SF86 made a great point, BTW, when he said that he doubted LU made any significant changes to their game when they played Grinnell. Indeed, Grinnell was forced to play Larry's game all afternoon several weeks ago.

On the other hand, Carroll played Grinnell's game all afternoon but never gave an inch. Two completely different approaches to my faves with similar outcomes. Hoops Fan keeps saying that GC fans were more impressed with Carroll than Larry. My take is that Carroll is a more athletic team top to bottom than any team in recent memory. However, Larry is one very smart, well coached team that won't take the bait from anyone. My heart says Carroll but my head says Larry and Larry has already shown it once in the head-to-head. These are two extremely talented teams that are so close in terms of quality that It is hard to imagine anyone beating them til tourney time.

Now, everyone take notice of Jeffp's prognosticating abilities. I began the season at the top of the pick'em board but have taken the spiral ride in the porcelain bus since then. Having me on your side is not exactly a plus. :(

I just want to say as a GC fan who's watched Paul Nordland from the beginning - thanks. You've been great to watch as a player, and you've done wonderful things for the team. Plus there are a lot of Grinnell town kids who look up to you - literally and figuratively. Best of luck in your post-college career.   :)

I got that, I just didn't know the context on the site.

The Roop

It came on the radio halfway between Bonduel and Appleton Wednesday afternoon and has been stuck in my head ever since. I need someone to take it over from me.

Ok, I'm giving up.  I'll just drop it.  I still have no idea what you're talking about.

Nelson - I know you're not a basketball major, but are you a basketball minor? Or at least taking some basketball classes? Maybe an independant study? Keep up your astute, pro-LU analysis and i'll talk to Jill Beck about graduating you with a basketball honors project.

Oh and also shave those damn sideburns.

if you are Larry or the "northern pios" you want to play GC first.  First off with all the young players GC may be nervous in their first playoff game, rather than exuberant and very confident after a first round upset win.
Second, with the way that they shoot, if you gave them an opportunity to "warm up" (first game), they might be on fire in the second game and nobody wants to play a confident hot shooting system team.
third, the tourney is played on back 2 back days.  if u had to play the system the day after (it will be less than 24 hrs.) a very tough (seemingly) first round game you might not have the legs to keep up whether u are playing at home or not.

so there it is, 3 reasons you want to play the system on friday rather than saturday.
I could be wrong, but I doubt it....

Knoxs only conference losses this year are to Lawrence, Carroll and Beloit. Since they are done playing those teams can they catch Grinnell and take over the third spot ???

Check the margin of victory in the KC/GC game, Roop. 1 point. At home. With amusing refs.

I don't think GC will let KC slide through Darby with a win.....

I'm not sure if any of you knew about the game Hinz had against Grinnell,  ;)  but he made it into ESPN.COM's Forde Minutes:

BOX SCORE OF THE WEEK
Beloit 120, Grinnell 112 (37). As is often the case when freakish Grinnell is involved, the box is a wild distortion of common-sense basketball. For instance, Grinnell made 26 3s and lost, while Beloit didn't even attempt a 3 and won.

Then there was the line by Beloit's Josh Hinz (38). He went for a Chamberlainesque 50 points and 36 rebounds, outrebounding Grinnell all by himself by nine boards.
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

Knox only has two games left, GC has three, even a Knox win over GC still brings tie, which Knox would break.  A lot could be riding on that game.  It should be fun.

I think Jordis asked a question yesterday about how teams did in their next games after facing Grinnell. At the time I said that it didn't seem to make any difference. Since I have to work tomorrow and can't burn the candle at both ends tonight I did some research. And it still doesn't seem to make any difference. Teams that have faced Grinnell are 9-10 in their next games.
