There is a Waffle House in Michigan along I-94, about 45 minutes from the Indiana border.  I have passed it many times on my way from Detroit to visit the folks in Chicagoland.  Apparently, according to the link, they have a nice bathroom, at least for the ladies.  :o

Ahh White Castle...

I hold my company's record for the quickest 20 white castle sliders consumed.....

12 minutes and 36 seconds.  God did it hurt, but at least I got 20 bucks out of the deal.

good times...

Matblake,

I dunno what I'm more frightened about... the fact that this website, devoted to a bathroom exists, or that you took the time to find it...  ?

I'm holding fast onto the notion that you have a shared computer, and it's on your wife/girlfriend/mother's favorite sites list, and not your own!

So is St. Norbert going to hire a coach before the season starts?

The Chronicle of Higher Education has a 3 page article on Grinnell this week, in the context of the growing divide between 'rich' and 'poor' colleges (and students).  By endowment, Grinnell is now the wealthiest liberal arts college in the nation.  Overall, in addition to discussing the situation in general, about 5-6 pp. are contrasting the ramifications for Grinnell (endowment, c. $1.4 billion) vs. Clarke (also in Iowa, endowment, c. $16 million).  Good read.

We return you now to your regularly scheduled Waffle House/White Castle programming. ;)

Poor grinnell.  $1.4B to spend and no white castle or waffle house within driving distance.  I feel badly for the locals.

Nice segue!  I 'applaud' you.

[But, hey, with that endowment they could probably buy both Waffle House AND White Castle - the companies, not a franchise. ;D]

Quote from: systemfan86 on April 06, 2006, 08:21:56 AMMr. Sager, you have apparently never made the overnight drive to Florida because that's when you eat at Waffle House!

Oh, I've made that overnight drive, all right ... but, like Knightstalker, I haven't traveled south via ground transportation since the Stuckey's/HoJo era.

The only Waffle Houses in Illinois, according to www.wafflehouse.com, are in Collinsville and Granite City ... which might as well be the Deep South for as far as they are from Chicago. They're both St. Louis suburbs. The closest Waffle House to me is down in Indianapolis, and I don't much fancy the idea of going all the way to Naptown just to get some waffles and pork gravy.

I'm always a bit intrigued by restaurant chains I've never experienced. Culver's, f'rinstance; I've watched their ads during Cubs games for years, but I've never been in one. There aren't any in the city; the nearest one is in Franklin Park out by O'Hare Airport, and there's no direct route there. By car that Culver's is over 16 miles from my domicile.

My favorite chain of Southern origin isn't Krispy Kreme, which seems to be everyone else's choice. It's Ritter's, a chain of frozen custard stands. They're mostly in the Deep South, but there's now a number of them in Indiana and Michigan as well, including a couple near my sister's house in northern Indiana. As ice cream or ice-creamesque dessert concoctions go, Ritter's rocks my world.

I sincerely apologize for bringing up the Waffle House a week or so ago.  ;)

Wow, GS, I'm here in SW Ohio and we have added both Culvers and Ritter's establishments to the neighborhood in the last 18 months. My wife seems partial to Culvers, but I'm wit'cha on Ritters. It is, as you noted, frozen custard, not ice cream. They have a write up about it in the stores. I think I've convinced my three sons that Ritter's is the appropriate choice.

I checked the Waffle House web site, and as I expected, I'm well covered here. I noticed that the store location list includes a description of which Interstate the location is near. I feel confirmed.

Nut, my mistake. I presumed that anyone who had the stomach strength to have the opinion that mini corn dogs were superior to sliders HAD to be sub-30. I watch my 13-year-old eat and think "There was a time when I could do that..."

Hey, with an endowment like that, you think Grinnell would have had a McDonalds when I was there! We had to drive 16 miles to Newton to get an Egg McMuffin.

In fact, if it continues much longer, I apologize regardless of board!

It won't continue much longer. If I have to, I'll be using my delete button.

This, but not the porn stuff on the liberty league board? Interesting. Does that mean you've gotten more complaints, or this topic just bothers you more?

This is no surprise as we all know Pat has a bias against the MWC. ;)

Also of note:

AM - Grinnell does now have a McDonalds, I think it appeared at about the time they passed the 1 billion mark...

And incase anyone is trying to make a deal, its gonna take a lot of Waffle House and White Castle coffee mugs for me to even consider trading my Saints Rest One...  on second thought don't even bother offering.

Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan)

I think I really missed out not picking up a coffee mug when I was there.  It seems like everybody has one.

Oh well, next trip.  When does the GC schedule come out so I can start planning?

PointSpecial,
Found the bathroom site when doing a search for the Waffle House that I had seen in Michigan.  Couldn't remember if it was in MI or Indiana.  On google, the bathroom site was the first hit that made reference to the michigan location.  Thought the bathroom thing made it even funnier.

GS, Ritter's is a great place.  However, none of the high school kids that work at the one by me know the difference between Ice Cream and Frozen Custard.  They had to look at the brochure systemfan mentioned.
