Mr. Ypsi

I have frequently defended Grinnell's 'System' in the past, but tonight was just disgusting.  Setting a scoring record against a team you are beating by 75 points?  SHAME on Jack Taylor, but especially SHAME on the Arsenaults.  Grinnell basketball has become an embarrassment to d3 (and the human race) - have you scheduled a brownie troup so a player can score 200?

This game was just absolutely disgusting for Grinnell College.

I just finished watching the Georgetown-Indiana game on ESPN that was won in OT by Indiana. They immediately went to Sports Center and hyped the fact that Taylor scored 138 points. One of the upcoming stories in the next few minutes. Sounds like they are going to give it a favorable tilt.  :P :P

Take note folks, Grinnell did not have the largest margin of victory tonight so if all you want to do is whine about sportsmanship etc. at least spread the love to all the teams that deserve it.

Did any of you guys watch the stream of the game? I got through about 5 minutes...easily some of the worst basketball I've seen in awhile. Faith Baptist is horrendous. Nobody associated with Grinnell should be very proud of this one. A monkey could have put up 138 taking that many shots against that bad of a team. I watched Kent Raymond put up 47 in a game once....much more impressive.

Watched the game, about what I thought it would be.  Faith baptist might have had the ball for 3 minutes total.  I only remember one or two possessions where all 5 grinnell players made it to the defensive end.

A couple of notes that should be in the record books and articles.  This was an exhibition game for Faith Baptist.  The previous ncaa record holder Bevo Francis played for The university of Rio Grande which was not a D2 school as D2 was not yet in existence at the time.  Rio Grande is currently NAIA D-1.

gee whiz! Where was all the howling when GC was getting clubbed by 70 points or more   over and over again in Football, huh? Oh. You say that has been posted before and you have some excuse for why it doesn't relate? BFD. You guys are gonna drive me back to games yet with all this yammering about how disgusting GC is. No wonder the sub heading under men's basketball is "Childboards".
GO GRINNELL! RACK EM UP AND SHOOT EM DOWN!

Always a compliment when the NBA's best-known rapist endorses your efforts.

Watched the Grinnell game also for a couple of minutes, the announcer even said they play these games to break records. This was a big disappointment, I saw the article thinking this kid got really hot and set the record, this wasn't the case, the plan going into the game was to have him break a record, not a good idea.

Here is the On Demand video link, and D3hoops.com coverage, of the farce that was the Grinnell vs Faith Baptist game last night...

Jack Taylor scored 80 of his 138 points in the 2nd half.  The 2nd half starts at about 1:02 on the player.  For context of the game situation, keep the following Grinnell lead margins in mind as you watch:

Halftime: Grinnell up 39
15:00 2nd: Grinnell up 40
10:00 2nd, Grinnell up 43
5:00 2nd, Grinnell up 54

* Taylor scored his final 26 points in the final 5 minutes of the game with Grinnell up between 54 and 70 points

* Grinnell changed their usual 5 out/5 in substitution pattern in this game, going 4 & 4 to leave Taylor on the floor.  In the Grinnell system the best player usually plays about 20 minutes per game -- Taylor played 36 last night.

* After chucking up shots, you will see Taylor stay in cherrypick land, barely ever getting to halfcourt (again keep in mind his team was up 39+ the entire 2nd half and over 50 the entire final 5 minutes)

I would think that even supporters of the Grinnell system would struggle to get behind another contrived attempt to set an individual record against a terrible team, and the unbelievable running up the score that went alone with this effort.  It was one year and one day ago Griffin Lentsch scored 89 in a game that beforehand a Grinnell fan told me the Pioneers were going in seeking to break an individual scoring record.

Jack Taylor looks like a very talented player with a great skill set.  Unfortunately his name will be forever associated with this farce organized by Grinnell coach Dave Arseneault.

Yet again, Division III is made to look like a joke on the big stage (ESPN, etc) due to the circus that is Grinnell basketball.

Nope! No trouble at all getting behind Grinnell.

Yeah, me too.  I'd like to get behind them and put a boot in their collective asses.  Anyone who supports acts like this has the moral fiber of a snake.

jeffp

lots of teams get behind em. They just have trouble catching them to boot their arses.

Seriously! You guys are a hoot!

I saw this on Faith Baptist's schedule as well (EXHIBITION).  My question:  Does this really count?
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

All I can say is: (A) I was there. What Titan describes below is inaccurate. (B) what an epic whine! If (!) GC is beaten by any conference team during the season, I hope I can summon the wherewithal to whine as well as Titan has. Congrats!
