You know Keven Bradley is a nice young man;  Point probably could have used him this year.

Nothing annoys me more than having some fairweather fan of a team that has been really good the last few years come in and post crap like this.

I have never posted anything about Keven Bradley and I have never said anything about him, good or bad.  I'm glad that he's happy at Lawrence.

I think this is the reason why I have a dislike for Lawrence.  The fact of the matter is, I really like Lawrence's team.  Braier is a stud and Tharp seems like a really good coach.  I enjoy watching them.  But,  some Larry U posters really strike a nerve with me because they just flap their mouths about Larwrence being God's gift to basketball.  Where you were guys a few years ago when they weren't that good and Ripon was winning?  All of a sudden we've got posters with less than 25 posts coming in here and claiming they've been long-time fans.  What a joke (my apologies to the real Lawrence posters).

That is the 2nd article that I've read where Stevens Point seems to be the center of their attention.  I find that real humorous.  Apparently the Pointers are the Evil Empire now, but that's just fine with me.  Don't forget you have a game to play on Saturday!  If you guys want to be more worried about how Point treated you in the past than to concentrate on the current season, well, good luck with that. 

As I've said before, I respect such posters as jeffp (though we always don't agree!), Old Fighting Scot and other regular posters who aren't afraid to post when their team isn't doing well. 

I sure hope I count as a "real LU poster"!    I'm going to stick my neck (and positive karma) out there and agree with OS on this one.  I don't think LU posters should have to be contrite all the time or mellow their support...heck, you don't even have to post that much! (some people aren't as into posting as many of us on the board...doesn't mean you can't join in!)  But if you're a fan of the current top dog, you better do more than just RA RA RA and twist the tail of other posters if you don't want to rank up there with the Bulls "fan" I met last weekend who claimed he wasn't fairwhether for giving up on them after Jordan left (his reasoning? "I was a fan the first year they won a title")...or Yankees fans...the ones who don't live in NYC and who don't know jack about the roster past Jeter and A-Rod but who love wearing the hat and talking about why its the greatest team in sports history...I hate those guys!

That longwinded ramble aside...most LU fans aren't like that.  In fact, I know lots of normal, reasonable, LU fans who read the board all the time...they just don't post!

I agree with you for the most part, especially about some LU fans on this board outstepping their bounds. I also thank you for mentioning that there are several LU posters on this board who seem to have more credit than others. However, when a school like LU whose athletics are an afterthought almost universally (being associate sports editor of the Lawrentian reminds me of this every week) finally does something in the sports world, can't you expect this kind of response? While I often cringe at some of the posts on this board regarding LU Basketball's rise to the invincibility some see for it, I also feel a great deal of pride that my school's team is responsible for these sort of feelings in others. I think it's wonderful for the University, for Appleton, and most importantly for the fans that we're where we are right now, and I for one hope that more new posters join us with the happiness that only a sports fan who's team is winning can understand. If you mean to assert yourself as the voice of reason on the MWC board, remember that those of us who have been here for awhile are reading the same posts that you are...and I for one am more excited than annoyed at the exuberance which comes from such success. If LU basketball makes people happy - even past the point of rationality - then I can't find any reason in the world to try to stifle that. 

As to your second point (no pun intended) about UWSP being Lawrence's "Evil Empire," well, what do you expect? Your team knocked us out of the tournament two years in a row! Last years game was simply miserable for LU's fans, and the year before may have been the most heartbreaking loss I have ever experienced. Take it as a compliment that we're regarding your team in such a way, and rest on the two rings you already have.

I don't mean to attack you personally - your unbaised but knowledgable voice on this board have been very well taken ever since I joined up, and i'm sure it will be when I am long gone from LU and the Vikings are past their glory days. We all respect you and your basketball opinions. Let LU fans have their fun.

I like the Roop's solution.  After all, I've already recognized you as the founder and president of the "MWC deserves respect" club.  I have to say...its a sad day when those who were part of what I will term the "kimchee and spam" era on the MWC board are lumped in with the sad masses of CCIW fans who have not seen the light and the truth that is the MWC.  Ok, so that was way overboard and totally in jest...in any case, I would take a bullet you any day Madame President.

I'm with Old School... I don't really understand the backlash at Stevens Point from the (or, more accurately SOME of the) Lawrence faithful.  

Two years ago, LU played just about as well as they possibly could, and they were beaten by a very, very good Stevens Point club.  Last year, they had a less than desirable draw (travelling to St. Peter, MN on Thursday and then travelling to play a rested, ready Point team).  Why would LU fans keep dwelling on this?  It really borders on taking away from what this year's club has done, and is poised to do this year.  Focus on your accomplishments and spend your effort supporting your team.  You'll have a better conscience and you'll be doing something worthwhile!

Keven is a great guy.  I played with him for three years at UWSP.  He decided the best thing for him was to make a move two years ago.  And you know what?  If that's what was best for him, than that's what was best for the SP program as well.  I transferred 5 years ago TO the Point program and I know what it's like to not be gelling with a team... it's hard, personally, and it really can be a detriment to the team.  Keven made the right move if he was feeling this way, and I really hope that both he and the Lawrence program continue to do well.
