When did Pat hire you to be the bouncer working the ropeline at the MWC Club?  :D

Oh, that would be a riot.  I can see it now (cue the harp music). North Park at Monmouth for a regional final.  Yes, I'm dreaming but stay with me for a second...  Scottie is taking tickets.  Here comes Sager, steaming because he just got a speeding ticket coming into town, and I turn him away at the door.   ;D
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

the overal  environment at Beloit is not friendly towards athletics. Thats very obvious if you look at all the sports programs. Beloit as a whole is not a very succesfull athletic school. Are all the coaches that struggle at this school bad. When was the last time Beloit had a succesful women's bb team. Footbal as been ave at best. How about baseball. Why is it so hard to understand that the talent pool available to Beloit has been much narrower than any school (except maybe the Sytem school) that the even if the coaches could convince the better talent to come to Beloit it doesnt mean they will get in.

With all due respect, this is a huge cop out and a ridiculous excuse for an athletics program that is underachieving... I was at Lawrence for 4 years and I can tell you that the support for athletics there was minimal. I mean, we just hired our first full-time Athletic Director for crying out loud!! Have you seen our weight room and athletic facilities? I can't tell you how many football recruits I brought through on tours who commented that their high school weight room was bigger and better than ours! With very few exceptions, the senior music recitals often have higher attendance than sporting events!! And, I would put our academic standards to the test against any other MWC school (and most other schools across the country).

The successful programs we have had in recent years - basketball, softball, swimming - are because those coaches work their butts off to get the best possible student-athletes there and then worked to make them disciplined players and disciplined teams.

If you want to blame Beloit's poor athletic tradition on coaching, fine, I don't know anything about them and couldn't comment. But, to say that they struggle because of a lack of support for athletics or because of tough admission's standards is absolutely and completely wrong. Other MWC programs deal with the same thing and have managed to field competitive teams.

Quite the conversation!!
The Carroll game was a good one, unfortunately we were unable to close out and win.  For the most part, except a few games, we have been able to play good enough in games to lose by 5.  Why is that??  I don't know, is it coaching? senior leadership? lack of confidence? getting too comfortable with losing?
For Viking fan, I toured the LU facilities, and you are right, they stink.  How they get recruits to come year after year and succeed?? The Juckem/Tharp combo was a great one, maybe LU's recruiting will drop off with losing Juckem?? Who knows?
All I know is that its very frustrating and us BC fans are getting sick and tired of saying "good effort" we were close.
There is a reason why year in and year out that BC is picked to finish 7th or 8th, why that is? I wish I knew.
Also, sorry to hear about Paul Nordland, he is a class act and great leader.  Best of luck after graduation Paul.

That is even more inaccurate than you realize. :)

I'm amped for Larry and GC this weekend.  It might even be worth driving to Iowa and back in one day.

I'm totally ticked off that I won't get to see the KC-GC game tomorrow night - because I have to cover a high school game that's more than likely going to be a blowout... >:( :'(  But GC just might be looking at a loss, I think. KC is playing very, very well right now.

"Dolph, if you want a white coach at Beloit why don't you just come out and say you want a white coach at Beloit. Be a man and say it."

Sorry Roop but any respect I may have had for you just went out the window.  Want to disagree about the ability of the current coach, I'm fine with that (pretty sure I have the record on my side but it gives people the chance to make all kinds of excuses.)  Want to call me a racist, kiss my a**

The talent pool available to Beloit for basketball has not been narrower than that at Lawrence.  While a number of players the coach may have wanted in may not have been admitted there have also been a large number of players over the past nine years that have been a reach by Beloit's academic standards who have been let in (in some cases two or more times.)

Dolph Stanley-
I have to admit the same thought "the Roop" had crossed my mind as well. I hope it isn't so, but at least you have to admire him for addressing what he perceives in your posts over the last few years.

You and me both. But don't hold your breath. GC continues to surprise even us longtime jaded fans. Lots of depth and speed, plus our beloved 3 pt game. And Doug Ticus's long arms!

Blow off the HS game and go have some fun.   ;D

Jeff,

While I don't expect much from Roop in the way of logic or reasoning, I would expect more of you.  My arguments have been based soley on two FACTS that would be hard to argue with:

1)  Beloit basketball, once one of the premier programs in the MWC has become a perenial also ran in the past nine seasons

2)  While other schools of equal or higher educational standard manage to recruit full rosters (or in the case of that school in Iowa, two full rosters) Beloit has struggled to field 10-11 players on a regular basis and has had to rely on football players and students who happened to show up at school to complete a roster.

I blame the coach.  It doesn't matter what color he is, how tall he is, or even that he is a he (maybe Beloit should take that route, think of the publicity for hiring a woman for a mens D3 program).  If you or anyone else can produce one statement that would even seem to indicate that my reaction is based on race I will never post on this board again.  If not then we can agree to disagree about the coaches abilities but I resent the McCarthyism tactic of attempting to label me a racist rather than dealing with the facts.

Thanks, but just can't do it.

so keep us posted on what happens.

Or else!

Dolph i have to totally disagree with you on this point. If you look at who is the head of LU's addmissions, that person came from Beloit...back when BC could get players they wanted. Knapton could get any kid they wanted. Thats not the case with ANY sport at BC anymore. I get a chance to talk with many of the coaches and its the same story all the time with ALL the sports programs at BC. Admissions tells them to pick 1 of 4-5 players that they may want that admissons that are considered marginal. I have heard the new women's coahc saying the same things and he's just getting started recruiting. Recruiting is not just the Coaches responsiblitly.....addmissions takes a huge role and has a huge part of the responsiblity for getting the kids to come school....

So.....the head of admissoins leaves BC and goes to LU......LU becomes a power in the conference and BC struggles to fill its roster. All the coaches at BC are saying the same thing...so Dolph, I guess BC should just fire every coach and start fresh.....the whole bunch of can't recruit worth a damn.
