It's very uncommon for a player to transfer to another school within the same conference for obvious reasons.  I highly doubt he's looking at MWC schools.

What would those be?

So far I've seen one example listed of a transfer within the same conference.  I would call that uncommon.
As far as reasons for not transferring within the same conference, the main one that comes to mind is the rivalries in the MWC.  In such a classic conference with old universities, good rivalries have developed over time.  And with Hoch having been at Carroll for a couple years, he understands this and I'm sure he'd find it difficult to play against his old teammates.

According to WisHoops.net...Mark Miller wrote that the interviews are starting this week at Carroll. Does anyone know who is going to get an interview?

Wisconsin assistant coach Greg Gard watched the Wisconsin Swing-Selk squad and 6-4 guard Josh Gasser on at least two occasions at the Kentucky Hoopfest in Louisville ... Add Bradley, Loyola of Chicago and South Dakota State to the list of schools in hot pursuit of Merrill junior Paul Jesperson ... Hillsdale College in Michigan, a NCAA Division II school, recently offered a scholarship to De Pere senior Brandon Pritzl ... South Dakota is among a handful of NCAA Division I schools now showing strong interest in Racine St. Catherine's senior Steve McWhorter ... Interviews for the vacant coaching position at Carroll University are expected to take place next week ... The Milwaukee Spartans lost to All-Iowa Attack in the title game of the 17U Platinum Division at the NY2LA Sports Next Level Invitational earlier in the week. Madison Memorial senior Vander Blue had 33 points in the loss for the Spartans ... Jon Cathey-Macklin, an athletic 6-7 senior forward from Milwaukee Washington, is beginning to attract a lot of recruiting interest from scholarship schools ... Drake University is showing serious interest in Evan Richard, the 6-3 wing guard from Cuba City who will take part in the NY2LA Sports Summer Jam as a member of the Wisconsin Swing-Selk squad.

Somebody needs to improve on thier reading comprehension. Pat posted that its so common that the WIAC and the CCIW have rules on how it can occur.

I'm pretty sure there are some rivalries in the CCIW and the WIAC as well.  I really highly doubt rivalries are opn Hoch's mind as he is looking to transfer.  Oh no I want to go to Lawrence, but I can't because we have a rivalry and that would be too upsetting to people...better transfer to UW-Stout instead...

Naming names really isn't fair for a variety of reasons. Once the rosters come out you will know. For now I will say that it involves a move from a school on or near the Fox River to a school on or near the Rock River. Both cities also have minor league franchises.

Good thing you said this because there are three schools in the conference that are on or near the Fox River.

Last time I checked Grand Chute didn't have a MWC school in it.

Fair enough. Both "metropolitan areas" have minor league franchises.

Also see "on or near" previously mentioned rivers.

This subject came up at some point on CCIW Chat, and we collectively tried to name as many CCIW-to-CCIW transfers as we could. As I recall we came up with about a half-dozen, going back about thirty years, but that included sports other than men's basketball. That averages out to about one every five years (although, chronologically, most of them took place in the '80s and '90s), so you'll have to decide for yourself if one CCIW-to-CCIW transfer every five years qualifies as "very uncommon" or not. As Pat said, sufficient precedent has been set in the eyes of the administrations of the eight schools to lead them to design specific eligibility rules that address those intraleague transfers.

In Hochs case a transfer would be highly "uncommon" as he only has one year left. This isn't D1 after all. Possible options................ If he likes the new staff (when hired) he stays and plays. If not he stays and doesn't play. Third opton is to transfer within conference.

In writing most institutions require 50% of your credits to be earned at that school before they award a degree. However, there are a lot of <wink wink> unwritten policies within certain conferences. Especially when they think they are the Ivy League of D3.

A conference could decide athletic eligibility in a transfer situation (see CCIW & WIAC rules above), but I don't see how they could have any barring on credits or the graduation of a transfer student.

Evidence, please. I'm not aware of this being a requirement at most institutions.
