on some under thrown footballs, and really the game was not in doubt, as the Johnnies O showed signs of life.  He was solid no doubt.

I've got a preview of the Knights up on JohnnieFootball.com for anyone that is too busy to comb over their stats.  Nothing ground-breaking  ::)

Alrt had a decent game vs. SJU this year.  Last year, he was a non-factor.

A tradition unrivaled...

Knight--this is Division III football and as a result playoff games through the Stagg Bowl often overlap with finals.  Your squad would hardly be the first one that has had to crack the books while preparing for playoff games.

Knight's point was that Carleton actually has finals next saturday and sunday.  I don't believe that many schools do that.  Not the fact that they would have to study for finals like every other school in America.  I think that point was obvious and therefore uncommented on by Knight.

Think about what VOJ might stand for.

VOJ... VOJ...

Very Ornery Johnnie?

Voluptuous Onion Jockey?

Vaseline Option Junkie?

Nope, I can't figure it out. ;)

OZ...+K for the post...if you talk to my cohorts I am at times Giddy VOJ, or positive VOJ, or negative VOJ depending on what is happening on the field, I have to admit I have never been referred to a Voluptuous, but I love Onions, except dry onion, it upsets my stomach...and I have NEVER used vaseline and never will.   ;D :o

Janesvilleflash at the plate, it's a hanging slider right down the middle........and he takes it.

Tmerton;  Speaking of jumping on board will you be boarding the big bird for Northfield Saturday?   ???

No. :(  We'll see about the playoffs if that happens, but for this one we'll have to rely on you and others to serve in loco parentis.  We'll be watching courtesy of the Carleton streaming video and listening to Johnnie broadcast.

Touchdown Tommy

Closed Circuit to the Little Wiener Doggie:  Will you be in attendance in Northfield on Saturday?  I understand that the MN Arts and Crafts Festival Circuit is especially heavy this time of year, however, you do realize that your beloved Johnnies are playing for the MIAC Championship.  Please advise.

Time for ROLL CALL.  Who will be making the trip to Carleton/The Rube??

ROR--You old dog.  Don't tempt the devil (Wonka) into upsetting my slumber.  He'll do it at any hour of the night...

Any predictions for the attendance at Laird Stadium on Saturday?
Will it be filled?

It's a pretty large stadium and I have yet to see it filled, but Saturday would be as good a chance as any.  I have a feeling with the way the Johnnie fans travel and the magnitude of the game it should be pretty packed.  The Carleton student body is at times appathetic towards its athletic teams, but when teams do well students and even people from Northfield will come to games.  The basketball teams were good when I was in school and the tournament / playoff games were absolutely packed and rowdy.  Crowds this year have started to get bigger due to the success of the team, and the school itself has made an effort to get people out to the football game (and soccer playoff games) as I've already received multiple emails about the games.  I know I have other alum friends that will be there for the game from out of state and even out of country.  Should be a great game and day, and unlike anywhere else in the MIAC admission is free.

SUMMIT!!!!!

not football but a few questions for the baseball experts/geniuses on here, whether  they are real gurus (TC), borderline (Fins) or self-annointed (TDT):

1) Should the Twins persue Blake? I mean, the dude has been solid for a few years but he is
35. Wouldnt signing him potentially be a "redo" of the Batista/Lamb/etc moves that screw up the team year after year?

2) TC, you've made your opinion known about Atkins, and you've persuaded me he's not the right man for 3B. What about Kouzmanoff? Or do we go after Blake? or do we muddle through with a platoon of Buscher/Harris?

3) What's your feeling about trading for Hardy? He has marginal power but that is still more than anything we've had at either middle infield position in decades. Decent average, too.

3A)  What about Y Escobar assuming Atl is willing to part with him?

3AA) if they do make a trade for Hardy or Escobar, does that mean its the end of the Punto era (and I can buy some champange)? Or would the Twins be wiser to sign Punto and cut Harris?

I wouldn't blame Carleton administration for charging admission for this one.  At 5 bucks a pop it could be worth about $25-30k.  That would be a nice boost to their athletic budget!

That would be a nice revenue boost, but it won't happen as it goes against the principals of the institution.  The only time they charge admission is when it is mandated by the NCAA for playoff games.  It's been that way as far back as I can recall, and is true for all athletic events.  Who knows though, with the economy the way it is lately it has to be hurting the endowment so maybe we'll see a change in the future, but I doubt it.  Just remember to buy some concessions at the game with the money you'll save and support the C-Club and Carleton athletics.

have them stock the concession cart with Hamms and you might be able to cut tuition in half after this game  :)

How great would that be.  Carleton is a wet campus...although I'm pretty sure the reason they don't sell alcohol is more of an NCAA / insurance / liability thing.  If I recall I believe no alcohol is allowed at athletic events, although that wasn't heavily inforced during my years there...foamy beer in a see through Nalgene bottle is not that sneaky.

I'm no expert,he was one hell of a football palyer and I'm sure he could pick up the baseball thing without much effort. I'm sure all SJU fans would agree that Blake would be a great addition to any team  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

BTW--I am on business in Portland this week and would encourage the fans of teams headed this direction for the playoffs to load up on the GoreTex gear.  The constant rain has lead to severe flooding with Noah parked right around the corner.

And just think, only 7 more months of it until sunny summer! ;) One thing I do miss about Minnesota is seeing blue skies in the winter. Doesn't happen much here. :'(
