Hey "the roop",

i talked to a cpl of the players this week, not sure who the recruits are that went to the wiac. i was told of a couple that had told them it was between beloit and 1 other school. they lost a good one to elmhurst, and 2 to augustana.  i was told told they got a 6'8' kid from wisconsin. not sure how much help he'll be his first yr. but they think he'll be a really good one down the road. they also got a few kids from illinois. one they speak very highly of. 6'4' kid from wheeling. they also said they have a total of 7 new players coming in. the players seem pretty excited about this upcoming season. they told me many of them have been playing in leagues and tourny's all summer.

it will be interesting to see how they fill the void left by Hinz. they guys think they may actually be better cause teams wont be able to focus on one star. it will be an interesting year.

Points are always easy to replace but replacing experience can be difficult. Nice to have 7 coming in. Sounds like two good recruiting years in a row.

the nice thing about this years squad is that they started started 2 freshman last yr and the 2 returning seniors have started since they were freshman. who ever the 5th starter will be will have been a significant contributor last yr off the bench. they also have one of the transfers, that was injured all last yr,  back as well. he should help alot. i think 2 or 3 of the new players should be able to contribute this yr. i know hopes are always high before the season starts but they players seem to have alot more excitement about this upcoming yr than in the past. we'll see what happens

The Roop

Glad to hear that Puls will play this year. Early predictions from the Orfordville Journal last year said he may never play again. Could be the 5th starter right there. Andy and CJ could rotate in the middle after each foul and that should be one of the top line ups in the conference.

one of the best lineups in the conference?  We are talking about Beloit college here right?

Points are always easy to replace...

A lineup that starts Fieck, Hendry, Horton and Dowden will certainly be among the best on paper in the conference.  If they can find a 2 guard to insert in the lineup who can hit the open jumpers it gets even stronger.

Take a look at Beloits lineups for the past 6-7 years.  Other than Youngbloods first two years it has never been about lack of talent in the starting five.  Depth, Chemistry, Scheme, and a number of other factors may be to blame but Beloit has consistently had 4-5 players on their squad who could match up with the best 4-5 of almost any other team in the MWC.  Beloit has consistently beaten some of the top finishers in the conference each year only to lose to many of the weaker clubs.

Bottom line IMO, having one of the best linueps does nothing to guarantee that this team will be one of the top finishers if history is any indication.

PointSpecial,

1000 pardons............. Perhaps I should have said that scoring, rather than points, are easier to replace than experience. LOL.

Dolph,

Yes, I agree. You're as right as you always think you are. Fire Youngblood now. If they don't, SkyNet will take over and Terminators will be running around everywhere tomorrow.

Well, Scottie is frustrated...  It seems like this upgraded site has fouled up all of my settings and I might have to start over.

Pat, How in the heck am I supposed to remember my password from 800 posts ago?  Can you email me with any indications on how I can get my old account back please?  Thanks.

I heard that JoJo Depagter, asst at Lawrence, qualified for the  World Poker finals but that he didn't go because he wasn't sure the NCAA wouldn't sanction him or LU for this.

is this true....if so the NCAA should be ashamed.  he could have won 11M.

You mean the World Series of Poker Main Event?  What do you mean "he qualified"?  Did he go up to Oneida and win a satellite tourney?  If he did that, that would be no different than going to the WSOP itself, IMO.
