Incase anyone wants an LU blast from the past...which I'm pretty sure excludes systemfan as he seems to not be a big fan of LU at the moment  ;)

Found this dinking around on the net....really bored at work

Great fight in the final of the Coupe de Luxembourg between Nelson Delgado (l., Etzella) and Chris Braier (Musel Pikes
By the way, why am I not surprised that the extension for the website is .lu?  You guys are really taking this too far! :D

Great to see the Bopper again. Glad to see he's still playing. Bet you all wish you had him again this weekend!

LOL I laughed at that when I saw it too.  I guess you just need a Grinnell player to make it big in Greece and you can have the same thing!

Some observations on the Midwest Conference Tournament at Grinnell. First of all, I thought Grinnell did a nice job hosting. There were enthusiastic crowds and things went very smoothly. As for the championship game, the two best teams got there, Grinnell and Lawrence. In the title game on that day, Lawrence was the better team. They won because 1.They played tough physical defense. 2. Grinnell shot poorly helped by Lawrence hitting Grinnell's 3 pt. shooters arms and getting away with vitually no foul calls. 3. Lawrence shot 58 free throws and made 46 of them. Grinnell only shot 20 or so free throws. 4.Lawrence decisively out rebounded Grinnell. 5. Dave Arseneault got hurt in practice and could not play. If Arseneault had played I believe it would have been a victory for Grinnell in a very close game. It is indeed unfortunate that Grinnell had to play at less than full strength. It would have been a great game to see if Arseneault could have played. However, Lawrence are champs and deserve a lot of credit for their great play and their strong finish. I am rooting for them against Wash U. A very tough first game but I believe Lawrence will represent the MWC well.

As for the All Conference selections, I agree with other posters that Long should have been First Team All Conference. Gillespie is an excellent player but did not have the year that Long had. My first team would be Hoch, Grotberg, Kroeger, Long and Horton.
My second team would be Arseneault, Fleischmann, Gillingham,  Gillespie, Katzfey, and Ladwig.  Honorable mention would be Page, Aplegren, Zimmerman, Kadison, and Dekker.

I think Arseneault and DePagter as Co Coaches of the Year was the right recognition. As for Player of the Year, I believe John Hoch deserved it most. Without him, Carroll was just an ordinary team. He made that team go.

Next year will be wide open in the MWC because of all the graduating seniors. I believe Ripon will be a team to watch out for. Should be interesting to see who finishes in the top 4 positions.

sour grapes.

A grinnell fan can never complain about calls in any gym named darby.

How do you expect to shoot many free throws when you shoot a million 3s every game?

IM NOT ALONE! YES!

You can say all you want that LU players hit GC shooters arms all night, but then I can say GC players hacked everytime LU tried to bring the ball up the court. To be honest, I think GC plays better without Arsenault at some points. They move faster up and down the court without him. Yes, he avgs. 10 apg, but I have heard that many of those assists come from nowhere  ::) , or other players  :) . ONWARD LU!

Bobby Long not making 1st team over Andy Horton and his stellar 2-14 record was a joke. 2-14. Ridiculous. That'd be like me naming Edith wife of the year after she slept with the gardener a couple years back. Cmon! Bobby Long was the toughest cover in the conference!

Also, this is controversial, but Mike Worrell is the COY every year. You try to recruit people to Jacksonville. I go down to visit my granddaughters and have to hold my nose all weekend.

And Scrub, you saying Grinnell might be better off without David A jr is laughable...I'm laughing right now. Really hard. Laughter. Chuckles.

Love you schnookums.

Lets lay off Davey for a while. 1. he doesn't tell the scorers what his stats should be and 2. he's not the "coaches son" that everybody insinuates. Grinnell fans excepted of course. I finally got to meet him at the tournament and can think of only positives about the experience. Almost makes me feel bad for yelling "Noonan" while his sister was shooting free throws with him before the game Saturday.

Do they beat LU if they have him ?? Not sure but I have touched on this before. LU didn't have their best game so you never know. Grinnell simply didn't shoot very well after they cut it to 10. That was the turning point. Grotberg and Long certainly wouldn't have had to work as hard as they did if Davey was in the lineup. So instead of worrying about the All Conference picks, and the what the selections should have been, lets stuff the Ballot Box for him and see if he gets the Bob Cousey Award. He's only 1 of 2 D3ers nominated so a little unity for a change would be nice.

Doesn't work exactly - there is no .gc top-level domain - but Greece (.gr) comes the closest and has pro basketball. I think if Grotberg or Long wanted to try, they might have a shot at playing overseas, given that they are shooters. Maybe.

But I think Greece is considered one of the better European leagues. So they might have to start in a Cuban league (.cu) and work their way up through the Luxembourg league (.lu) before they get to the more premier Greek league.  ;D

What about Germany...............
Very cool.

But having never taken German, I can't figure out how to pronounce 'SpVgg'

Davey has a couple offers to consider next year. One is joining Chamberlains team in Germany; which is running The System. (hence my new tag line) The other would put me on double secret probation if I revealed it.

You truly are an @$$ aren't you Grinnellfan86. Take what I say in the worst way, every time. I just said that I thought at SOME points, Grinnell may have played a little faster than usual, which I consider a good thing for Grinnell. I really don't know if you have the respect of any one in here, but you really don't have mine. Personal insults over little topics about the MWC, come on Grinnellfan86, calm yourself, no need to get so worked up and act like am @$$. You say that I give LU fans a bad name and your truly just as bad as me. I'm done bickering and arguing with you, and I think I'll just sit back and let veterans who truly understand basketball take over. You can sit out as well.

Please don't misunderstand me. It is not sour grapes.  Lawrence played very well in the conference tournament and deserved to win. I believe their tough physical defense was key to their victory. However, I am sure part of their strategy was to be physical with Grotberg and Long when they attempted 3 point shots. They consistently bumped the shooters and hit their arms when they shot. A good strategy if it works. And it did because the officials missed those calls. Grinnell fouls a lot. I will admit that. But so does Lawrence. In the Grinnell's 101-100 victory at Lawrence, the Vikings shot 41 free throws. Grinnell shot 26 with only 4 in the first half. I was at that game and Lawence got away with a lot of fouls. In the title game, Lawrence shot 58 free throws, Grinnell shot only 20. Quite a discrepancy.  Lawrence fouled a lot more than the 20 they were called for. So, Lawrence fans don't complain about officiating, You did pretty well in that area.   I do believe if that if Grinnell had a healthy Dave Arseneault, the title game would have been a toss up. Losing him, made it a lot easier for Lawrence to defend Grotberg and Long. If you take 16 pts and 10 assists out of the lineup it is going to make it a lot tougher for Grinnell. I only wish that Grinnell had been a full strength against Lawrence. It would made for a great game that could have gone either way. But that is all wishful thinking. I wish Lawrence good luck and success against Wash U.  They have a very good team. I know they will represent the MWC well. A final comment to Lawrence fans...lighten up and be more humble. Your team is very good but so is Grinnell, Carroll and St Norbert. By the way, Grinnell beat you at Lawence twice in the last three years. Not bad.                     PS. The system is not evil. It is good for basketball and allows Grinnell to compete quite nicely against talented teams like Lawrence. Plus it is a lot of fun to watch.
