Given the usual respect the MWC gets, I won't be surprised that UWW loses to UWSP in the WIAC tourney and SNC still goes to Whitewater for the first round.

Well, UWW should get a home game before St. Norbert does, considering UWW won the head-to-head game.

Well Pat, what if St. Norbert runs the table and ends up as #1 ???

NWC, SCIAC and ODAC teams @ St. Norbert and bracket them in the East.

No, no, and no since that requires three flights. :)

I know that's a factor. But if - if - SNC runs the table and ends up as a one-loss team and UWW loses again, giving it four losses, I would hope a conference champion doesn't have to go on the road to open the tournament. I know there are many factors, strength of schedule, etc. I get that. But one head-to-head isn't the only factor.

And I know the polls don't carry any weight. But with three top-five teams in close proximity, the placement could be tough.  Marian/MSOE should end up nearby, I would think

And perhaps it's all just wishful thinking on my part.

UWW women might be in line to host as well, that's the wrench in the works as a school can't host both. They're gonna have to move teams or the Wisconsin State Championship bracket gets the Walnut and Bronze and call the rest of it off.

Lawrence was MWC champ and played in the Bracket of Death in Illinois in 2009.  So precedent to shaft the MWC exists.  :o

And if they had made their lay ups and not turned the ball over they had it won.

Most conference champions go on the road to open the tournament. Remember, only seventeen teams will host games during the opening weekend. And there's 44 conferences in D3 men's basketball.

Was 2009 the year LU lost to Wash U or was it Wheaton?   I know in 2004 and 2005 Stevens Point beat LU and then won the title.

In 2006 the refs gave the game to IWU in Appleton, don't know if they won or lost after that.  I know that LU's Keven Bradley has scars from the foul called traveling at half court.

Can't recall 2007 and 2008.

I was there. They were generous to IWU but I don't think it cost Lawrence the game. Lawrence went cold in the second half but still had a chance to tie and send it to overtime.

IWU won the consolation game and wound up 3rd in the country.

True enough.  :-[

Maybe I should have said I hope a conference champion doesn't have to go on the road to a 2nd place team... Of course, that could put SNC in UWSP's lap - which isn't a preferable alternative... As I said, perhaps it's just wishful thinking SNC would host...

I guess we saw it through a different prism, which is okay.   ::)

I think 2008 was the loss to Wheaton. 2007 was the weird year in there that Lawrence did terrible and missed the MWC tourney. It was held in an ice storm in Grinnell and Galesburg (final moved there due to power outage in Grinnell AND Monmouth). Carroll won it and then knocked off #7 Augustana and #5 St. Thomas before bowing out to Hope in the Sweet 16.
