Having not made it to the LU game, I was just wondering how open this lay-up was that Lee missed with four seconds left?

It wasn't a "easy" layup. Rushing to the hoop from straight on with a defender riding his hip for most of the way. Probably felt rushed, and I think any one would if they had to be in that situation with only 9 seconds on the clock in that big of a game. It was the story of the night, missed layups are what really put LU away.

You mean free throws, right ?

That would be the story of the season....

Yes, that too. Free throws were another obvious reason, but I was just referring to the layup that someone had asked about earlier. I understand that free throws were questionably the biggest factor in the LU loss, but the fact that it really still came down to the last play and shot of the game which happened to be another missed layup really follows how the game seemed to be going.

Did Washington University really never get to the line in the first half of the UWW game?

I just heard this morning that Tim Heimann passed away, and I thought the board would want to know. Living near Galesburg, I've been able to read articles about him over the past few months, and it sounds like he really made an impact on the players he coached.

Condolences to the Heimann and Knox families....

Firestarter

I played for Coach Heimann for three years.  He was a great person that truly cared about everyone he met.  A sad day here at Knox College.

Scrub023

My heart goes out to the Heimann family and Knox community.

On a lighter note, Wash U. beat Wheaton tonight and will go on to play St.Thomas. Good to know that our MWC champions lost to an elite 8 team, possibly final 4 or champion in a thriller. Should be a great game to watch tomorrow night.

Washington U is also the defending national champions.  You've got that going for you.

If you are judging the success of Lawrence, based on who you were beaten by, it's not too bad.

I mean, look at Stevens Point first.

In 1997 Stevens Point lost to Nebraska Wesleyan and they ended up being runners-up.
In 2000 Stevens Point lost to Eau Claire on a 30-ft buzzer beater and they ended up losing in the Final
In 2003 Stevens Point lost to Gustavus Adolphus who would fall in the championship game
In 2007 Stevens Point would lose to Washington U, who then broke the string of losing to the runners-up by falling in the semis in Salem.  I think they would go on to win the consolation game though.

Three times in a row (when they got eliminated) they were beaten by the eventual Championship game losers.

Lawrence lost to Wabash in 1997, but they fell in the 2nd round
They lost to eventual national champions Stevens Point the following two times they made the NCAAs in 2004 and 2005.
In 2006, when they went undefeated, they lost to Illinois Wesleyan in the Sweet 16.  They would go on to lose in the semis in Salem
In 2008, LU lost to Wheaton in the first round and they would go onto the Elite 8
And who knows about this year.

The road to the D3 National Championship goes through Appleton.  Go Vikes.

Want to hazard a guess to which team on the women's side lost to the eventual champion game winners in 1994, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007?  In 1991, they lost the champion game losers.

Scrub023

It would seem, as of right now, that LU lost to the upcoming DIII champions.
