GC 123 - MC 113

GC dominated the game, although MC kept it close. Strong 3s from MC. #32 is going to be a threat in the coming years. Congrats to Jack Kennedy for coming back from an injury early and nailing a string of 3s for GC. Excellent efforts from Guzman, Long, Ticus, Arsenault. And yes...Grotberg. He was in quite a bit. Not the entire game but pretty darn near.

Dominated?  A ten point GC win is more like a squeaker.

#32 has one more year left, unless he follows Grotberg into the pros.

Finally, you're supposed to use first names when you applaud all of the GC players.

Geesh, JeffP gives much better recaps.   :D

What say you, Mr. Coffee?

LU over Ripon, 73-70

Only caught the last 13 minutes of the radio broadcast online.  LU extended their lead to 8 and held it there for a little while, but RC would not go down.  Wish I could have driven up to RC instead of working late. :'(  Hopefully someone who saw the game in person can give a better recap.

LU remains undefeated.  I stand by my prediction that they'll stay that way going into the MWC tourney.

BETTER DEAD THAN RED!  ;D

I agree and bow at the great coffee god's feet - at least in regard to recaps.

What the score doesn't show is all of the different twists on the system - things that I honestly can't imagine being tried with LU or CC. Lots of passing, mixed up squads, and the afore mentioned starring role for JG.

But I'll leave the good stuff to Mr. Java himself.....   :)
Threes are better than twos....

I have to respectfully disagree with dc on this game. Grinnell dominated the first half but NOT the second. Jeff, my friend, MC had a 95-90 lead! Then, led by the likes of Toby Carlson and Jack Kennedy from behind the line, GC did at least a 13 pt run to seal it. Toby might have actually saved our butts with his timely shots.
Lots of foul trouble tonight. Mike Schmidt fouled out, Kieth and Doug with 4 fouls each with over 6 to go. Everyone had to play in control the last bit and they did. Grotberg had 37 pts with 27 in the first half. Jr had a fantastic game. Never missed a shot or a FT in this game. Long was everywhere on the court, Guzman hit some great treys that put MC completely off kilter. Once again, tired legs made the difference between two very evenly matched teams.
Grinnell has some real injury problems right now. Kennedy had to come back after what appeared to be a nasty ankle injury mid first half. Martinez did not play due to an injury to his mouth at the end of the game with Larry. And good old Paul Nordy is truly out for the season with surgery scheduled for spring break. With Pfalzer never even putting on a uniform this year due to a football injury, we are carrying a very short squad to run this type of ball. It almost looked like there were more kids outta uniform than in!
Price and Beard (sp?) are awsome. It is still hard to believe MC's record. They could very well spoil a few seasons yet this year.
Oh, and Grotberg played 34 minutes. ;D
I gotta finish my Iowa E file withholding by midnight, so I'll try to give youmore tomorrow.

if you want me to, anyway.

Any update on your travel plans for the weekend Captain Coffee. Many of "The Roops" readers have asked about it.

LU wins in a game it controls most of the way.  Every time Ripon made a run, even getting ahead a bucket around 50, LU had an answer.

They really let them play in the final 2 minutes, LU had an 8 point lead and Ripon was allowed to hacksteal twice and got it close.  Bit then Ryan Kroeger (frosh phenom--will not go pro next year, I asked his mom) drained some free throws and Bopper did too and it was over.  8)

Ripon sure has talented players, I always expect them to do better.  Schmitting is really good and Bo Johnson can sure throw it in from downtown.  I didn't think they rebounded very well but haven't seen the stats.  Hope we don't play them again this year.

Oafs were marginal again, especially late.  They definitely let everyone know they were there.  Too bad.   :'(  Great fans game, both sides were well represented.

LU ladies won as well, 1st place for them as well.

Alex could be a busy place in 3 weeks.

Interesting decision for the conference if the standings remain the same.

They could play them all at Alex--why not ?

2,4,6,8 on Saturday

While they could, I doubt they would do it. Something like this came up a long time ago and the womens tournament went to the runner up. Which in this year case wouldn'y be a bad idea as Ripon draws well.

I have to think this scenario has come up before.  Does anyone know when the last time a single school was regular season champ for both Men's and Women's b-ball and how this affected the tournaments? I'd look it up but I'm tired (and lazy).  ;)

I know the Beloit men and women won it in the same year and the womens game was moved to the runner up. That was before the tournament if I'm not mistaken. So if the MWC would move one game you know wouldn't think twice about moving a tournament.

Also worth nothing. There's no consolation game so there would only be two games on Saturday if one team did host both.

Ok, so i'm not as lazy as i thought... ::) It looks like the last time a MWC school won both the M's and W's regular season titles was '99-'00 when Lake Forest did it. It also happened in '94-'95 (Beloit) and '83-'84 (St. Norbert).

Can someone recall what happened in any of those cases? MWCSID. perhaps you could chime in with an "official" view.  :D
