Travel alone makes it cost prohibitive, that's why it won't happen.

As I responded on the pigskin site, an ACM Confernce minus 42% of its memmbers is not an ACM Conference.

And as Dana Carvey once said, "Na Ga Da."
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

As I posted on the football board, remember the NAIA - D3 talks a couple months ago. That could throw a whole new aspect into this conversation.

It's basically just 7 Midwest Conference schools and Cornell...which was a Midwest Conference school.  Cornell seems to really want this to happen.  I'm not sure how much the other schools are interested.  I suppose Cornell could just try to rejoin the MWC and get it over with.

That's my point scottie and now you've scared them off.  :P

I was always told if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

You can only have so many morale victories.
There's only two things I can't stand in this world. Those who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch.

What we are not hearing is perhaps more intriguing/confusing than what makes the papers. I was hoping to hear from another source at an ACM member school but given the time that has passed and the fact that that particular school has chosen to stay put, I doubt I'll hear anything further.

So what I have heard is this. (Yes the source is reliable) There are aspects of this ACM proposal that could eliminate conference championships and post season NCAA play. Effectively turning every athletic program into an intramural. Sure it would count as a varsity game and teams would still travel, however, once the regular season is over that's all you get. Who would want to play or coach in a situation like that ??

I don't see how any progress is being made especially if those things come to pass. Nor do I like the idea of kicking three schools to the curb just because they aren't in the private club.

What would they really be saving by getting rid of conference championships and dropping out of post season play?  The NCAA Fees are the only thing I can think of which I believe is only a little over $1K per sport.  They still would have all the same operating expenses.  Plus if they ever want to go back into the NCAA they would have to start all over by paying the $20k application fee.

They could probably continue to be a part of the NCAA and just chose not to allow their teams to participate in the post season play. The NESCAC did this up until the 1990s and still hold this stance in football today. I don't know what the steps are to  gain the Pool A again when you have everything that is needed to gain one.

The part that surprises me about this is the lack of conference championships. I know it is a reason why Carleton made a brief departure from the conference back in the late 1930s or early 1940s. Their president at the time didn't want to have conference championship competition (probably because of the travel that would be involved. The conference at the time had no set scheduling and was little more than an alliance of schools who just so happened to schedule each other often).

Keep in mind that these are things that could happen, it doesn't mean that they will. The remaining 8 schools will continue to talk about it but since 6 of the 14 have already fallen by the wayside I don't think an ACM conference is going to happen.

I had heard something to the effect that they wanted it big enough so that they wouldn't have to schedule out-of-conference games.  Therefore every game they played would be against a team playing within the same set of rules.  If it is only 8 schools at this point, I wouldn't think that would be enough for them to move forward with the plan.

Beloit 91 Grinnell 90. Probably shouldn't have been this difficult but Beloit won the tip drill following a missed Grinnell 3 and held on for the win. Too many missed lay ups in the first half or it might have been over then and there

Greek Tragedy

Haven't been in the MWC page much at all, but apparently no one is running the pick em this year.

I didn't bother looking too much into it because I thought they didn't start the conference season until after the new year.  Am I wrong there?

Apparently Beloit got sick or moral victories.

Holding Grinnell to 22% from the 3pt line I am sure helped a little as well.   Judging by the stats appears Beloit kept with the winning formula against Grinnell.  Not getting caught up in taking 3pt baskets (0 attempted according to the stats).  Instead taking 2pt baskets and letting Grinnell air it out and hoping the averages will play out in your favor.

Don't want to get too excited Grinnell is only 1-5 on the year now, but is a good start for Beloit.

Anyone see the Illinois College Game?   They look to be better than advertised to start the year as well.
