They made their free throws and didn't have any extended defensive lapses. The talent is there to compete with anybody and tonight's game proves it. Ken Burns effect on the video again so I gave up on trying to watch.

The camera slow-panned across daguerreotypes and old-timey music played during the broadcast?

Knox has some nice players. Why they didn't have Wetherbee shooting to 3 ball the whole game I'll never know. The kid put on a show for 2 minutes. Carlson looked good and Jones has the potential to be a star. They will win a few, that's for sure. I thought coach Purlee did a good job in the second half; timely defensive switches, judicious use of the timeout, fixing the offense to open things up.

Thought that Purlee's decision to turn the last 1:30 into a slash/hack/slam fest was a bit much, though - there were some almost-injuries there, for no good reason.

Once again, I have to got to Dictionary.com to decipher a Sager post.

"Old-timey" or "slow-panned"? ;)

Nice win for GC at home last night, 132 - 120. Griffin Lentsch had the hot hand but what impressed me more was the balanced quality play across all 3 squads. Even a late rally by Knox (who suddenly decided it would play a 3 pt game) was rebuffed with some patient play and well-thought-out shooting. It *seems* like the team has started to settle down and play more consistently through BOTH halves. This is a good thing.

Lots of steals from Valdez (who still is a bit foul happy), Maher, Bellamy, and Skelly. This freshman class is one of the best I've seen in years. And it's unusual - pleasant, but unusual - to see GC tower over its opponents. That height definitely was a key factor in their win.

Looking forward to meeting the 'other' Pioneers on Sat!

Principia won last night !!!!!!!!  Should help your SOS.

Any complaining about slashing or fouling by a Grinnell fan will be patently ignored here.  You can't be serious, can you?  :o :o :o :o

What I heard was that the academics weren't challenging enough for him at Lawrence so he transferred to Beloit.

I heard it had more to do with the more temperate southern climate.  ;)

He's from Colorado and they have winter there too. I believe your sources are in error.

Why would anyone want to go to Beloit..? I mean Norbs/Lawrence/Ripon/Carrol/Grinnel have been good recently at times, I wasnt sure if Beloit still had a team?

OBC

Go Principia! We are looking for a banner year for you.

Regarding the hacking/slashing at the end of the GC/Knox game, I believe the comments were made only because of the nature of the fouls. That is, not going for the ball or blocking a player in the normal course of the game, but grabbing around the waist, pulling on shoulders from behind, spinning offensive players around, etc.

The strategy to foul at the point Knox started was not a bad one. The officials could (and should) have directed the bench that fouls committed outside of a legitimate attempt at the ball would be called "intentional."

I believe there should be greater use of the intentional foul call by officials in many situations. That's only MHO.

Yes, OBC, that was exactly it. I really thought there were going to be some (stupid) injuries resulting from the foul-fest.

Good luck, by the way, to GC in their battle tomorrow with the 'other' Pioneers. May the Iowa pioneers triumph!
