in the past two days i have added grotberg to my POY list, and just today i commented on how impressive his line was vs. MC last night. I hvae never said Grotberg sucks (redlands is the only reference to sucking i have proclaimed) just said i wouldnt anoint him an automatic scoring phenom b/c he plays in the system.

Grotberg's stat line from last night is the most impressive thing i have seen from him all year. 34 mins. 7 helpers and only 4 to's. fantastic playing at that pace...

I noticed and appreciated the comment. I added the wink to my post to hopefully let you know I had the tongue planted firmly in cheek.

You're right that it is early and that patience is appropriate. I'm not sure I'd put him in the POY discussion, but I will be interested to see where he and others end up in the All MWC voting. He's one (of many) important reasons that GC is contending for the conference tournament, and with that comes in recognition.

You'll just have to have pity on me. I'm a sports fan and a former Math major. I just love those round numbers.

It is easy for Grotberg to be not stressed or hurried in "the system" because the purpose is to have no concience.  There is no way to tell how he would go with a team like where turnovers play a much larger factor....he has cut down his turnovers, just Grinnell's system allows for loose play.  I have not seen him play and you say he seems comfortable on the court....I believe that.  Obviously he is a special player and is taking on a very large load of his team.  I just think the system helps him with that.

If Beloit takes two this weekend then the Lawrence game next week is a freebie. Drop one and they'll need to win out to guarantee themselves a spot. Drop two and they'll need to win out and get help from the tie breaking gods. As long as Beloit makes it and Carroll doesn't host I'll be happy.

Sorry but Van Male Arena has to be the worst place to watch a game I've ever been to. You're so far away from the court there you need binoculars in the front row.

I'm not arguing with those points, just adding some clarification.  Grotberg looks far more poised and comforrtable than any of the other freshmen or sophomores, which is why I singled that out.  It's true the system helps bring kids into the college ranks with a little less stress.  However, and Jeff can correct me if I'm wrong.  It's probably not too often that Coach A has put this much on one freshman's shoulders.
