Semantics. I read the word NEEDS in caps, and it sounds like "major upset" to me. ;)

I think he was referring to two different things.  Coming from a less-respected conference, SNC's national credibility really NEEDED to win over Elmhurst.  That is not at all the same as saying Elmhurst winning the game was a 'major' upset.

I didn't read it that way, but if that's how you intended it, OK.

This is an athletics web site.  While their academic profile is well-respected, I was being polite and not saying 'sub-mediocre' or simply 'bad' for their athletic profile.

Overall, I thought the SNC guys gave it everything they had in the tank vs. a very good Elmhurst team. It felt like they had momentum in regulation, OT, and 2OT but they just couldn't close out the game. Props to Wuest and the rest of the Elmhurst squad on a fantastic game, although it probably gave them some tired legs for their game the next day against a scrappy Northwestern team.

About the game, only playing 7 guys definitely hurt the Knights over the course of the 55 minutes. Thought the starters could have gotten some quick breathers here and there to get some rest for the final push. It will forever be questioned if Grzesk should have fouled down 3 with about 9 seconds on the clock. He makes a point that the program is built on defense and Wuest made a heck of a shot, but there will always be debate about what to do in those types of situation.

One last thing, I thought it was pretty classless of Crittenden to go in for a layup with less than 30 while being up 10 and the Knights had obviously thrown in the towel. I know the crowd booed him pretty good, but still, have some class after a terrific game played by two very evenly matched teams. Congrats to both Elmhurst and St. Norbert on terrific seasons!

Greek Tragedy

I know playing 55 minutes is rough for a rotation of 7 guys. What are the media timeout rules in OT. I mean, in the tourney,  aren't there media timeouts at 16, 12, 8 and 4? That doesn't even count the timeouts the teams get (2 full and 2 30-sec?) I mean, unless you're playing Grinnell,  seems like plenty of time to catch your breath.

Media timeouts are at 16, 12, 8, 4 plus in the second half the first team-called timeout becomes a fifth media timeout.

Regulation team timeouts for NCAA games are one full and four 30's. One 30 must be used in the first half (or forfeited), because it doesn't carry over to the second half.

There are no media timeouts during OT's. Each team gains one additional 30-second TO for each overtime period.

So Just Bill just posted that Green Bay's coach, Brian Wardle took the Bradley job. Would Grzesk leave St. Norbert and does he have the resume to go to GB?

His name will be suggested. And it wouldn't be the first time UWGB has hired from D3 - Dick Bennett came from UWGB and Mike Heideman was at SNC.

Resume-wise that's up to the AD. If he wasn't "in the family" I doubt he would get the same consideration. And if UWGB wants a D3 coach maybe they go after UWSP's Bob Semling. He just won a national title and is a former UWGB assistant.

But if the AD decides she wants a coach with D1 experience, the question is moot

From the GB Press Gazzette

The list includes UWGB associate head coach Brian Barone, who has worked under Wardle the past five seasons.

"Among others who might have interest include St. Norbert College coach and former Phoenix player Gary Grzesk, Wisconsin associate head coach Greg Gard, Stevens Point coach Bob Semling, Cardinal Stritch University coach Drew Diener and University of Washington assistant T.J. Otzleberger."

Another great candidate with MWC ties could be John Tharp of Hillsdale College, formerly of Lawrence.

No chance a guy that just went 13-13 (11-11 in GLIAC) even sniffs the job....
