in loco parentis

Crazy parents? ;) We have plenty of them around! One of my favorite terms is "helicopter parents"... because they hover! When our freshmen come to summer orientation (called IntroDucktion  ::)), they have had to ban the parents from the computer lab where the students go online to register (after meeting with an academic advisor). They then had to put paper over the windows to the room because parents would stand outside and try to see what their child was registering for and signal things to them. Just insane! 8)

Oh, and while I didn't take Latin, I do know what in loco parentis actually means! ;)

High sticking, tripping, slashing, spearing, charging, hooking, fighting, unsportsmanlike conduct, interference, roughing... everything else is just figure skating.  ~Author Unknown

Buckwheat - You already knew that I wouldn't be in attendance for the tilt in Northfield but I will be listening to VOJ and the crew.  Keep trying to stir the pot, though.  I know you love to do it.

Go Johnnies!!  Bring back another conference championship.
Go Johnnies!!!

Not having met VOJ or many of the other Johnnie faithful I would guess that VOJ is

voice of (the) Johnnies.

Good Luck to the Johnnies and Carleton on the big game.  One of you will be in the playoffs and my team will be sitting home.

In the case of our SJU gang, some are more loco than parentis, but it is what it is. ;)

"IntroDucktion" - I like it.  Not that Donald ever seemed overly educated, though. :D

snoop dawg

Good Luck to the johnnies this weekend.  If you johnnie fans end up out at Oxy for the first round, you will really enjoy some great weather.

not football but a few questions for the baseball experts/geniuses on here, whether  they are real gurus (TC), borderline (Fins) or self-annointed (TDT):

1) Should the Twins persue Blake? I mean, the dude has been solid for a few years but he is
35. Wouldnt signing him potentially be a "redo" of the Batista/Lamb/etc moves that screw up the team year after year?

2) TC, you've made your opinion known about Atkins, and you've persuaded me he's not the right man for 3B. What about Kouzmanoff? Or do we go after Blake? or do we muddle through with a platoon of Buscher/Harris?

3) What's your feeling about trading for Hardy? He has marginal power but that is still more than anything we've had at either middle infield position in decades. Decent average, too.

3A)  What about Y Escobar assuming Atl is willing to part with him?

3AA) if they do make a trade for Hardy or Escobar, does that mean its the end of the Punto era (and I can buy some champange)? Or would the Twins be wiser to sign Punto and cut Harris?

1.  I think Blake would be much better than Bautista etc.  If they can get him cheap (maybe $10M per year) Id pull the trigger.
2. Kouzmanoff would be an attractive option, I dont believe he is a FA and although SD is in extreme sell mode he might cost a significant prospect or even a Blackburn/perkidns.
3.Hardy is good and would most likely cost as much or more than kouzmnaoff in prospects, escobar may be gone to SD in Peavy trade if Braves can work it out, he is certainly highly valued.

Hope that helps, see www.mlbtraderumors.com for great info...

Closed Circuit to the Little Wiener Doggie:  Will you be in attendance in Northfield on Saturday?  I understand that the MN Arts and Crafts Festival Circuit is especially heavy this time of year, however, you do realize that your beloved Johnnies are playing for the MIAC Championship.  Please advise.

Time for ROLL CALL.  Who will be making the trip to Carleton/The Rube??

ROR--You old dog.  Don't tempt the devil (Wonka) into upsetting my slumber.  He'll do it at any hour of the night...

TDT,

Do you post anything other than Closed Circuit messages?  Did you know you can send a personal message to people?  Or did that option get taken away from you when you were banned from the board for a year?

Knight--this is Division III football and as a result playoff games through the Stagg Bowl often overlap with finals.  Your squad would hardly be the first one that has had to crack the books while preparing for playoff games.

Wonka--many of us at the GAC game would concur with VOJ's assessment of Arlt.  His stats for the game don't show the complete picture of his impact on the game; which was not much.  He was irrelevent for the majority of the game.

AO--you could be responsible for world peace and members of this board would still hit your karma because you come across as the kid that was never given enough credit for pooping like a big boy.  Go back to your game of Dungeons and Dragons.

BTW--I am on business in Portland this week and would encourage the fans of teams headed this direction for the playoffs to load up on the GoreTex gear.  The constant rain has lead to severe flooding with Noah parked right around the corner.

You used this same analogy last year and it still stinks.  If I remember correctly it was your team that took the sh*t last year.   :o

Does anyone else think it will be really funny if NWC makes the playoffs and SJU doesn't? Or better yet if they beat SJU in the playoffs.  I may be dreaming but on boring days at a racetrack like today thats about I can do.

Those grapes taste twice as nice when they are really sour, don't they?  Why don't you tell us if it's funny that NWC is still in with a chance at the playoffs while the BU players are busy planning Thanksgiving weekend shopping...  :o

EDIT: Now I see why you have so many.  They're going extra cheap...

It's not quite as funny because of the beating AO takes and his team is doing quite well now.  You have to admit SJU is very close to starting the same shopping list... :)

I suspect you're saying we should be reasonable and consistent in our assessment of teams and their supporters.

As if.   ::)

Vomit On Jimmy?

Which Blake are we talking about? Both Rob and Jason are a bit long in the tooth, but bringing back Jason to Minnesota would be a nice touch.     ;D
