Ripon College looking for a new basketball coach for the 2012-13 season...

Wow. An era has ended at Ripon.
To stay 34 years at the same school, in this day and age, is amazing.

Not to mention coaching two sports.

Very great achievement, probably one of the last of his kind.

Late to this party, but would have to agree with the sentiments expressed already.  34 years coaching two sports that overlap is amazing.  He was also the AD for a long time wasn't he?

How long did the guy at Monmouth do all 3?  Just remember his first name being Terry.

Terry Glasgow. I think that he did all three jobs for twenty years.

Does anyone here have any information on Beloit's new recruiting class coming in this fall? A couple of big holes to fill in the lineup.Roop must have the info, but it's been awfully quiet here during the early weeks of the summer doldrums of college sports.

Just saw program from WBCA state tournament.  SNC with a bunch of kids playing in the game.  Looks like GG has the shelves stocked for a while.  Only surprise was Thorn's younger brother is headed to UWSP.

A sign that the Apocolypse is near?  http://www.galesburg.com/newsnow/x425600596/Ex-Streak-Thompson-headed-for-Monmouth-College  (See paragraph #6 for the punch line.)

Any reaction from Knox fans?  How significant of a recruiting victory is this for MC?

UW-O got a hell of a coach.  Tharp got a lot of credit for LU's rise in the mid 2000s, but I think Pat had just as much if not more to do with it too....

My guess is that both of these questions will be answered in January or whenever they first tip it off against each other.  I hope the kid can light it up on a regular basis, but seeing Harley wearing the Monmouth fan gear will probably be worth the price of admission. The closest comparison that comes to mind immediately is John Scheyer going to Duke, even though his high school coach was Bruce Weber's brother.

Easy Larry U.  Juckem left after the 2004-05 season.  If I recall LU was pretty good 3 out of the next 4 years.

Might Brad Clark's stay at RC be a short one.  Would think it would make more sense for him to be an assistant at the place he played (UWO).

Rob Purlee is leaving Knox.  Will be joining former Edgewood College (WI) head coach Todd Adrian at Otterbein University.  http://prairiefire.knox.edu/news/2012/7/17/MBB_0717125231.aspx

This could well be a good thing for both Purlee and Knox.
With an overall record of 9-83 over the last 4 years, its not hard to believe that Knox won't be able to find someone who could better that record, at least marginally. On a personal level, I doubt its too often that a head coach leaves to take a position as an assistant in the same Division. D3 head coach to an ass't at a D1 or D2 yes, but D3 head to D3 ass't, not so much. Perhaps Purlee could see the writing on the wall. With his record over the last 4 years, its unlikely he would have gotten the opportunity to move laterally to another D3 head position as did Adrian and several other coaches recently, so maybe taking a step down in authority at a likely more athletically successful institution might be beneficial to Coach Purlee personally. He still gets the opportunity to coach/teach, but without as heavy a load from an overall responsibility standpoint.

On another note. How does everyone feel about Cornell joining the MWC?
From a travel/expense standpoint alone, it doesn't seem to make much sense.
Perhaps the Cornell athletic administration feels they will be able to garner more wins in the MWC than in the IIAC. However, with a record of 11-39 in basketball, and 3-17 in football over the last 2 years, I bet the other MWC members have laid out a nice welcoming mat.

I think it would be great if the MWC could find a school down by IC to join. Then it could split into divisions again and Lake Forest could finally be in the North Division again. With the team being by IC would give the South travel partners. CC-GC, KC-MC, IC-??. The North could have travel partners of SNC-LU, RC-CU, BC-LFC.

I'm not sure about all the details of things like institutional fit/mission etc., but if they were going to admit Cornell, IA, perhaps they blew it by not courting former NAIA member Iowa Wesleyan who is joining the SLIAC.
