Only conclussion I can arrive at is that somebody needs to take Beloits shovels away so they stop digging holes for themselves.

A rare karma point for you.  Not to say I smite everyone, but I really don't pay attention to those karma points, but you deserve one here!  :P

Thanks OS. Actually Beloit would have the tie breaker but I can't see Knox losing twice. Oh and by the way................ Beloit would need to beat Ripon and Carroll to force the tie. I'm thinking if they just give Ripon and Carroll 15 points at the start of the game that maybe Beloit will play hard for 40 minutes. They've had a couple double digit comebacks this year and I think they believe they can do it every time. Doesn't work like that unfortunately.

PLEASE STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS BEFORE. ANOTHER TALENTED BELOIT TEAM FALLS SHORT OF THE PLAYOFFS. The seasons not over yet, but it basically is.  Anyone who was at the game please let us know what happened. 17 turnovers seemed costly, but the stats were pretty even in other catergories. How is J Hinz the only BC player to take more than 6 shots. 6-8 with CARROLL coming in Wednesday. All the individual records for Hinz, BUT NO CONFERENCE TOURNEY APPEARANCES. If he had just 1 conference title, his career would look much better. Losing hasn't entirely been Hinz's fault. 32 wins in the Hinz, towns era. unfortunate for 2 quality guys

Stop.  I have heard it before.  Just back from a trip overseas but see that nothing has changed.

As has been the trend of late, most of the turnovers occured at the worst possible times. Get a little run going and then get careless with the ball. Free throw shooting was another issue, AGAIN. Not down the stretch necessarily but by then it didn't really matter, they missed way too many before that. They were in the bonus and double bonus much of the second half and gave those opportunities right back by not connecting. 3 point shooting......................... I can't remember the last time they've had anyone make more than one 3 in a game. Probably @Lake Forest when I believe they had two people make more than one.

After the "mailed in" performance @Ripon I was actually optimistic about the rest of the season. They were all upset with themselves in the closing minutes of that one and I knew they would step up in the future. Today, they simply didn't seem upset enough. Unfortunately it's out of their hands now even if they do win out.

It seems that Beloit doesn't want the 4th spot, its obvious and they played that way today.  Missed free-throws cost us another one.  I just can't fathom the thought of missing the easiest shot in the game!  We did it over and over this season.  Every possession & freethrow from the tip is so important, but evidently these very smart kids can't figure that one out!  They played with no heart, and when you pack it up YOUR DONE!  Kudos to norbies for out hustling and shooting BC, when they had nothing to play for only pride.

So I have a quick question concerning the MWC tie-breaking rules. Obviously, if two teams have the same records, you first look at head-to-head records, then common opponents within the MWC. But say Carroll beats Lawrence this Wednesday and they go on to have the same conference record -- am I understanding this correctly that, since they are 1-1 against each other and both undefeated against the rest of the league, it goes straight to a coin flip?

It seems kind of silly to me that there are two fairly legitimate tie-breakers that could be used, at least in this specific case. First of all, Lawrence would have a better overall record. I can't believe the MWC doesn't take that into consideration before a coin flip. Secondly, I think Carroll and Lawrence have one common non-coference opponent, UW-Oshkosh, whom Lawrence beat and Carroll did not. I'm not mentioning this so that I can boo-hoo if Lawrence loses to Carroll and Carroll ends up hosting the tournament (I'll do that privately) but it seems very reasonable, if not logical, to take these two issues into consideration.

More accurate/important than point differential, at any rate...

I agree.  That sounds like the old dunkel ratings system the NAIA had (not sure if they still use that) back when Stevens Point was in the NAIA.  I remember a specific game when we played Eau Claire and the coach (the legendary Ken Anderson) had his players sit on the ball and lose to Point because he knew Point lost to them by a larger margin and didn't want to give Point the chance to score more and widen their margin of victory.

OK, Now I can relax a bit! Nice win for the Pioneers in a close match!

Get ready Knox, you are in OUR house next and you will be without the 3 extra starters you had several weeks ago.

Grudge match!

mnelson,

Don't worry, should Carroll host the tournament I'll do your public boo hooing for you. All I can say for now is that I'm not done thinking of reasons why I dislike Van Male.

If the tie-breaker is for conference reasons then only CONFERENCE results should be used.  There are other tie-breakers that could have been made that use only conference results/stats.  You could definitely use something like combined score of the 2 games that the teams split.  Also, the CCIW has something like record in last 9 or 10 games or something like that.

-Losses by Beloit and Ripon pretty much wrap up playoff spots for both Knox and Grinnell.
The MWC site has Grinnell marked as wrapping up a spot in the tournament. Congrats to a team that was projected to finish 7th at the beginning of the season!

Wait a second....this is the same team that was picked from the beginning of the season by almost everyone to be at or near the bottom of the league. Yes it has been disapointing to see what has happened the last couple of games, and that it looks like they missed out on a great chance to make the tourny, however, here is a bottom of the league pick still in the hunt for a playoff spot coming into the last week of the season. So lets see.....picked 8th in coaches poll...most had them picked 10th to 8th and there still hanging around....hmmm ...seems theyve done better than expected.

It does appear that Towns, Hendry and Skelton have quit on their team. Hinz is still battling hard and the freshman are trying (Horton needs to stay out of foul trouble)....but when you're core senior leaders are playing like it doesnt matter...theres not a lot that coaches or Hinz or anyone can do.

BTW Dolph, its a shame u missed really fun game vs. Grinell at home.

The question is: why do you think that Towns, Skelton and Hendry have quit on their team????   I know all three and know for a fact, they are not quitters.  They are lacking confidence and their bodies ache.  A Norbie parent said yesterday, that they are only practicing 1 hr/day and they have vastly improved, since taking that approach.  I think we are seeing a big case of burnout.  The BC kids are tired and hurting.  That's why we were outhustled yesterday, and our shots were short.  I don't know how other teams handle practices, but something is wrong when our players run out of gas halfway through the game.  I feel terrible that Hinz, Towns and Skelton won't get into the playoffs, they have worked their butts off for this team!!!!

Went to the Carroll game at Ripon yesterday with wallace and a couple other football buddies and it was close the whole game like I thought it would be. It was another horrible performance by the mwc refs, it's sad sometimes to see these refs try and take over the game and not let the kids play. Hopefully there will be good crew this wed nite in waukesha. I don't think words can describe how pumped I am about wed nite Carroll is on a roll and LU has to come to Van Male the hardest place to play in the confernce, and it will be rockin!! Look for me Wallace, falco to be in the front row going crazy!!!!!

Goo Pioneerssss!!!!!
