Not sure if anyone else noticed, but it appears SNC will be playing the majority of their home games at UWGB's Kress Center this year...

It is a long haul up to Kress Center for most DePere fans.  I come from Oconto so probably save some time.  I usually am there hoping to see the Green Knights lose.  Last year Alma gave us a good show twice  :)

Anyone hoping Lawrence will lose gets a good show just about any night the ball gets tossed into the air.

Do you contribute to those endowments of just mooch off the more charitable types that established them?   :o ???

Oh, I contribute, trust me. Don't make the kind of money that would allow me to build a residence hall or a field house but the contributions happen every year. New capital campaign is coming soon, by the way.

True, perhaps, but the MWC rep finished higher last year and a lot of voters use that as a starting point.

I don't disagree in the least.

What I did find interesting, however, was that, until this year, the years that the WIAC wasn't as highly rated, the MWC didn't "pick up the slack." One would think that if the leagues were truly battling for talent in Wisconsin, when the MWC would be up, the WIAC would be down (or vice versa).

Thanks for the research.

Interesting that once each for Platteville and River Falls as the top WIAC school preseason beside the usual powers, but no appearances in that list by Eau Claire, LaCrosse, Superior or Stout.

Overall, I don't think the MWC and WIAC are competing for the same athletes. Maybe SNC is encroaching on that top tier now, and there may some overlap between the mid-tier WIAC player and top MWC players. But, as in most cases, the WIAC is simply a step above the MWC. There will be individual exceptions - such as Lawrence's Elite 8 run in '04 - but the MWC is a notch below.

And, in the grand scheme, no it's not important. I always note on the hockey boards (where SNC is often ranked at or near the top) that it only matters to be #1 at the end. But for a conference that doesn't often get much national respect (perhaps not undeservedly so) it is a nice tip 'o the cap.

When I started the list, I listed all teams ranked from both conferences... But I ran out of time and could only do the to trans from the last 4 years, so I truncated the others.

What's interesting is that, though EC, LaX, Stout, and Superior weren't the top WIAC team (pre) ranked in any year, they did all get votes. AND every team (not named Superior) made the NCAA tournament at least one during this stretch. Which I find pretty remarkable given the collective dominance of Stevens Point and Whitewater.

Hey cubs, if Coach DePagter allows me, I intend to try and see an LU practice sometime soon as well.  I am sure if they were 20-0 they still wouldn't meet your exacting standards, but I think the story behind that has nothing to do with basketball.  :(
Nothing to do with my standards.....

Just many LU fans long for the days of actually qualifying for the MWC Tournament on a regular basis (much less the NCAA Tournament.)  Instead they have had to sit and watch the Vikings miss the MWC Tournament seven straight years and finish with a losing record in five of those seven years as well.

My guess is they come closer to 20 losses this year, and not 20 wins....  :o
