My weekend blog looking at Grinnell-Norbert and Lawrence-Cornell as well as games from the WIAC and NathCon http://diiihoopsblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/weekend-analysis-9-nitty-gritty.html

That win by Grinnell shifts the whole landscape assuming everyone wins out.

That means that Carroll and Ripon, who could've enjoyed a secondary homecourt advantage up in Green Bay (trips for both teams within two hours) over Grinnell, now makes the trip tough for all three Wisconsin schools having to go to Grinnell, who gets a distinct advantage over all three. Just crazy

Great analysis of the GC/SNC game, and I second the 'pick to click' choice for Luke Yeager. He had a great game.

Hard to argue that pick to click, especially with the two big ones in the OT.

Anybody else not a fan of the new color scheme?  My rods and cones are all screwed up!

It should still be the same colors -- still blue and a lighter blue.

I've got orange all over the joint.....

ExBBaller40, enjoying your blog and analysis this year. Noticed in your previews of GC-STN that you'd pay $9.00 to see it. You'd have gotten your money's worth. In fact, since we played an extra 5 minutes, you should up the price to $10.00.

Then again, all athletic events at Grinnell College are free to the public, so you get it all for zip, zilch, nada.

Also, Grinnell SHOULD handle Cornell tomorrow (but don't forget Cornell beat STN), but the game that worries me is the one at Lawrence. That's a tough place to play, and LU has a proud basketball tradition. It's a long way to travel, too. The Pioneers will need their A game in Appleton.

Thanks OBC and yes that game against Lawrence is a scary one as Lawrence could still be playing for that fourth playoff spot. And even if their not they will be plenty mad enough to play the spoiler for one of the tournament teams looking to host.

Conference tournament weekend in Iowa? Hmm ... that sounds intriguing.

In 2007 the tournament was at Grinnell. There was an ice storm Saturday while Carroll and Lake Forest were warming up for the championship game. The power was knocked out so the game was moved to Sunday at Monmouth. The power was out there as well so it was moved to Knox.

Pat Coleman

I hope it's not *that* intriguing. I meant more that it might be a place for me to go.

On any given night, any given team can lose a game. That's just the way it is.

However, it is my hope and belief that GC will NOT lose to Cornell tonight.

Perhaps there will be a Jeffp and OBC sighting at the game tonight?

Also may see CC pres Brand, who was formerly with GC....

Greek Tragedy

Not sure if the Grinnell fans want the conference tourney held at Darby. Teams are just 6-4 in winning the conference tourney when hosting the last 10 years and three of those failed times Grinnell was the host. Since the 98-99 season, hosts have won the tourney just 8 times. Prior to that season, there were two divisions and the host was 8-0 in hoisting the championship.

Pat, if Grinnell wins out and hosts, you should definitely check it out. There will be tickets for you (and Elvis) at the will call window. Usually a fun atmosphere and some pretty good teams. Let me know and I'll buy you a coffee at Jeffp's former establishment.

My favorite former GC basketball star promises to return to watch if the Pioneers host. He should be good for a few insights.

Thanks. I have been to Grinnell once (and have met Jeffp at his place of business) a few years ago. I came down incognito to see them play Wheaton and also to audit David Arseneault's assist numbers. He was credited with 10 on a day he really only had nine, but that's not nearly as bad as I've seen assists inflated elsewhere, so I did not have a particular problem with it. :)

Pat, since your last visit Grinnell has gotten a great new restaurant, The Prairie Canary (http://www.theprairiecanary.com/). Worth checking out if you come.
