April,

I'll be in your cabinet so long as its called a "Ministry" and not a "Department"

MWC,

I think you're taking the word "familiar" too seriously.  I can assure you that all the voters are as familiar as anyone not having seen the teams in person, which is virtually impossible for anyone to do.  Lawrence is getting plenty of props.  I dare say that even if Amherst or Wooster had run the table, there may still be people voting for Hope.  It's just the fact of life.  However, there is one way for Lawrence to remedy the situation, just win five more games.  I'm banking my pick'em on them doing it.

Dren~

I would also love to see those two teams play, but it wouldn't be to settle the debate.

I'm not debating whose better, you just said when Hope was 26-0 they were what...the UNANIMOUS #1.  I'll I'm saying is how can you be undefeated compared to two losses and not be the unanimous #1

I personally don't care if it was Lawrence, Illinois Weslayen, UW-Whitewater, or Buena Vista who was undefeated...I'd still like to know how ANY TEAM (unless you are out east :) or just SJF) can go undefeated and not be a unanimous #1.

If Lawrence played Albion and Calvin three times, winning two from each, I'd be impressed with that too.  It's hard for me to make too many sound arguments, because I do believe Lawrence is #1.  I just don't think their schedule and results this year lead to them as a unanimous, unquestioned #1.  They are getting the #1 from a lot of voters, but I think there is justification in a few voters putting them #2.

If I had not seen Lawrence in person and seen how well they play together, how well coached they are and how deep the talent goes, I would not think they were better than Hope.  For that reason, some people who haven't seen them in person voting them #2 makes sense to me.

It's also why I want to see a Lawrence-Hope final.

I guess you can also attribute it to people who don't understand how good the MWC is, which is really the base issue.  A lot of people haven't seen the MWC in the last five years and might equate Larry's year to Fisher's from last season.  That might be the case for some voters, but regardless, there are other reasons not to vote them #1.

I think your motive is right.  It makes no sense to someone who has seen them play, but its not a travesty for one or three voters not to agree.

Thought you all might want to see Massey's final top five:

1     Lawrence              24   0
2     Hope                     26   2
3     Wittenberg            25   3
4     Carroll WI              21   4
5     Wooster                25   3

UGH

Look Hope might just be better....I'm not arguing whether or not they are....it's the principle of a team going undefeated during the regular season...a team with a very good recent history of NCAA play, with an All-American (senior led team), which DESERVES everyones votes until they lose....I guarentee you any team from the midwest that goes undefeated is very deserving of a unanimous decision.

Ultimately, this is a silly argument...you vote for who you think is the number one team and no one's going to change your opinion.  Just seems crazy to think that someone would vote for a team with two losses (with a 20 point loss mixed in there) to a team with ZERO losses, especially when you aren't "familiar" with both teams.

Hoops Fan - I'm glad you agree with Pat

I hate to say it, but didn't Lawrence beat the #4 team on that list 3 times!?!?!?!

I don't care, so long as there's no pressure to do anything; I'm kinda lazy.  Maybe Agriculture.
