The Roop

JeffP,

Don't forget the 35 Grinnell phone books you also had stacked on the first row of bleachers at New Darby. And I think you were on the second row anyway.  :D

The Roop

I've learned a few things in the last 48 hours and that is life is full of risks. Getting up in the morning, walking across the street or sticking your face in a fan. To that I would like to add, ordering/requesting a coffee mug from Iowa.  :D  ;D

FYI-
Grinnell phone books are 1/8" thick and it was NOT the second row.

It's in the mail.       yeah, that's it, it's in the mail!

I thought that only worked with checks - coffee mugs, too? ;)

The Roop

Ah, the famous checks in the mail promise.................. I fail that one every time. Checks in the mail baby, I won't ___ __ ____ _____ because I always do. Nor do I feel bad about it afterwards. Hey, play with fire eventually you will get burned. And so on and so forth.

The math has been done. Even with 35 Grinnell phone books you still could not look me eye to eye. So my "second row of the bleachers" theory still holds.  :D

You know, as the NRO lore grows and grows, The Roop is becoming a mythic figure not unlike the famous SNL hero "Bill Brasky."  It would be very appropriate for us to come up with "sightings" of The Roop.

April, great idea to keep the boards alive: re-post something that struck your fancy from months ago! ;D  I love the concept!

I was just looking at my old posts to try to figure out if some posts I didn't particularly want to stay up (Greg will know which ones) got deleted when Pat deleted a few boards. They did get deleted, and all is lovely, even if I did have a ton of posts on that board and it sent me waaay back in the impossible race to catch you and hoops fan (etc).  :P

Anyhows, I saw that post, and I started laughing my head off again... it's still so funny!  :D

On a more related note, I'm still sad I never got to see the old darby... In my old age I'm starting to enjoy the old gyms with character a while lot more than the shiny cookie cutter ones.  :-\

I still love mine Jeff, and use them alot. It's funny, cause they are like, the precious guarded cups of mine... I never stick them in the dishwasher, from fear that the paint will eventually wear off which would remind me of my good buddy in Iowa whom I've never gotten to meet despite all my wanderings across the nation and all my "hey, I might be passing through Iowa for this reason..." comments.  :-[

Last week I was at a training for work and using the travel mug, and a girl was like... "Grinnell, Iowa"? And since she was a former basketball player, I responded with this long dissertation of DIII information, and all about the Grinnell's system. She responded with, interesting! And did you know that in Iowa, the girls used to play defense or offense only, with five players on each side of the court? And I said, oh gosh! I know! Weird huh? Instant friendship. :) :D

Old School-
Dammit! And I thought I had found someone to look up to....besides Mr "the roop". ;D :D ;D

Hoops Fan- It was the FIRST ROW, dangit!...of course, the rise is literally 20 inches-but you knew that.

DHF- Old Darby (otherwise known with derision throughout the conference as "the hangar") was a real gem. A lot of great memories went down with that building.

BTW- 6 on 6 girls basketball died years ago, but is being revived by former players who have formed several leagues in the state. It was NOT 5 on a side though. It was a half court game with 3 on defense and 3 on offense in each half court. You could not cross center court but had to throw the ball to a teammate in the other half. You could only dribble 3 times before you passed as well. Not much movement, but man, were there ever some great shooters on those teams!

Sightings of "The Roop"................. One may only need to look as far as the UW-Marathon County Campus this fall. Finances are looking better and it may allow "The Roop" to actually get sum kolledge lernin dun. Wonder how many credits I need to carry to play JC hoops ??? Never went to college before so I still have all my eligibility. Trust me I'd make the line up, UW-MC is only about as good as Maranathas JV.

8'2"................. No, that would be Sam Johnson.

Great idea OS. That will take this crew from April through September, and then no one will need to spend too much time getting into D3Hoops shape. (What exactly is the shape of someone who spends most of the winter months typing at a key board?)  ;)

If I join this league, do I, as a Systemfan, have to draft nothing but players who have speed and hit a lot of triples?  ???

I feel like I'm on the Dan Patrick Show here...This is Andy from Ohio, 6', 217...

"The Roop once ran afoul of a Grizzly Bear while rescuing a group of Girl Scouts lost in the woods.  At first, he killed the bear with his bare hands, but then, realizing the terrible effect this turn of events might have on a fragile eco-system, carried the bear on his back to a nearby veterinary clinic, where he, himself performed the life-saving operation.  Once back in the woods, the ungrateful Grizzly again became a problem, so this time The Roop subdued the bear into a state of awed stupor by physically proving a logical fallacy."

Not bad HF, not bad at all...

I heard the story how the "The Roop" once mentored a young boxer from Louisville, Ky. He taught this young man all of the finer points of boxing including a special bit of footwork that he called "The Roop-a-dupe". While the young boxer was very adept at learning the footwork, he wasn't a particularly good listener. He used the special footwork in a title fight later in his career, and when he was asked what is was called, he replied "The Rope-a-dope".

And now you know...the (Saints) Rest of the story.

;D
