Quote from: matblake on April 07, 2006, 10:47:38 AMGS, Ritter's is a great place.  However, none of the high school kids that work at the one by me know the difference between Ice Cream and Frozen Custard.  They had to look at the brochure systemfan mentioned.

Look at it this way: At least the high-school kids in your town are able to read the brochure. Sounds like your town is on the leading edge in terms of the future American workforce.

The Roop

Everything is made to order and you get a number, then they bring it out to you. So it tastes like Walleye would any place else. The ribs are good too.

When they come up with an amount of money that I can't imagine, then we'll talk.

An amount of money that you can't imagine... so would that be, like eleventeen dollars?  Or threve?  Or how about lucky number slevin? (which looks like a pretty good movie, I might add).

No, it would be more along the lines of an amount that I can't comprehend. Much like the chances of Pat Cummings showing up at the Wooden Nickel or JeffP actually sending the mug I was promised months ago.  :D  ;D  :D  ;D

Secondly. Do LU fans chant "Carroll's a guys name" at the women's games ???

Women's Head Basketball Coach at Randolph-Macon...

Carroll LaHaye  ;)

Yet another case of women stealing a perfectly fine boy's name and giving it to a girl.

(See also: actress Michael Learned, model James King, actress Cameron Diaz, etc.)
I had a history teacher in ninth grade and his name was Lynn, there was another teacher there whose name was Carroll, and let's not forget Carroll O'Connor, former Oiler and Packer QB Lynn Dickey.  Then there is Marion Michael Morrison the manliest guy with a girls name ever.

And of course my favorite name of all time, NASCAR driver Dick Trickle.

I thought this HAD to be a belated April Fool, but I looked in up and, by golly, it's for real!  Unfortunately, in 297 starts over 28 years, he never won.

Maybe he had to make too many pit stops. ::)

I hear from the grapevine that Lawrence has landed a big guy from Dapuke Iowa, one they were going after for a long time.  Secondly, from a worker at UWGB Lawrence is in negotions to play the phoenix in an exhibition game next year.  That's all i got for now

Marion actually used to be a boy's name; Marian with an 'a' was the girl's version. Sorta like "Francis" and "Frances". Of course, "Marion" was doomed from the start to be lost to the fairer sex, given the first two syllables of the name. I don't know if the name started going feminine before or after John Wayne came along, but I'm guessing that it was probably considered something less than butch even when he was a kid.

Another good example is "Rene" and "Renee" -- the former has the masculine ending in French (as in "fiance") and the latter has the feminine ending (as in "fiancee"). Lots of hockey players have been named "Rene", including one of my favorites when I was a kid (Rene Robert, who with Gilbert Perreault and Richard Martin formed the "French Connection" line of the Buffalo Sabres of the 1970s). Of course, that name's been ruined by a famous actress (Rene Russo) as well.

The first Carroll I remember wasn't Carroll O'Connor; it was Carroll Dale, one of the wide receivers of the Lombardi Packers of the 1960s.

We had an extremely corrupt govenor in DC by the name of Marion. The name is still around I guess.

One summer in Michigan I went canoeing with a guy named Cameron. I though it was a girls name when I met him... it was hard to think of him a being girly since he played LB in college, but still, it was funny.

Since we are mentioning girl/guy spellings of the same name, add Loran to the list. I had a friend at wheaton (who also played football... maybe they feel like they have something to prove?) by that name.

And Greg, Rene just reminds me of Star Trek. :D

Karma to PS for sucessfully making up numbers. :D

And Roop, how dare you bring up something vaguely basketball related! :P

Ah, how could I forget the esteemed former mayor of our nation's capital, Marion "Crack Pipe" Barry?

Cameron's a pretty common name for younger males, actually. And it's got a long history as a boy's name, going at least as far back as '50s and '60s actor Cameron Mitchell. I think that the talent-deprived star of The Mask and There's Something About Mary is the only female Cameron around.

I've never heard of that name. I've heard of Loren, which is indeed a boy's name and has the unfortunate coincidence of being a homonym with a completely unrelated girl's name, "Lauren".

Rene Auberjonois may be better known to you as Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or to others as Clayton Endicott III from Benson (and my nieces are definitely more apt to recognize his voice as being that of Chef Louie from The Little Mermaid), but to me he'll always be the original Father Mulcahy from the movie version of M*A*S*H.

"Is this 'The Bickersons'? I love them!"

"Who?"

"'The Battling Bickersons' ... oh .... oh. Uh, I forgot I have to ..."

(Rene Auberjonois is also an alumnus of a D3 school, Carnegie Mellon.)

I think tennis player Dr. Renee Richards may have been the one who really did the male version of the name in for semi-obvious reasons...

One other name to bring up is Courtney. I always thought of it as a feminine name but it is used as a masculine one as well. And has anyone noticed that the ladies are taking over Sean as a name?

How about Peyton Manning....I had a girl friend in HS named Peyton.....

I'm not sure I've ever heard a straight male say anything negative about Cameron Diaz; it's quite astounding.  Although, as I write this I must admit that it was the first time I've even thought to analyze her acting ability.

I agree.  I love the MASH movie.  It's just amazing that they were able to turn a great movie into a great tv series.  What are the odds of that happening?  I also love Aberjonois on "Boston Legal" the new show with Bill Shatner and Candace Bergen.  Besides being set in the greatest city on earth, its just hilarious, well worth the watch.
