I post this purely for historical (not prognostical) purposes.

The last time Lawrence visited Monmouth, the Vikings were 8-0 in the MWC and No. 10 in the nation. Monmouth was 1-8 in the MWC. Two years later, LU is 8-0 and No. 3, while Monmouth is 1-7.

Two years ago, the Scots were an amazing 14-of-21 on treys (that's like being a perfect 21-of-21 on two-pointers) and beat LU in overtime. Beaird was 6-of-6 and the mighty Snydz was 6-of-8.

The Scots' only answer for Braier (32 points, 12 boards) was to make another three.

I can hang in at The Rest until about 12:30. We don't serve lunch, but Patricia and i can find a few places in town where they will still let us eat, so...

As far as getting a seat, the Womens game starts at 2:00 and i would recommend going for the whole game. If you are willing to go that early we can guarantee you a seat and the chance to meet some Grinnell celebs :D :D :D

This offer holds for anyone who wants to see the circus anytime including this weekend! Shoot, we'd even let Mr. "the Roop" back!

Schwannman-
You have our permission to wear the bajeezus out of Larry in that win. ;D

Cool, maybe I'll shoot for an eta between 11:30 and noon.  I want to sample the wares at the Rest in some fashion, unless you don't want my money.  I'm up for the whole GC experience, so let me know what's best and I'm in for it.  Who know when the wife will let me do another one of these trips without flipping out.

schwanman - Some interesting facts there.  I was actually thinking of posting something similar to what you said but you beat me to it.

Also, word on the street is that the mighty Snydz may be present at Glennie this weekend... :o

Mission Man ... Sorry, I've been playing tennis the last three hours. What was your question?

scottie

You are one sick nut SF86!    ;)
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

Guilty as charged!

Hey, you throw me a straight line like that, and I'm swinging from the heels!

The Roop

"The Rest" is easily confused with the bike shop next to it. The store fronts kind of run together and the "SR" logo is round like a bike wheel. I managed to find it the second time I parked in front of it. I'll know more when I go in and get my check tomorrow. The knee is much improved and I expect to be cleared to work after Mondays appointment, but tomorrow will be my last normal check for a while. Not sure I can squeeze 3 basketball trips out of it.

So in my absense Jeff, and since you've done it before anyway, you are authorized to make the Roopacinno the special of the day/weekend. The RoopacinnoHD may not be debuted unless I am there however.

The Roop

Those who are one with the New Roop Order, fear not. "The Roop" will calm your fears of conference expansion as "The Roop" has given it some thought.....................

Does the MWC need, or wish, to expand ? Or are we simply hearing overtures from teams in need of a new home. Need of a new home is certainly a noble cause and those schools should not be overlooked. However, what benefit would there be to the MWC for those teams to join ?? From a scheduling sense we have one too many teams already. We don't have a balanced schedule as it is and adding teams would only make it worse.

MSOE seems to have an interest in the MWC but many question their application because they don't have football. I say good, take them in. DIII only allows 10 games a year so one more football team in the conference would mean no non-conference game. The problem with adding one is you have no choice but to go back to divisional play. One division would have more teams than the other so teams would face each other but it would only be a conference game for one of them. That has happened before and I don't think anybody was happy about it. Plus you ultimately run into the situation where one division is stronger than the other, so what do you do about the MWC Tournament.

If we're gonna expand "The Roop" says lets add 5 teams to the conference. I think all you need to get two automatic bids is 14 teams anyway. That could create 3 five team divisions, play your division twice, everybody else once makes for an 18 game conference season. Probably need to back off the 23 game limit then. Good. Play 25 like the rest of DIII. Two automatic bids means one to the regular season champ and one to the tournament champ. It's up to the conference to decide though, but to make it fair, the regular season champ gets an NCAA bid and would be excluded from the conference tournament.

Since the regular season conference champion would have won a division, the remaining two division champions and two wild cards, determined by overall conference record, would make the MWC Tournament. Then of course with 15 teams you could even expand it. Lots of things to think about. I'm still not sure the MWC needs to expand at all. Play 25 games and we could have a double round robin schedule right now.

Sorry if certain teams have to give up an out of region trip every year to play this many games. Just schedule more non-conference games during the break. Holiday break games should all count next year so plan accordingly. Go to an out of region team and bring one in. Same amount of travel for you as to go to an out of region tournament. And you get one more home game.

WOW, WHAT A CONCEPT!  Why the heck don't they do that now and actually play everyone in their conference TWICE like normal people?!

Good to see someone else backing me up that NESCAC is NOT 'normal people'

To me, a conference is not a REAL conference unless they do a double round-robin (or if so big they have divisions, at least a double round-robin in their division and once against everyone else) - any other way is 'cheating'.  Teams don't play some other teams (e.g., Purdue football, not having to play either Michigan or Ohio State, and then proceeded to totally lay an egg anyway) or, like NESCAC bball, play teams ONLY at home or ONLY on the road.  Get a lucky draw, you SHOULD be in; no? better luck next year (sorry about your seniors).

Both home AND away against EVERYONE is the only fair test of a conference.
