GC 98, IC 91

Grinnell rips victory from IC. That's really it in a nutshell. IC led for most of the 1st half and into the halftime. GC had completion problems (echoes of the MC game) but stayed in with aggressive defense. 2nd half looked to be more of the same, with GC down by 10. Then about 6 minutes out GC started chipping away and the next time I looked up, we were up by 10.

Great game by Bellamy, defensively and offensively. A key block by Knisely helped change the momentum in the 2nd half. Some solid ball handling by Nitz (as well as some scoring contributions). IC's defense didn't leave a lot of 3 looks, and many of those we failed to connect on.

GC has knocked down the top 3 teams in the conf over the past 2 weekends. Here's hoping we'll get to see them do it all over again at conference championship.
Threes are better than twos....

The Roop

LU 72 BC 64. LU took the lead with around 7 minutes left and Beloit didn't shoot particularly well. I'm thinking this loss eliminates the Bucs as LU and CU were must wins.

Some of these have already been reported but here are the finals from today:

Congratulations to St. Norbert for securing the regular season championship for the 2nd? year in a row.

Seeds 2-5 right now are all sitting at 10-6.

Wow.

And thats with a 9-7 and an 8-7 following them

pgkevin

Kudos to Grinnell as well for turning a 3-6 conference record into 10-6 and a tentative tie for 2nd place

Redhawk312

Congrats to underachieving St norberts. You had everyone back, and yet managed to do worse than last year. I will be surprised if they get out of the conference tournament.

They've had a heck of a late season run! Here's hoping it continues.

System Error

I personally don't feel like doing the research myself, is there anyway anyone besides St. Norbert could host this tournament. Another tournament in De Pere, just doesn't excite me. I am not a fan of that gym. Too gloomy...

Norbert's has clinched.

The Roop

New Roop City State would like the opportunity to host the MWC Tournament as a neutral site. You'll find it on ESPNU's College Town. A FaceBook game. At the moment it's still a DIII facility if that helps.

Redhawk312 is off to a booming start. -5 karma in only 7 posts. scottie has a new % goal to shoot for. However, he does make a point. I said it before the season began that the MWC Tournament was likely to be the SNC Invitational but that they wouldn't go undefeated in the regular conference season. They haven't. Were the Green Knights expecting everyone to lay down and die ? Or have they actually underachieved ? I guess time will tell.

I guess the biggest question now is, who do you want to see in the NCAAs as the MWC rep. Then root for them. SNC has likely dropped out of Pool C contention now so pick one; as that's all we're getting. Grinnell is hot right now and IC has been pretty solid all season. Ripon vs. Lawrence is likely an elimination game and Carroll is waiting in the wings pending upcoming results and tie breakers. Lake Forest doesn't excite me so somebody else in the playoffs please.

If winning a conference championship is underachieving than you must be one of those Packer fans who still find something to grumble about in a Super Bowl win. How many conference titles have your Redhawks won in the last 12 years? The answer is three less than St. Norbert. SNC very well might not win the conference tournament, but it will likely be because there are a lot of other good teams in the league this year. If the team sitting in eighth place (Beloit) is still 500 with two games left than I'd say that's a pretty good league.

I'd say that unless they put together a good NCAA tourney run they will have underachieved this year. They were a better team last year and they returned almost everyone this year. They won the conference championship again but I for one was expecting them to run away with it. Also after last year's NCAA tourney with a win in the first round and a respectable showing against the future national champions I thought they would be in the discussion to be possibly hosting the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament this year and they are not. Yes they won conference but so far they have underachieved last year.

However I would have said the 2007 Carroll team had underachieved at this point in the season compared to the 2006 team that got an at-large to the NCAA Tournament. Then the 2007 team beat the #7 and #5 team in the nation to make the Sweet 16 so it is still possible for St. Norbert to change my mind.

Good luck to GC tonight in their makeup game with KC! Keep focused, guys - KC is a better team than its record, IMO.

St. Norbert is in and will host. With a win Grinnell will be in. Something tells me that happens tonight. That leaves 2 spots remaining and 4 teams fighting for it. Sounds like a pretty good season.

I hear what you're saying, but SNC is a lot like that Carroll team was in that they are very guard oriented. If you have some nights when the lid is on the hoop, you'll get beat. That's what's happened to SNC this year and I'm guessing what happened to Carroll back in 07. Then in the NCAAs the jumpers went down the well and they won. Lawrence was always able to withstand off shooting nights from guards because Braier always had the high percentage shots.
