Roop, Thanks for noting that CU shot 83% from the FT line while LFC shot 46% in a very close game. For what it's worth, I thought Carroll was a better team than their record indicated. (Is ANY team really better than it's record??)

Yea I'll eat the crow on this one.  I believe I indicated I thought rebounding would be a much bigger factor.  But even making half of their misses would have been the difference between a win and a loss.  Nice call on that Put up a #.  Very impressive.

So does anyone have a brief scouting report on St. Norbert's for Hope fans?

Shut down their inside game early and they tend to struggle. If one gets hot they wind up having two or three get hot. Outside shooting comes and goes so they generally don't rely on it. They will drain the 3 if you don't pay attention however.

I think so.  There are teams out there who really haven't played a tough schedule.  I'll take a pass on Norbert and mention Chapman for one... possibly Medaille, Cabrini etc.  Teams have gaudy records because they've played the regional equivalents of Milwaukee School of the Blind... and that's why other teams who HAVE played very good schedules but have lost some games find themselves ranked higher (or at all) in the top 25 poll.

When the rubber hits the road and the team with the gaudy record plays the team with more losses (but who is more seasoned), the seasoned team often comes out on top, because the other team wasn't as good as their record would suggest.

Congrats to St. Norbert for their first round win against Hope.

PC

Nice to see SNC get one win on both the women's and mens side after the fall AQs pretty much laid an egg.

The Roop

Points speed advantage got the best of SNC. Too many forced shots and empty possessions for the Knights coming down the stretch. Peterson was 3 for 5 from 3 but only played 25 minutes, I thought that was a little curious.

Carroll Head Coach Dave Buchanan appears to be picking up right where he left off at Superior in regards to putting together solid recruiting classes.

To date he has verbal committments from the #33 ranked player in the Class of 2010, Kevin Hurd, a 6'0 Guard from Portage, and the #42 ranked player, Adam Ganske, a 6'3 WF of Eau Claire Regis.  They are joined by fellow Class of 2010 recruits 5'9 PG Kevin McKenzie of Green Bay Notre Dame, 6'7 Forward Scott Carney of De Pere, 6'8 Forward Andrew Nottling of Watertown Luther Prep and 6'6 Forward Alec Molter of Greenfield.  They have also added the Class of 2009's #20 ranked player in  6'0 PG Mitch Tordoff from Monroe, who chose to transfer from Platteville.

All in all it's a VERY nice looking recruiting class, which boasts some nice guards, and quite a bit of size.  It should be interesting to see how they develop in the years to come.

Any idea if Kevin is related to Louis, who's a junior at UWSP?  They're both from Portage so I would assume so...

So now that Kowalczyk is gone at UWGB (took the Toledo job) who are the leading candidates to replace him?   I'll put my money on UW assistant Greg Gard or maybe even former UWGB standout Gary Grezesk, the current coach at St. Norbert.

thoughts?

The Roop

If Grzesk wants a D1 job, now may be the time. However, a dark horse in the race may be Jason Teske from Wausau East.

Sounds like UWGB is targeting someone who has been either a D1 assistant or D2/D3 head coach.  Would Teske meet those requirements?

Sounds like the returning players would like to see former Marquette standout and current UWGB asssistant Brian Wardle get the nod.

One things for sure it will be intersting to see what ends up happening.

The Roop

Promoting the assistant coach would make for the smoothest transition from a recruiting stand point, because at this time of year a coaching change can be awkward.

I'm not 100% on Teskes resume but I have seen his teams play many times. If given the opportunity I'm quite certain he would make a fine coach at the next level.

I've heard Grzesk told his team he isn't interested in the UWGB job.
