Real question is when will Norberts lose, if they do at all in the MWC this year? Big game this week vs Carroll, but I find it hard to believe that Carroll can beat Norberts. Carroll seems to be squeaking by games and are due to falter. Combs must be coach of the year as of today though for the job he has done.

Regardless of a coach at a program, I've come to learn at the D3 level things can change with a recruiting class. Norberts does not have a Sr, so maybe they will not get 12 plus recruits this year. Is there a chance Ripon, Beloit or Lawrence can sneak some recruits?

"Norberts" will lose eventually. Tough four games coming up. Carroll will give "Norberts" all they can handle. As for getting 12 plus recruits every year I don't think the "Norberts" staff is sitting at Sunseekers, The Wooden Nickel, The Launching Pad or Pastimes all the time, they're out talking to recruits. Welcome to the board by the way. Since Appleton Rocks seems to have left this board it will be good to have you as a replacement as you seemed to hit all of AR's old talking points (when will SNC lose, size of SNC's recruiting classes).

It's obvious that St. Norbert wins because opponents believe that they're facing multiple Norberts. ;)

That story made a significant error. Wheaton's 61-game CCIW winning streak (it was actually called the CCI rather than the CCIW, since there were no Wisconsin-based schools in the league at the time) back in the 1950s occurred when there was no D3. The CCI was a mixed league of NAIA and NCAA College Division schools back then, with Wheaton a member of the latter organization. The NCAA's College Division split into D2 and D3 for basketball purposes starting with the 1974-75 season.

Therefore, it would appear that the current 53-game MWC winning streak is the longest league winning streak in D3 history.

Well, SNC counts their streak as the second-longest by a D3 "member" -

"St. Norbert's current 53-game winning streak against Midwest Conference opponents is believed to be the second-longest conference skein in history by a NCAA Division III member."

So I guess the information about Wheaton's as being a mix of NCAA and NAIA makes sense in that context.

Not sure if that's any sort of official D3 record on this topic, so I see what you are saying about since the formal creation of D3 - but it appears SNC is using a longer historical context for its comparison. And then comparing to a current D3 member, too. Because if SNC claims the record, and then Wheaton says "hold on just a minute, there, bub" - this avoids that by recognizing it. Not sure one or the other is a "better" way to do it.

And, greek, yes, this is for men's hoops...

Yeah, SNC sports information director Dan Lukes worded it properly in tonight's game notes. He correctly noted the difference between a streak held by a D3 member and a streak that is actually contained within D3 history itself.

There isn't, as the NCAA does not keep league records for men's basketball. (It does for soccer and hockey, though.)

Yes, which is quite valid ... as long as you word it properly. And, as I indicated, Dan Lukes did word it properly, which doesn't surprise me. He's a very good SID.

They're both equally valid, since, if you think about it, they're really two different types of winning streaks. One's a streak that involves schools that are current D3 members (the vast majority of whom were playing basketball long before the division began in 1974-75), the other's a streak that is confined to D3 members during the 41 seasons of this division's existence. My point is that one shouldn't be confused with the other, which the Fox11 story did.

Carroll had five early turnovers as SNC jumped out to an early 18-3 lead, en route to that 18 point lead at the half.

The Pioneers cut it to 13, but then SNC stretched it out to as many as 34. Final was 82-58.

A very solid win that puts SNC in control of the regular season, with a 1.5 game lead. But on any given night...
