SNC signed a local kid from Seymour, Dakota Oskey, yesterday.  This kid is good enough to play up in D2 but wants to stay close to home I guess.  Wish he would have gone south to LU.  :(

Besides yourself, a former staffer from within the conference now coaching in his high school conference wanted him to go to LU too, based on his phone call to him saying don't go to SNC. Can't ever say I've heard of such a maneuver before...

Are you suggesting that there are no outside influencers in recruiting?  That is naive.

He announced his commit to SNC--I have no idea what that means in D3.  It was in the regional Gannett press.   :'(

The MWC has perhaps the most strict recruiting rules in DIII.  No way there would be any funny business!  Not in Illinois or Iowa, at least!   ;D

Not naive at all. I would expect there be outside influences in recruiting in any sport, including a young man's own coach. If a player asked an opposing coach his opinion, because the player himself asked for the opinion I'd have no problem with that either. I'm saying for an opposing coach to call the player unsolicited and give his two cents, to me that is unusual at best. It just makes the outside coach look like he has an axe to grind or petty.

AppletonRocks

There is a lot of interaction outside the high school season, including in AAU. You may not agree with the person in question but if I am guessing who you speak of, he is a highly respected AAU coach as well as a good man who cares about his players first, whether school or summer teams.  Relationships are made and opinions are shared regarding fit, chemistry, etc.   Not a villain in any case.

Best wishes to SNC.

IF there are any shenanigans going on, it sounds like they are happening in the Dairy State.  I trust The Roop will keep law & order.   ;)

No, the fuller Roops pockets become, the less he sees. Whitewater misses the playoffs last year, Roop moves here. This year Whitewater is in Salem again. Simple mathematics but hey, I don't know nothin..................

I can almost picture every day at the Sager manse beginning with Gregory rolling out of bed and pressing PLAY on the cassette player, and having Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days" as a soundtrack as he makes his way over to the coffee pot.   ;D

Well, not everybody can root for a school that has won five national championships over the past ten years the way that Monmouth has. ;) :D

Right, but that's not a "signing". Dakota Oskey is under no requirement whatsoever to: a) attend St. Norbert; or b) play for the Green Knights, even if he does end up attending SNC.

Scholarship players sign a letter of intent, because accepting scholarship money to play basketball requires a formal contract. Players who verbally commit to play for a D3 school aren't constrained to do so. Therefore, they don't "sign" anything that has to do with playing basketball for that team.

As an old D3 coach once said, "I don't know whether or not I've got 'em until I see the whites of their eyes on the first day of practice."

Tom (Greek Tragedy) and I weren't trying to scold you or anything. The thing about D3 players not being held to a commitment that requires a signature is simply an important point about D3 that bears repeating on d3boards.com.

Oh, Gregory (aka "Marty McFly")....We like to proofread our work over here in the MWC board.  I'm sure you didn't mean to write "over the past ten years."  Looking at your D3 Boards team page, your last seven years (at least) appear to have been quite Vershawshankian.  Over course, if you actually think it is 1988 (and, quite possibly, you might) then your statement would be accurate.   :o

It always gives me a good chuckle when I read in a newspaper that a player has "signed" with a D-III school to play basketball, football, etc. :D
