Cornell lost their opening night game with local rival Coe College, 80-65.  Point guard Davis lead the way with 25 - he's going to be a problem for teams to stop, but overall, there's not a lot of playmaking for the Rams - only 5 assists as a team for the game.  Outside shooting was also a problem, went 4-19 from 3.

Had 4 players out with injury, 3 of which will see significant minutes (including 6'6" and 6'7" players) eventually.  No seniors on the roster and only 2 juniors (with one out injured).  Was a 4 point game with 6 minutes to play, and the young players hung tough, but it might be tough sledding for Cornell when facing mature teams this winter.  Just a big difference between 18 and 21 year-old bodies.

Question for CCRamFan--do Cornell grads sometimes get confused with grads from Ivy League schools ?  I know graduates from Harvard on the Fox (that would be UW Oshkosh) have a hard time explaining their awesome performance in their post collegiate careers to their Ivy League subordinates.  ;D

It's funny - if you look at Cornell's twitter profile, they mention that they "have nothing to do with Cornell University".  I remember back in the day, I was visiting a friend at Notre Dame and one of the girls at the party we were at asked me where I went to school.  I just answered "Cornell" and she then asked me if it was the real university or that weirdo little school in Iowa.  Needless to say, no progress was made that night with that particular individual  ;)

Sorry that didn't work out for you. She was looking for a Titan. And I didn't mean Illinois Wesleyan.  ;)

I guess what I was trying to say that since Lawrence struggled before Tharp, he obviously was able to do some things right to "turn things around."

Why would it be so hard to believe that someone else couldn't come in and do the same thing Tharp did instead of sitting there and watching JoJo continue to miss the MWC Tourney year, after year, after year.....

Losing to Wisconsin Lutheran at home isn't a good sign for making it this year either.

Maybe JoJo can get Kellett to put Dominican, Silver Lake and Maranatha Baptist on the schedule for next year instead....

I suspect your grudge is because JoJo stole your milk money in grade school?  😮

Fat chance....  I've always avoided Sheboygan at all costs...

Anyway, I just think it's humorous how JoJo was quick to "puff his chest" with Tharp's players (didn't have to do much coaching then) but as soon as he actually has to win with his own, evidence has shown he can't get it done, whether it be from the recruiting or coaching end.

I guess if you are a fan of Ripon, Carroll, or SNC, you hope JoJo never leaves Lawrence though, as he can't manage to crack the Top 4 of the MWC.  If they bring someone else in, that might actually change!!!

If you're a fan of Carroll, you likely don't care anymore as to who will be coaching Lawrence after this season.

Correct.  Carroll is inexplicably moving on to a lesser conference.  ???

The MC football season has come to an end...so here I am for basketball season!  The Fighting Scots open up their season tonight with a home game against Eureka.

scottie - Feel free to chime in anytime.  I know you're lurking around here somewhere. ;)

You know what, Maverick?  A 3-0 start by the Good Guys, including two come-from-behind wins. definitely will lead to a scottiechime! :)  Saturday's game against SNC at Glennie Gym will be YUGE!   ;D  (Hopefully, there will be a few butts in the seats during the Thanksgiving hiatus.)
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

It looks like Monmouth is off to a very good start on what should be an exciting season for them. Ripon had to go to OT against Larry at home in that high school-esque gym which was a little surprising to me. SNC goes on the road tomorrow to face Point who is coming off a loss to Hope at the Quandt. Hopefully the Green Knights can catch the Pointers looking ahead to Thanksgiving and an eventual match-up with preseason #1 Augustana. I'm taking the Green Knights tomorrow in a slug-fest 62-59. The Young Guns show that they can play, and beat, the best in the nation. Anyone else think the Green Knights can stick with em? I feel as if I may be in the minority on here!

Go Green Knights!

Cornell beat Illinois College 78-71.  Was a tie game with 2 minutes to play...Rams made a few plays and then made all of their free throws to close it out.  Led by Jr. Grant Anderson's 24 pts and 10 rbs.  Was an even match of young teams (neither has a senior on the roster).

Turnovers were again an issue for the Rams (18), but good shooting (10-18 3 pt and 16-18 FT's) will bail you out on some nights.  This was a game that Cornell had to have - a home game against a team picked to finish in the lower half of the league (as is CC).  Rams again played without their best big, but he should be back for this weekend's non-conf game against Robert Morris.
