Greek Tragedy

Guessing this might have been brought up before, but I was looking at the schedule and noticed the lack of back-to-back games. That should help Grinnell in the regular season, but will make the tournament - if they make it - more interesting.

Nice to get three road wins under their belt. Maybe we see the tournament in Honey Boo Boo Land this season.

Why do you say that?  I would think having back to back games would help Grinnell on the 2nd night.  The opponent already played on Friday and Grinnell, who is used to playing up-tempo, comes in and forces their opponent to play that style.  Also, how does making the tournament make it more interesting?  This year's NCAA tourney will be spread out almost a month and a half.

Keeping it old school....
Not bad, but here's a quick tip:
NEVER use "snot green."

As you know, Slygo, ALL Grinnell fans are snots. Therefore "Snot green" works beautifully.

BTW, did the Norbs fans cry snot green tears after yesterdays game?

As I stated on Dec. 1; Good Luck MWC...

Titan Q, you may not have seen the system played this well before, but old timers like my self sure have. I'm thinkin' back to the 03-04 team that started like a house-a-fire and then burned down when Ken Huyser got hurt. Just one player made a huge difference that year. Remains to be seen if this team is as good, and it needs to avoid injury - something that hurt them during last year's run. Actually, Jr has this team playing true old-style Grinny ball again with 3 distinct lines (plus oddball sub patterns within the 3 lines) all contributing.

Greek Tragedy, I honestly believe one of the common myths about system ball relates to who is most affected by 2 weekend game scheduling. I used to believe as you did, but after years of watching, I've changed my mind. I don't think GC is any less affected that any other team due to the nature of play. Ie; all out all the time all three lines. Not wantin' to start an argument, just believin' that 15  - 18 players put in just as much effort in 10 to 20 minutes as most player do in 25 to 35 minutes. I'm not accusing any opponents of slacking, I'm just saying that the torrent that is Grinnell Basketball is just as exhausting to the perps as it is to the perpees.

jeffp,

Arguments are good.  My point is that my initial thoughts are that Grinnell players are "used to it". On the other hand, Their opponents only get this kind of game 2 times a year.  There is a lot more adjusting to "the system" than Grinnell has to do and after playing a "slow" game on Friday, it's a track race the following day without much rest, especially since they play Friday night and Saturday afternoon.  You are obviously closer to the program than I am, so you will know better!  :P

Well, if you are saying that the real deal changer is the adjustment instead of the fatigue, Ill buy in.

Good luck to GC tomorrow in their home matchup with IC! May the team with the most HBB win!

Ouch.. I think to myself, "Scottie can't go any lower, surely", and then I get on the message board to see that, yes, he has gone lower. Ok, Scottie, what are you going to call the 'other' Pioneers? You know, the CC kind?   :o

Lights out shootin' from all over the court. Now THAT"S how you beat the system.

Crow I be Eatin'. :-X

Geesh.. watched the game on the net... first time seeing Grinnell home game... IC shooting in 2nd half was incredible...Taylor really looks legit....I was disappointed to see such a sparse crowd, my imagination regarding Grinnell basketball was a full house going bonkers with the rapid flow of the game...  the system, the pressure defense everywhere, just really fun to watch... Grinnell wins if IC shoots normal.....great game..
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

A well-played game with a disappointing ending. IC's coach has always known how to handle the system, and he has the players this year to do it. IC #20 dropping 3s like he should be on the GC squad. GC did a good job but when #20 went on a scoring spree toward the end of the 2nd half, GC had no answer. Oh well!
