I'd hardly call it taking one on the chin. Considering St. Norbert was without one of its preferred starters, and that Oshkosh is pretty loaded, one would have to wonder how it was a three-point game to begin with.

Was it a preferred starter from last year? Looks like they've used the same starting 5 in all three this year. Oshkosh struggled vs Benedictine while St. Norbert hammered them. It's in De Pere, so SNC would be favored in my opinion.

Curtis hasn't dressed at all yet this year. I can only assume he is injured, and further assume he would be starting since I again assume Grzesk would prefer not to have a 6-4 guy playing the 5, especially against a 6-8 guy like Flynn. But let's take this a step further. How many of St. Norbert's starters would start for Oshkosh? You can only make the case for two - DeValk and Reinthaler. The question is, who would they start in place of? Certainly not Boots, Fravert or Flynn (by default at his position). That leaves Noone and Wittchow. Noone has played big minutes for Oshkosh for a long time so would he start in front of DeValk? Probably not but if you compare the two and their numbers lately it's probably a push. Then you have to ask would Reinthaler be out of place starting in Wittchow's spot? Probably not but Reinthaler is more of a 4 and could very well play the 3. So when you break it all down Oshkosh's starting five is better than St. Norbert's starting five they put out there on Tuesday. So that's why I think Oshkosh would have been favored and am surprised the game was as close as it was, especially with St. Norbert shooting so poorly at home.

The Lawrence Vikings continue their undefeated campaign tonight vs, the Illinois College Blue Balls at Alexander Gym.  Leave work early today as i5 appears the MWC has decided to run the men's games ahead of the ladies games again.

Not a great idea unless you recall the Suffrage Movement which happened before these players parents were born.  Form over substance.  Sell fewer tickets.  Not a good result.

Go Vikes, both teams !!

SNC completes the weekend flatlander sweep, beating IC 75-56.

DeValk had 15 to lead the way, as 10 players score.

I don't watch much of Illinois College but do they flop on every play? Some real Oscar possibilities against Lawrence last week.

Greek Tragedy

Big week for Lawrence. They host SNC and then travel to Grinnell. If they are still unbeaten come Sunday, maybe cubs will give Coach D. a little cred!

SNC wins, 73-59.

from SNC release:
The Green Knights (6-1, 3-0 MWC) found themselves tied with the Vikings (5-1, 2-1) at 38-38 with 12:26 left. St. Norbert then went on its decisive run over the next 4:53 to lead 52-40 with 7:33 to go.

SNC women also won, 66-32, IIRC

Cubs will be pleased.  LU played well and DJ DeValk cracked the scoring ice with 27.  He was less effective vs. Point and Oshkosh.  I still think SNC passes on too many good shots to get similar good shots later in the possession, but they will roll through the MWC again if they avoid big boo boos. ;)

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

It is the time of the season when managing practices and games around finals and soon-to-be holiday breaks can be difficult, especially as most conferences have begun in-conference games while there are still non-conference battles on tap.

On Thursday's edition of Hoopsville, Dave chats with a number of coaches who have had significant starts to the season, but are now managing their seasons. How are the highs and lows massaged and how to keep student-athletes focused not only on their studies (and finals), but also the game.

Results at this time of the year will be a factor come the end of the season.

Dave will also discuss, and update if able, the breaking news out of St. Norbert where the women's basketball team has been suspended ten games due to a number of players' actions.

Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. You can watch the show starting at 7:00 pm ET here: http://bit.ly/2ADCaC3.

Grinnell with an ineligible player last year and now the SNC women this year. What the heck?
