I just wanted to publicly thank Lawrence for sending Pat Juckem to Coe College. You prepared him well and his Kohawks are leading the Iowa Conference. Thanks again and GO PACKERS!

(To the tune of the camp song, If You're Happy and You Know It...)
If you can't go to college,
Go to Coe
If you can't go to college,
Go to Coe
If you're stupid, and you know it
And your ACT scores show it
If you can't go to college,
Go to Coe.

I know at 40+, I should be beyond that kind of thing, but we sang it with such gusto that it will always be a part of me.

what a terrible thing to bring up. I'm ashamed of my own connection to such a cheer and you should be too.

Line 6 (original version) should read:

If you haven't heard yet, Josh Hinz is going to be interviewed on ESPN's "Cold Pizza" this Thursday morning sometime between 9-11 a.m.  Tune in, or tape it like I will have to do!

Are you kidding me?  Has Cold Pizza dropped so low?  When will they learn that no matter what happens, d3 basketball is just crap and totally unworthy of publicity.  There's no audience out there for it.

Nice song guys, it reminds me of how we used to bring math and physics textbooks to MIT games and just yell equations and formulas at them the whole time.  They get visibly nervous when you intentionally say them incorrectly; very funny.

I think Carroll is a top ten team; I think they've proved it as best they can this year, but the voters are slow to come around and probably rightly so.  They do have some measure of integrity to uphold.  Even with 4 losses, Carroll is a shoe-in for a Pool C bid.  I can't see them not being ranked well regionally and the CCIW schools are all going to get beat one more time at least.

I don't believe for a second that Carroll is a lock for a national tourney bid. As Pat correctly said, they really don't have many impressive wins on their resume (Whitewater being the exception). A team going to the national tourney has to have some big, national wins to show or have some history. If Carroll loses to LU two more times (18th and MWC finals), I think they might be on the outside looking in. It would be a shame because they deserve it, but I don't think they are a "shoe in".

Honestly, the best chance for 2 MWC teams to get into the tourney would be for LU to win out the rest of the season, but lose the conference tourney. I think based on their performance this year and their recent history, LU is in much better shape to get a Pool C bid if they don't win the automatic bid.

It will depend on where they end up in the MW region rankings, but I think a four loss team without an AQ will be a rarity across the country.  There will be some upsets that get Pool C bids, but there won't be 18 teams without bids and a better resume than Carroll.

Not wanting to take anything away from CC season.  I just had to ask the question, if the tourney committee (whom probably has not seen CC play) had to choose between CC and a team like a North Central, who would they choose?  If the CCIW is not good enough to get three teams in, i think it will be tough for the MWC to get two w/o CC beatin LU at least once.  Like it has been eluded to numerous times, outside of CC record their most impressive statistic may be that they played the number 2 (dare i say #1 soon) team in the natoin to 3 close losses.  Will that be enough to get them in?

Also, I know the D3 ranking doesnt mean anything but who is to say CC is still ranked after another loss (or two) to LU.  they arent in the top ten, they are 22nd.  Yes CC is probably deserving of a pool C bid, but what proof do they have unless they beat LU once?
I could be wrong, but I doubt it....

Heck, if you listened to "The Roop," you might think that Beloit was going to end up in the top 25.   ;D

As for the Cold Pizza appearance, it doesn't surprise me.  I've only seen the show a couple of times, and it seems to be one of the dullest and slowest moving formats on morning television.  Now, if Hinz was going to be interviewed by Tony Danza, I'd be impressed!   :o

Isn't LU already a tourny lock??  So if anyone wins the conference tournament other than LU, that would mean 2 teams from the MWC would be in the NCAA tourny, right?

I guess we'll find out on Saturday, but I'd be surprised if CC loses 2 of their last three, so I think they end up with 3 losses at most. That being the case, they would seem a decent chance for a Pool C. Of course, we need to see what their quality of wins/losses works out to be. Larry's ranking doesn't come into play in the decision, just their winning percentage.

Along similar lines, with GC tracking to the third seed in the conference tournament, do either the Carroll or Larry fans have an opinion of having to play GC the first game of the tournament? Baring an upset, it would appear the final game should be CC v LU. Is there an advantage to not having to play GC's tempo the first game?

You do have to remember that they pick by the numbers.  At best, NCC will have 5 regional losses, at worst Carroll will have 4.  The morel ikely scenario, if they are both in pool C is NCC with 6 and Carroll with 4, their QOWI numbers probably will be even (with the slight edge to CC).  The bigger issue comes because they are in the same region, which means they will never be compared to each other.  It will only matter which one the committee feels is better.

When selecting pool C schools the committee looks at the best from each region against each other (as ranked by the regional committees).  So they are only looking at eight teams at a time.  When Wiitenberg gets picked, Calvin or Albion will move into that spot and they will choose again.  So once IWU or Augie is gone, then it coms down to who is the next likely MW region pick.  Given the info above, I say that has to be Carroll, unless the lose to someone besides Lawrence down the stretch.
