Roop - first the Bucs beat the Knights in football, now sweep them in basketball - what's going on up there??

Not sure how to summarize last night's MC-GC game...definitely weird, Jeff.  Let me ask this before I post anything else:  What is the 'new' defense you're referring to?  Seemed like they pressed and trapped like every other year - the only difference I noticed is that they actually didn't grab and hack (and I mean that as a compliment - I've normally been amazed at what they get away with, but last night I thought they played decent D...maybe now just a little more conservative?).
And another question:  is Coach A more concerned now with 'quality shots' vs. # of shots?  Can't remember the last time a Grinnell team had the shot clock under 15....

I think Coach A always wants them to wait for quality 'looks' - I just think his definition of quality is different from most.  :)

The new D - well, I'd rather stay quiet as we have a couple more games and I'm hoping both teams haven't been following the GC broadcasts! But I will say that it really drove SNC and RC crazy - and they didn't have any problems with our D at the beginning of the season.

I actually liked a lot of MC's D last night. But they really gave up the ball quite a bit.

But man, was the shooting percentage awful last night!

Well, their D looked pretty similar to me, so I guess we'll see how it fares the rest of the way.

I agree - I liked MC's 1-3-1...probably the most active I've seen them this year, but let's face it, with three wins there are a lot of offensive holes to fill.

With that said, I can't say that I was very impressed with GC.  Obviously 7-41 contributed to that, but there were a number of those shots that weren't even close.  Saw three air balls from the same GC player within a span of a couple minutes...And as mentioned above, the Scots struggle offensively and gave it up quite a bit to a defense that really didn't create as much chaos as in past years.

Maybe I'm just critical because every time I see GC play, I immediately compare them (offensively, at least) to the mid-90s duo of Diekmann & Brands...my experience started with them, I still shake my head when I think of them launching 25+footers with regularity - and making them.

I know, it's just like playing Monmouth.  :D

Zing!!  Unfortunately, though, you would've been favored to beat the Scots this winter...

Still couldn't resist though  ;)

Jeff... just because the beat Ripon and Norberts at home does not mean they changed their defense. Grinnell alwayssss plays better at home, and opposing teams hate playing there. The reffing is not the same in Grinnell as it is at Carroll/Norberts/Beloit/Ripon/Lake Forest, etc etc

Not sure I buy the reffing part - I've seen bad reffing at away games, too  :) But GC often plays better at home, just as the other teams do on their home courts.

nonetheless, something's changed about the defense. You'll probably get to see it in action at the conference meet. I hope!

Good luck to GC in today's bout with IC!

Also, thanks to this year's seniors:

Aaron Epps
Augustus Karisch
Scott Kaitz
Alex McDonald
Kale Knisley

I for one have enjoyed the great games you've provided over the past 4 years. Here's hoping you make conference this year, and best of luck in your lives out of the 'Grinnell bubble'!
