Against all odds, the LU/Norb game is on the web. Check out http://www.lawrence.edu/sorg/wlfm/ if you're interested.

I mean...if this board is still about MWC basketball...

Lawrence puts away a tough St. Norbert squad, pulling away at the end. Final score: Lawrence 79, Norb 68

With Duke and Pitt losing today, I believe LU is one of two undefeated NCAA mens basketball teams.

Traditional sonnet, maybe.  We gonna hafta rehash Gregory Corso again? ;)

Depends. Are we going to have to rehash you playing tennis without a net again?

It's not that I wanted to subject this room to a reprise of last year's discussion. But your 8:36 post this morning spiked the needle into the red on the smug-o-meter and left me little choice. But at least all those haikus have left this room is well-equipped to handle poetry discussions.  :D

Yeah, and Florida is playing at Tennessee, a tough school and a tough place to play. Can super Saturday make it three for three against the undefeated DI teams?

I'm listening to the audio of the game...

What a shame about Paul. Did we lose his brother two years ago in his senior year?

Just too bad to lose a player like that.

Nice win for the team.

Ok, this one was a gut check game for Grinnell playing without Paul Nordlund. And what a game it was. Every last player on the team stepped up and played hard, gritty ball. For the most part, Beckford was neutralized (maybe partly by LFC's spread-em-out offense used in a vain attempt to stop the 'neers) but i still have to sing his praises. He is truly the most overlooked Senior in the conference-smart, quick, smooth, physical...just a few of the adjectives that come to mind.
But the singin' doesn't end til I get to talk a bit about the Pioneers. With Nordlund on the bench with an injury who is gonna fix the hole? Well, lets start with Kieth Chamberlain. This kid should still be in HIGH SCHOOL fer crissake, and he is out here banging with the likes of Beckford and Wimp! What a fantastic game for him tonight both offensively and defensively. I don't have a box to look at, but i don't need it to tell you he has come of age. Overheard quote from Coach A to Mike's family: "Our baby is growing up! And boy, am i excited!" You and 1600 other fans, coach!
Next up-John Grotberg. Bottled up, backed down, doubled and tripled and still he scores.
Mike Schmidt- COMPLETE PLAYER! Inside, outside, defense...the whole shmear!
Jr-Heads up ball today all game long. What a difference maker!
Doug Ticus-Step right up and let him take a whack at you. You lose.
Brock Martinez-with PN out his role becomes way more important. Shoes Filled!
Bobby Long-ragged at times but he bothered everything and everybody...especially the oafs!
Jack and Trek and Armando with huge treys when things were tough.
Quality minutes from MAX BRAUER!
Great role play from Ahmed Idrissa!
Leadership and smarts from Toby Carlson!

This team coulda folded without the senior leader but would have none of it! I've said it before, but it needs to be repeated. This freshman class is just what Grinnell needed. It makes everyone on the team play hard, and gives the sophmores a chance to do their jobs. The juniors and Seniors provide the knowledge and leadership. Adversity sometimes brings out the best in people and that is exactly what happened tonight!
What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon! Thank you, guys!

SF86-
We've lost 3 key players in 4 seasons, but Steve Nordlund wasn't one of them. In 02-03 it was Malinowski for the season, in 03-04 it was Kenny Heiser and this year it may well be Nordlund. He is such a class act! As 'that girl' told me when he first hit town, he is hands-down the nicest kid on campus. It is a cryin' shame, but the leadership he provided from the bench tonight was a HUGE factor! Great game, TALL PAUL!!!

The game was in question right down to the final seconds, too bad one team had to lose. It was that good. Beloit had the ball and a chance to tie with 14.8 seconds left but a  turnover/steal gave Carroll the ball and the free throw contest began. I've seen jumped balls called lots of times on an exchange like that but I think Carroll had the arrow anyway.

My program is in the car and I don't remember names but #35 for Carroll who had been throwing up bricks all game from the charity strip nailed his final 5 attempts to seal the deal. Tough loss for the Bucs as that makes it three straight. Had they been able to take the lead, or force overtime, I think they win. They answered every Carroll run the entire game but just couldn't get over the hump in the second half.
