See my response to Greg above.  Sorry I couldn't drive 75 mph on I-80 and spell check to meet your collective high standards.

By the way, the jousters that Roop and I met in the Darby auxiliary gym Saturday a.m.  brought on other thoughts.  I couldn't figure out the jousting "system" as there appeared to be some effort to win, but an equal effort to not piss off the opponent.  That was missing in the "Performance Gym" that afternoon.  Maybe the two GC teams and their fans (yes, they both have them) could meet and share some notes.  They may both be better off.

Were these "jousters" extras in the movie Role Models?  Perhaps McLovin was in there fighting with Glee Glop and the Flippidydoos.

Time to make my case for Grotberg for POY:

#1 on Grinnell team at 31.1 ppg in 25 minutes per game
#1 on Grinnell team for offensive (49) and defensive (68) rebounds
#1 on Grinnell team for steals (83)

I'm not sure, but in my book that's a complete player.  It's as much a complete player as you could have in the conference: clearly my apologies go to some other very deserving players including Kroeger and Hoch.

Inside scoop. LU got screwed in two ways today. The bracket of death, and all conference selections. When you see those selections tomorrow youll see what im talking about. Bad news for you gcfan33, bad news.

Scrub023-are you saying neither Kroeger nor Grotberg won POY? If that happens I might start boozin' again.

Grotberg was only the highest scorer in Grinnell and MWC history.  Let's use some jeffp logic, coaches. Grotty Grotty Grotty.

Come on GrinnellFan68, I understand that he is the highest scoring player in Grinnell and MWC history. I know he is a good player. But using his ppg or spg is wrong since those stats are skewed. Did you guys mention shots per game? FG %? No, you dont, and to use his ppg as a reason for POY does not work if the system does not work. Bad news for you as well. Bad News.

Probably Hoch.  LU probably gets screwed by getting only Kroeger on the first team.  Coach of the year is always a crap shoot, I'll go out slightly and say Grezek gets it, just due to SNC's move up the standings..(even though they tanked hard core in the end)

The Roop

SNC may have won more games this year but 4th place two years in a row isn't really moving up.

The COY is hard to project because you never know what motivates the other coaches. Personally, I'd think DePagter deserves it for the way he had his team at peak performance at the end of the year. They were 10-6 before they ended the year with 9 straight. That's an indication of senior leadership and coaching leadership. I'd say he deserves it.

I agree..howveer we all know that who generally deserves it generally does not get it like last year. I would say DePagter had better credentials last year, but they gave it in a lifetime achievement award status last year....

Yup, and I, for one, hope they considered the lifetime achievement for POY this year.  ;)

Ticket information not annoucned yet, but as we all thought LU and Wash U will play at 6 pm Friday night.  The winner of that game will play against the winner of UW-Whitewater and Elmhurst at 7 pm Saturday night.

Its going to be one hell of a pod.  Wish I could be there, but I'll be in St. Paul for Cornell/ UWSP + Aurora/ St. Thomas

Tough year for the WIAC...the conference only combined for six total NCAA bids in boys and girls basketball. ::)

As they did during the football playoffs, I hope the Whitewater fans can come to our message board and remind us that the WIAC and MWC are on the same plain athletically and that with Monmouth's new facility, they will be beating the Warhawks in football any day now. ;)
